Completely random. But just watched Marcus 2016 for the first time ever. Yeesh, the depth of talent was insane that year across all bands. Think that show would’ve continued Marcus’ reign any other cycle.

Cool, just what I figured, but wanted to be sure. I think you could say the same about Hebron’s music programming as CTJ’s show design — it hides dirt well. Love Hebron and their shows. But, I’ve listened to many of them so much that you begin to realize that, despite the technicality, there still is some lacking execution. I think their San Antonio finals performance may have been a little more rough than usual, which may explain them not taking the W in music. Just my two cents

Question — are these observations based on scores, or comments people make thru the season? Understand that some are based on prior year scores but the others not so sure

I just thinking you’re being naive in your assumption that these adjudicators who have dedicated their entire lives to developing young people are somehow conspiring together to ensure that only the big dogs stay in power. These judges WANT to see each and every band succeed and have new names come to power. Please, waste your energy on something else rather than building up your fallacious and paranoid argument. Forgive me if this thought is misguided, but couldn't this also be a method to help with scoring management? The Top 14 bands at San Antonio have been relatively consistent for the past couple years -- we can agree on that. Think about this: if you take your typical hard-hitters, and spread them out through the day, that offers a more direct comparison of what the "expected" standard is. Consider the possible scenario that X top band gets outperformed by band teetering the bubble this year. In previous years, if it had been 2-3 hours since a big band, I think the comparison would have been much harder; this year, in my perspective, this allows a far better and more consistent comparison of bands across the board. In theory, this should help those bands on the bubble get a fairer and more direct comparison to those you would "expect" to be in finals and allow for greater potential of breakthrough into finals. There isn't anything "preferential" about this and nothing really to get upset over.

I think the point ultimately to be taken away here is that these kids performing are just that... kids. How crushing it is to think back to high school and know how I’d feel reading someone being so abrasive about my show. Whether or not the show is to a program’s typical quality, you know the kids in it feel immense ownership towards *THEIR* show. Disappointing seasons will come, and that in it of itself is enough; we don’t need to exacerbate situations by offering unsolicited, anonymous opinions behind a screen name. The TXBands platform we have is a unique tool that can be used to unify the band world. Let’s use it how it’s meant to be, rather than bastardizing it.

According to my highly reputable sources, who I cannot confirm, although they may be the directors of my band program (which I’m not actually a part of), the last band may or may not have received the highest score, but one can’t be sure because BOA isn’t telling directors the scores, but according to my highly reputable source, who I cannot reveal without causing World War 3, this disputed claim is likely fact, although I cannot confirm at this time, but this was according to my sources, who are highly reputable, apparently, according to, because I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh, people out there in our nation don't have maps and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future.
