BOA Waco 2019
LostChoirGuy replied to gmtb617's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I love that there are so many groups attending that dont often participate in BOA. It makes predicting this difficult, but it is exciting to see how they will all do! -
I find that it is so easy for me to hide behind the computer and say things that tow the metaphorical line. I wish I used my filter a bit more before saying controversial things. Sometimes I think it is good to bring some discomfort to the conversation, but I hate to think that I may be the cause of anyone having their feelings hurt or especially that their ideas aren't welcome.

We are a bit partial towards Avon down in Texas since they did make the trip to San Antonio recently. Any Texas group that has gone to Indy knows that that isnt an easy trip to make!

Just to stir the pot a little bit more, maybe instead of saying the responsibility is on every single band to go to GNats to compete for the title, Carmel should come down to San Antonio to prove their mettle. Carmel didnt come to San Antonio in 2016, so they werent the champion, there. The way this competition is, I'm beginning to think of that champion more as the national champ these days. It goes both ways in my book! Haha Also, I will watch Flower Mound 2016 over and over until the day I die. It is a large part of the reason I follow marching band so vehemently.

2019 BOA San Antonio

Hopefully they introduce semis at San Antonio next year. I'm getting excited just thinking about predicting a top 30 instead of top 14. Wow I'm pathetic. -

Those kids look like they are having so much fun in that "On the Town" show! Its not at all what I was expecting, but I do like it. We will see where it is in a few weeks! -

Way to go, Rouse! Top half! And Stevens and Brandeis both with impressive finals appearances here. -

Honestly I kind of hate their show. That might be a bit harsh, but I just really don't like it. Doesn't mean they aren't still getting those "nuances" that Carmel is famous for that will likely lead to success, but I don't enjoy watching a show like that very much. I know it is just because of bias of preference and there is a good reason I am not a judge. I find a show like Reagan's so much more exciting and enjoyable where the whole performance seems centered around the fact that it's a marching band (an incredibly talented one, yes, but still a marching band) and not an acting troupe or Broadway show put on a football field. This coming from someone who frequently performs in plays and musical theatre. I will say that color guard is on another level up there and it is written so well into their design compared to texas groups. They didnt seem to lose a beat without Rosie Queen. -

Also, I believe that Granbury was a finalist last year in Midland. They will probably be again this year, too. -
My situation is very similar. I went to Keller and I was not in band, but my sister was in band (04-06) and it got me interested in what they were doing (though I was pretty young at the time). In high school, I was very involved in choir, but I had a lot of good friends in band. I took AP music theory as a Junior and about 30 of the 40 students were band students in the top ensembles. My senior year, 2 of my close friends and another decent acquaintance were the drum majors. I guess I just continued to follow marching band because I thought it was amazing what the students were producing and I was excited to see Keller grow to become a power in the state. Over the last few years it has become a bit of an obsession! So I guess that makes me a general fan, right?

Interestingly, both panels have 9 ranked programs, but panel 1 also has 4 programs that are in the "Next 10": Clear Brook, Coppell, Rouse, and Vista Murrieta. -

I think you mixed up Westlake High Schools. -
According to the article that I read about a year ago on the new high school, the school district is anticipating that both schools will become 5A schools after the split and eventually grow back to 6A. I dont know how the alignment dates and the growth of the schools line up, so its possible that you are right, but I do remember reading something like that.

I agree. No offense to SFA or Pearland, but I think Coppell's chances are as high or higher. Also Waxahachie isnt competing at San Antonio this year. -
