  1. pretty sure Stephen F. Austin was the OG school to do this. Look up their 2003 show; iconic. Vandegrift does this extremely well right now, and have done so since they opened. Reagan does it beautifully as well but formerly had a normal guard. I believe they introduced it when their current head director was hired a few years back? Cool to see how schools are able to use dance teams to create a distinct visual program while also drawing on color guard elements to synergize the two approaches
  2. What’s up TXBands, it’s been a minute. Don’t remember if these posts are allowed; if not, sorry in advance, @Admins. For years I’ve been attempting to find a recording of the Marcus Wind Symphony when they won TMEA with Toccata and Fugue (I believe it was the same year). And yes, I know they also marched it, but I do recall hearing that they played it for TMEA one of the years in proximity to that show. If anyone happens to have the recording (or any of theirs, really) I’d be greatly appreciative. Cheers
  3. Dead on the nail here. The Woodlands faced this same struggle each GN trip post-2006 until they finally mastered it in 2013.
  4. Rubisco is pretty dead on. Just got to see the Carmel show. Despite not loving it, the visual/music parity is just stupid good. Think Texas bands may struggle with that point at times — even the top groups
  5. Have been really out of the loop from a national standpoint this year. Seeing lots of talk about Blue Springs vs. Carmel. Is Tarpon in the hunt too? Remember seeing a pretty impressive early video but don't know much otherwise.
  6. I'm late to the party. Attending state on Tuesday was quite a treat for me. First marching contest I've been to in 7 years. Vista Ridge: I'm having a hard time remembering when I was blown away on this level by such dramatic improvement in between seasons (got some major Broken Arrow '06 vibes during retreat on Tuesday). What a darn feat y'all. Cherish these memories I could blabber forever about how much I loved every single band. But I digress. You are all incredible people, thanks
  7. Thought that was an exceptionally clean run from Johnson. Pretty remarkable given the extreme demand.
  8. Agreed. Hebron had cleanest run yetl. Vandegrift was a masterclass as always. Best run of the season perhaps
  9. As usual, I’m skeptical until I see it for myself. Which is why I’m excited to be back at state for the first time in 6 years
  10. Anyone wanna spill the tea on the closeness of scores in Top3?
  11. Indeed. It was such a shame. Although, I'm sure they forgot about it the second they won their class championship at nationals a few days later. haha! And then they, again, drew early in national finals. yeesh
  12. Probably most interesting about these sheets: seeing the rankings within panels
  13. Yes, it is. Fortunately, I am old and not a troll band member brashly celebrating a victory. And not even from Dallas. lol
  14. All I’m pointing out is the impressive and historic domination of DFW at BOA, notably Lewisville. Giving credit where it’s due!

  17. I haven’t been affiliated with the activity in a long a** time, but man, I have secondhand stress for these kids right now lol
  18. Pepperidge farm remembers Rubisco’s thesis essays on BOA shows
  19. Agree. I'm more or less saying that the depth and spread of the talent this year will collectively drive the scores up; not thinking of any show in particular that will be a candidate for deserving an absolutely immense score at San Antonio. To each his own. Of the three, I'd go with Marcus 12 Also -- sans the Marcus/Woodlands 2012 visual tie, 2007/2012 shows swept captions
  20. Marcus 2012 96.10 @ BOA (0.10 behind their their former all-time high score of 96.20 from 2007) UIL Gold I fully think that the depth of talent this year, combined with groups mastering the UIL/BOA balance, could yield equally high scores this year.
