  1. What is the music? Have been trying to figure it out
  2. got to visit the Vandegrift vs. Cedar Park game last week and catch both bands. Vandegrift's got a whole new groove and swagger building off last year. Only marched the opener. Large, sweeping, well-written drill already being performed so well. Intense and difficult music choices (didn't recognize what they were). Big accel at the end of the closer. Remniscient of early 2000s shows (Lassiter vibes, almost, in terms of sheer power potential), yet extremely modern. Really excited to see where this goes. Cedar Park. I don't know if they got new uniforms again or a new drill writer but it almost looked as if Broken Arrow was on the field. Quite a bit of show fielded! As always, look stellar marching so early on. Classic-meets-modern vibe, but they're continuing to up their GE game. Great design. Anyways, brief notes from what I remember last week. Should be a great year for both, as always.
  3. I know this discussion always gets brought up each honor band cycle, but does anyone happen to have a stat on the number of TMEA Honor Band winners who go on to being UIL Marching champions in the same year? If memory serves right, Marcus did this 2 cycles ago. 2014 UIL 5A champions and the 2015 TMEA Honor Band Additionally, congrats to the Vandegrift program on winning this title. Have not listened to the recordings, but have heard amazing things. What a program they've got going down there in Austin!
  4. Any commentary on individual recordings?
  5. darn. I’m blurring years together... thank you lol
  6. Hebron absence? Did they not submit? Or just didn’t advance? Marcus was the previous winner, correct?
  7. when will we know results?
  8. I'm bored and want to be bold. Let's rile some people up, baby! -Marcus is exiled from medaling after their historic 10-year run -Top 3 is compromised of Vandegrift, Hebron, CTJ -In terms of music performance, Vandegrift ascends into the ranks of Hebron to form a co-league of their own (have you seen that pre-season video of Vandy? jesus.) -CTJ's 2017 success, accredited to their pre-season learning of the show, ushers in a return to a trend of more difficult/complex shows that are not only able to do well at both BOA and UIL, but ARE executed incredibly well (finally laying to rest for good the enduring 'UIL vs. BOA show!!!!!' gripes & grievances*) -No new finalists, although former finalists who have recently missed it will return -I attempt to fill in the hole produced by the absence of Rubisco, but miserably fail *as if
  9. Anyone attend Area E session and can offer commentary?
  10. anybody know what each band is playing?
  11. Prediction: Reagan and Vandegrift advance from E
  12. God, they are going to sound good this year. Things just keep getting better for that ensemble. Last I checked I am not on drugs... but didn't one of the top DCI groups recently play that fanfare around 3 minutes? like maybe BD? Don't know what any of this music is, although I for sure recognize it by sound, which is making my investigating harder. Thanks for anyone who can help out
  13. Found the answer unintentionally... It is "Escape" by Hans Zimmer from The Little Prince
  14. flutes only!!!!
  15. Not a Texas band but... saw this video probably about 10 years ago when I first entered the activity. Got removed but now has resurfaced. Judges tapes for high school rarely if ever seem to make it online, so its cool to hear one where they gush over a show. Aqua is one of my all time favorites, even though they beat out a few incredible Texas shows that year edit: keep trying to embed but not working
  16. super cool. Would not have guessed that it was a school song when they play it backfield. I see in other vids now where the parents stand up - Thanks for the info!
  17. First of all, to any Hebron kids reading this, the power of this show and its music is something that has been crossing my mind often since BOA SA. Be proud of the place you have taken your program to, and never take it for granted. You guys are rockstars. 1) I am trying to determine what their warm-up selection was this year - its gotta be one of my favorite pieces of music I've ever heard 2) Trying to determine the name of a piece (I'm aware of all the composers that went into the music book). The backfield section right before the "Ode to Joy" closer. Woodwinds play follow-the-leader, brass are in a pyramid block. That whole section until the Ode to Joy hit. Is this the Zimmer piece? If so, what is it? If not, who wrote/what is it? Also undoubtedly one of the most sublime pieces of music I've heard on the field. Thanks to anyone who can help.
  18. Man....... what I would do to see a HQ vid of CTJ..................
  19. What captain and tennille selection did they play?
  20. need help determining the source music in Hebrons show! the section at the end from the oboe (?) solo to the Ode to Joy hit. Is that the Zimmer piece they played?
  21. Highest regional score ever. Previously held by Marcus 2007, also at BOA SA
