Just saw this thread. I agree with you in that smaller bands have shifted from being as loud as possible to appreciating tone.

Georgetown is awesome this year. 3rd is definitely a solid guess for them.

While we're on the topic of Vandy... I watched Vandegrift live for the first time on Saturday at TMC. Now I just said above that they're super clean, and I get that's why their visual and music scores are so high. Not trying to bag on them, but does anyone else not really get "generally affected" by them? Their show is great and they're a good band but I got bored watching them this year. What am I missing?

I have a very obvious bias so forgive me. I personally thought that sixth at Austin was a pretty good marker that we'll have a good season. You are right though, it's very cocky to say that we deserve a spot in people's finals lists. Glad you said that. It really took me down a few pegs after getting too excited haha.

I saw Hendrickson's prelims and finals run at TMC this weekend. Just typing this out is making me get goosebumps from remembering. Awesome show. Their finals run at night made the show (specifically the props) so much better.

It's unfortunate that we keep being placed in finals "bubbles". I believe that we've proven ourselves enough to be a firm finalist on prediction lists. Oh well. I guess others disagree.

I agree. Watched last year's show when it came up on my Youtube suggested videos. Very good show.

Talking to a few Vista students and watching the show develop was a wild ride through the season. Every time we spoke the show was totally different haha! Jokes aside, the show was incredible. I loved it and totally thought it deserved higher placements too bad everyone can't be finalists.

Saw this after I responded. The same thing (changing movements based on judge comments) happens to us. Interesting point about Vandegrift. I wonder if the directors are aware of a few of the judges being the same?

With judge recordings and the score sheets, I think they're way more critical to improving for contests later in the season than they ever have been. They're typically pretty insightful and helpful. That's my take on it, at least.

Definitely. Seems odd they would use the same concepts two years in a row. Who is the Wes you're referring to?

Dobyns-Bennett and Owasso are the ones I would put in finals over Prosper. They're all good bands, I just feel those two have had particularly great seasons this year.

This is a way more intense season than 2016. And I thought it was crazy last year....
