  1. Good luck!! This is going to be a great contest to say you were a part of.
  2. When the contest was reintroduced last season, I was kind of surprised that they didn’t host it at McLane the first go around. I figured it was kind of testing the waters, but I’m glad they decided the contest went so well that they would host it at Baylor.
  3. This contest looks awesome. I can’t believe that TMC is finally becoming popular again. I can’t wait for marching season 2019!!
  4. A friend sent me this post and I literally said “Aww!” out loud. I’m gonna have to start posting again
  5. I know a few people already touched on this, but I am so upset with J5. I’m not a huge fan of Round Rock (go CR!!) but wow. They were Round Robbed tonight.
  6. To be fair, my parents weren't involved at all because literally any task the band asked for took a lot of effort and time that they just didn't have.
  7. Was just about to respond with this. Hendrickson and Cane's, CTJ and Whataburger.
  8. Thank you everyone for your help. All the show titles should be accurate.
  9. All the videos I could find had the 2016 show I guess haha. Maybe I'm just bad at searching for videos.
  10. GN scores kind of confuse me, so what I did was compare a band's SA score vs the scores of the 12 finalists and put where they would have landed. If someone has a better way of doing it, please let me know so I can fix it. Regarding CP, I totally forgot! Thanks!
  11. I made this spreadsheet comparing last year's SA to this year. I plan on adding State data for 2016 and this year (when it happens), so if you want to help with that just let me know. I can't seem to find Vandy's 2017 show title or TWHS' title for this year. Does anyone know what it is? Spreadsheet in question: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1o-Z-BxZ4OVsioTMiabZUXbESMulboP7iyzdTbFwKu_s/edit?usp=sharing Edit: Just realized I put a placeholder for LD Bell 2018 as I didn't find the title for that either. Please don't be offended by "Bagpipe Nonsense". It was a very good show.
  12. They're already having a historical run. It's insane to watch. Go VR.
  13. This reads like you're a member of a band looking for some affirmation. Don't worry about what some forum users say. Just do your best.
  14. I can't tell if you're mocking them, so I'm just going to go ahead and assume you are. I don't know if it's my inter-district bias but RR has always been kind of goofy to me. The new uniforms this year make it really difficult to discern between individuals. I'm not a fan.
  15. Thank you for answering my question civilly. I understand what you guys are saying now.
  16. Not sure if anyone remembers Cedar Ridge 2016, but Round Rock reminds me of that. It's just far too abstract. I like the show and the music is good, but it's a little hard to understand.
  17. I mean I guess? I just don't know how B has "more depth". I'm not even quite sure what "depth" is supposed to mean.
  18. Not really sure how I feel about Hendrickson making finals at San Antonio. Maybe I'm letting my own issues with the show into this opinion, but it really seems like a dry, cookie cutter type show. It's not all that exciting and I wasn't really impressed by the drill/music. It feels like a clarinet solo with some accompaniment. Also LD Bell? I don't know a whole lot about them- does anyone have a video of this year?
  19. Area C and D are far more stacked than Area B.
  20. See a lot of bands on Saturday. Quite a few bands had electronic failures (Cedar Park in prelims, Leander in finals). In Leander's case, they still made their way to second place. Relying to heavily on them could turn your show into a trainwreck when they fail.
  21. Regarding Haltom (I haven't seen the show so take this as you will), it's probably an endurance issue. If the end of the show begins to collapse, most of the time it means the band as a whole needs to work on using their energy effectively and push to the end.
  22. The amount of mics used Saturday were crazy. I mean I like when it's used tastefully, but it can just get out of hand. Take Round Rock for example. A fantastic bari sax ensemble, but mics were so overpowering. It was distracting how loud they were. I'm a fan of advancement in band tech, but let's click it down a few notches. While I'm talking about electronics, some synth yesterday was ridiculous. My seat was literally shaking due to how loud the ""supporting"" electronics were. John Paul Stevens was a bad offender of this. They have a great and well-balanced sound, but synth at the hits made it sound so fake. These things are both awesome if bands just used them with a little more discretion.
