  1. Oh jeez, really? I didn't know that. Then I totally agree with that prediction haha.
  2. I think I'd switch out Waxahachie for Coppell. They did pretty well in 2016 and 17.
  3. Sometimes shows just aren't well received from year to year. Cedar Ridge had a state oriented show in 16, and it did great in UIL but not as much in BOA. 17 was a BOA show and we did much better at BOA contests. Take Flower Mound in 16 and 17. They were both incredible shows, but one (16) just did much better than the other (17). It just depends on what everyone else is doing.
  4. I've never seen Hendrickson referred to by it's full name haha.
  5. The last time Texas administered the TAKS for most high schoolers was 2011.
  6. Just to remind everyone what last year looked like: 85.05 - Claudia Taylor Johnson H.S., TX 82.25 - Vandegrift H.S., TX 81.95 - Round Rock H.S., TX 81.90 - Leander H.S., TX 80.30 - Cedar Park H.S., TX 78.40 - Cedar Ridge H.S., TX 77.45 - Hendrickson H.S., TX 75.65 - Winston Churchill H.S., TX 75.00 - James Bowie H.S., TX 73.65 - Vista Ridge H.S., TX
  7. As much as I like Bell, VR is getting back on their feet. Looking forward to the surprises of this season.
  8. This too. Sometimes stuff about schools reminds me that marching band is affected real life haha. Schools definitely will encourage UIL anything (concert or marching) over BOA/other contests. They'll even go as far to provide funds for the trips.
  9. I think State means a whole lot more to Texas bands than venturing out of the state.
  10. I don't think so. Not while I'm here, at least. But I've been surprised every year so we'll see.
  11. That's a fair point. Baseball and football are super quantitative (sans ref calls and whatnot) with innings/quarters and how the games are actually scored. Marching band being super subjective is probably the biggest roadblock in seeing it as a sport. There's also a culture present in the US that STEM is super important and the fine arts are seen as not really that important. These are all things that contribute to marching band's reputation here.
  12. Rereading this thread and wanted to point out that the schools previously served by Atlanta will most likely be attending BOA Powder Springs, about 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta.
  13. This is correct. There is a position listed on the RRISD site for an assistant director position at Westwood HS.
  14. It's disgusting. And quite honestly? Disappointed but not surprised. The Cadets have quite a cult-y reputation. I'm not saying they're good or bad- just stating what I've heard.
  15. Not sure if it's been posted but Waco ISD stadium has been confirmed for BOA Waco.
  16. I think State is definitely the most fluid date. The farthest anyone would have to travel is 12 hours by car at the most. Nats is a whole other story when it comes to the distances that need to be traveled.
  17. This is a super solid prediction. I definitely can see what you wrote happening.
  18. Richland is definitely near Haltom in terms of quality. Had they attended Atlanta they would have done well.
  19. You're right. This is shaping up to be an awesome year.
  20. I heard from members that this was extremely difficult. I'd be very suprised if a Texas band tried doing this.
  21. Are we predicting results before we've seen a single show concept? I love txbands.
  22. Oh that's awesome! I have a buddy who marches with them. I'll have to ask about it next time I see him.
  23. A lot of people tend to disregard Rouse. They're definitely on their way up.
  24. I love going through old threads and rereading takes like this.
