Only 11 days until Austin!! What an exciting start to the season this is going to be. -

I mean, as a marching band enthusiast, I would really love if he made his pieces accessible. On the other hand, if I were a composer I would be sad if my piece was heavily modified in a way that it no longer reflected the original intention of the composition. -

I was also at the game. I second everything that’s being said. The student section was... something else. -

I posted a link a few days ago which seems to now have been deleted. Here’s a preview video if you’d like to see something pertaining to CTJ this year: -

Not a mod, but I see no reason as to why this shouldn’t be allowed. It’s information available to anyone. I would have looked it up if you hadn’t posted it. -

I think Hebron has stronger music than FloMo. It might be what edges them over. -

Whoops. Responded to a post from April. My statement still stands. -

Not to show my bias, but Cedar Ridge looks the best they have in the history of the program. -
BOA Conroe 2018

I'd like to remind everyone after this awful disappointment: Whenever you enter a school and think, "Wouldn't it be better if we did this?" Just stop. Schools do not operate on logic. Jokes aside, this is incredibly disappointing. Schools should be supporting their students, but not in such a way that it ruins other programs. I'm quite honestly very very tired of fine arts being looked over in schools here. I sincerely hope the students are returned the opportunity they were just robbed of. What a failure on the school's part. Good luck to The Woodlands (and the rest of the bands) at Conroe. -

Round Rock kind of blew me away. They've definitely recovered. -

I wonder how you know so much about the inner workings of the Round Rock band haha. -

I don't want to roast any RR members, but I think people overlook how badly CR beat them last year at San Antonio. Not saying you did (In fact I love your predictions!), just speaking in general. -

Not to show my bias, but Cedar Ridge is much farther along this year than they have been any year prior. They could have a full show on the field (or close to it) by Austin. It would probably help if there was video anywhere online of CR. -

Based on some of the videos I've seen and performances last year: 1. Vandergrift 2. CTJ 3. Cedar Park 4. Leander 5. Cedar Ridge 6. Bowie 7. Vista Ridge 8. Hendrickson 9. Round Rock 10. Churchill -

Vandergrift is super clean. I would put them higher, personally. I also think people overlook Vista Ridge way too often. They're a stellar program and they keep getting better. We'll see how CR and Hendrickson perform after their director changes. I think they'll do fine though. They're strong bands and this won't sway them much. -

The Woodlands last year was pretty good. I hope they can improve on last year. -
"My band". I unfortunately left the program this year. Still pulling for them though. I'll be at all the contests I can actually get to to cheer them on. Maybe Haltom will be at one or two of those and I can see what all the hype is about

Dark Horses and Surprises in 2018
herbaflerb replied to FanofBands's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
That's what I'm wondering. Maybe they got an influx of freshmen? I really can't think of anything that would exempt them from criticism. You kind of set yourself up for heavy scrutiny after you win the most difficult BOA of all time. -
Totally. Jazz running was always the worst to clean. There's no way they lost their magic from last year over the course of six months, so I'm expecting something good by San Antonio.
-
That's fair. I think there's potential. Excited to see what goes down this year.

Found a video. It’s not looking too great. It’s early in the season so who knows. https://youtu.be/PY_obuSYBEY

Dark Horses and Surprises in 2018

I just found a video of CTJ and wow. It’s nowhere near where I expected. They’re still intresting but they aren’t close to last year at all. You guys can form your own opinions here: https://youtu.be/PY_obuSYBEY -
I may have let a little bit of my salt from BOA Atlanta into that take. Haltom is a good band, I just let my own personal beef with them into my post.
