  1. Cedar Ridge and Keller are both recent GN finalists
  2. I could see this contest being GN 2001 level crazy in terms of results (esp. caption split) After prelims Music: Hebron Visual: Avon GE: CTJ/Flomo 1. CTJ 2. Hebron 3. Flomo 4. Avon 5. Vandegrift Call me crazy, I don't care
  3. I don't know what it is, but the early 2000s GN finals videos have this feeling of wonder to them. Just feels super magical. I don't get the same vibe watching new videos. I don't know if it's the production quality or what, but just something I notice anytime I watch late 90s-00s
  4. .... surely better verbiage could have been used here.........
  5. what is the Woodlands' show? Haven't gotten the chance to see anything about it
  6. fighting the urge to be petty so hard right now haha
  7. Let your marching this weekend prove people wrong, rather than your ability to comment on a forum
  8. While I am not the biggest fan, I definitely appreciate BA's effort to change up their show style this year. I've felt in the past few years it's almost reached the point of self-parody. It's a similar problem LD Bell has faced in recent years (so ultimately it may be a Cartwright thing). Always resulting to the massive Guard Ocean, overly dramatic bodywork/theatrics; GE for the sake of GE basically. Really, really felt this way about 2013, 2015, 2016 -- I think 2014 is incredible, though. While they do have the massive guard, as always, I think a lot of aspects from a performance standpoint are much further developed than usual. Visual is going to be immaculate as always, but music has been their struggle. I think they sound pretty sharp this year. This isn't to say the BA archetypes aren't there; it just ... feels a little more subdued. When you look beyond the carts I'd love to see them return to something simple -- yet brilliant -- like Aqua. What'd I'd give to see that Finals year live again!
  9. So with flomarching are DVDs not made anymore? And is there anywhere on the depths of the internet I could buy early 2000s DVDs? I caught all these classics before they got ripped off the YouTube, but now they're obviously all gone. It'd be such a shame if all of those got lost forever. If anyone can help me out, I'd be eternally grateful
  10. Thanks, man. I got chills just reading that. Hope to be able to see it someday
  11. I've heard legends of how brilliant this show was, since I was in the activity sometime ago. Been looking for a video link for ages, but it seems to be the lost one from their glory years. If you can help a man out, let me know. Or, if you got to see it live, would love to read about it
  12. I can die happy the day Broken Arrow decides to attend San Antonio
  13. If you think Rubisco is biased to the Woodlands, you're forgetting him or weren't here in 2013. Which was 100% deserved. Truthfully, I think this over-the-top debate over band rankings was all in Jeremiah's plan. Probably just laughing at everyone from his computer, to be honest. Lol What's that joker quote from The Dark Knight? "it's all.... part...... of the plan"
  14. Didn't Lassiter go under fire in the 90s for recycling ideas as well?
  15. Nice. That opener is wild I wanna say I remember hearing Woodlands 2011 went 200+ at Grand Nats that year?
  16. Avon 2008 has gotta be up there. They fly across the field the majority of the time. This show is so underrated IMO.. I know it won, but I hardly ever see it get talked about.
  17. Late to the party but I'm pretty sure The Woodlands has been wirless mic-ing people for the past decade or so. Don't think that they really need it, but it's definitely allowed
  18. Just missing the days of your in-depth analyses, man. Always looked forward to it!
  19. Rubisco, Rubisco, wherefore art thou Rubisco?
  20. haha, I got a little excited when the results got posted. I think I just made the comment unsubstantiated in the moment. You're right. The volatility of placements in this contest is through the roof every cycle. I'll sit down
  21. http://utdirect.utexas.edu/uilsmbc/lbw2_sched_results.WBX?s_conference=6A&s_round=1&s_display_sw=R Flower Mound seems like a solid lock to win. Bronze (perhaps silver for that matter) is a toss up when you throw out Judge 5's ordinals. They seemed to be a little off from everyone else upon first glance.
  22. Looking at prelims vs. finals sheets is always so very interesting to me. Vandegrift was a solid 3rd and dropped to 7th during finals. Leander was 6th (!!!) and had a stellar finals run to finish 3rd. We saw the same flipping of the two at Austin. Leander was clearly first in prelims, then vandegrift swept in finals. Did the fireworks affect Vandegrift at all? One issue I'm seeing with them is that they are unbelievable at the execution, but lack in "boundary pushing" GE we see from other bands. I think that very well could be holding them back at BOA, but who knows. Very interested to see how they fare at state. Leander-- what a wicked show. Just so dang fun, so cool, so slick. Such a thrill ride. I could go on. I am absolutely thrilled for The Woodlands, it's got to feel incredible to blow everyone's expectations out of the water. I think they and CTJ have really found the sweet spot between demand vs. execution... Kudos to those groups. Can't wait for a flower mound video to pop up... ( )
  23. Incredible. Do prelims recaps get posted in between prelims and finals? Can never remember that answer
