  1. Thank you so much. While we don’t know what happened, we impacted people with our show. That’s what matters. We don’t need a score to tell us that we made history in our own hearts and how we changed the hearts and minds of others.

  4. 2nd time in the last 8 years... maybe they'll get to go last in finals like they did in 2018 after going first in prelims. Who am I kidding. Just hope they get top half after this. Of course with Keller and Vista Ridge going off right after, it makes the early morning must view.

  7. Clements making state in a notoriously hard area after getting a 1-1-2 at region is probably the most compelling story of the season. Way to go!

  8. Congratulations to all the preformers today. Every one of you overcame adversity though logistics with the reschedule, missing school, potential bus issues; but everyone still came with their fighting faces and made it a very great and memorable night for all. I hope everyone is proud to either continue their show and hopefully get 1 or 2 more runs, or reflect and be very happy with the memories you have made this year Y'all deserve it.

The same number given to two bands is a mistake and should have been caught by that judge and the chief judge of the event.

    It’s the sum of the 5 judges placements, which is how the bands are ranked. Example: Music 1 - 3rd Music 2 - 3rd Music 3 - 2nd Visual 1 - 2nd Visual 1 - 5th Your score would be 15 (3+3+2+2+5)

  21. Lumberton!! Give me some more of that! At first I was like “not another Alice in Wonderland Show”. I was worried at first but after the first 30 seconds I was hooked. The duet was excellent not to fond on the second solo but I can see them as a contender!

  22. there's def something to be said about getting your show spotless, that's an effect in itself, and i think flomo is going to get darn close to spotless w/ this show by nats.

  23. just heard from a duncanville marcher that their band is 50% freshmen, and that they didn’t get their closer until two weeks ago because of the director controversy. I just want to say bravo to the duncanville marchers, and that getting 9th with everything they had to deal with is truly amazing. don’t let the drop get to you guys keep it up!!!

  24. blaaaah, im gettin the feelin this is gonna be more like 2021 than 2019. hold me!!! lol don't think it'll be a blowout but def leaning towards an Avon win here rn. the vis program is soooo dynamic and difficult while having a fresh look that's right here right now lol. their ind marcher program is crazy, w/ all the layered body challenges and some proper lifts like you'd see in an actual pas de deux. music's never boring either. guard obv not as strong as 2019 but considering their world guard imploded just a few months ago, rlly pretty impressive. Carmel, yeeeeea, k, better than i initially thought, and Malaguena is more fun and spicier than id expect from them, but not 100% sold. they've still got the music boxes on the judging sheets mostly checked off ofc w/ their usual expressive range of skills. my fav part is the bull or maybe cow costuming on the guard, there's a lot of personality down there on the field. flomo, hmmm, tbh, didn't get the hype until the big hit of the ballad, then the music has such amazingly expressive qualities, the longer phrases, the ritardandos. sooo elegant, artistic. continues into the final movement when the vis difficulty steps up a lil after ind marching demand kinda light in the first part, relative to their peers. big finish for sure. flags a lil iffy on timing and angles throughout but was prob windy. overall wish the vis program was a lil more dynamic, it's so... big... a lot. the girth of it all!! lol. broken arrow, tbh, it's fun and interesting and stylish and bluecoats but somehow still not super memorable for me. big brassy tutti moments when the drill complexly builds into a central focus give u a lil bit of Wow, but i want more. reminds me of tw in me wanting something just a weee bit deeper. marry the fun to the profound. dont feel super strongly one way or another, just some feelings i have rn.

  32. Typically you should see judges scores close to each other or maybe 2-3 off but when you see 1 judge way off everyone else it makes you question what they were seeing. Of course not all judges can be the same there are some good judges out there and some that have differences in what they like and don't like.

  36. I love that you've seen these two bands in person. I find that perspective really valuable. I can't say I completely understand why you're that concerned. There are four different videos of TWHS from UIL Area finals on YouTube right now, and I think both the design and performance are outstanding -- hanging with the top in my mind. The new ending is awesome. Is it a bit dirty? Yes, but so are the other bands. I think in some ways the shows are less demanding, like drill velocity and step size, but then in other ways they're challenging. Somebody mentioned choreo, and I think that's true compared to at least a few of their peers. I think another challenge, which is related to being "big" all the time visually, is the listening environment being spread out across the field. Flower Mound also plays a lot of weird complex chords that can be hard to clean. I think they're great this year, yet again. Will they win Nationals? I don't know yet, and I probably won't until it's announced.

One thing to remeber, the recaps are supposed to crazy, there are now 4 different sheets that judges are using. If you see something crazy between music judges, that is likely because there is a difference between levels of performance. It's not crazy for a group to have really strong brass and woodwinds and poor percussion, for example.

  43. Predictions 1. Flower Mound, TX 2. Avon, IN 3. Carmel, IN 4. Broken Arrow, OK 5. The Woodlands, TX 6. Blue Springs, MO 7. Marcus, TX 8. Bentonville, AR 9. Ronald Reagan, TX 10. William Mason, OH 11. Dripping Springs , TX 12. Dobyns-Bennett, TN ------------------------------ 13. Fishers, IN 14. Castle, IN Call me crazy but honestly this looks like a really solid and very possible outcome. Flomo is really looking like they are gonna take the win here over Avon which would be greta to bring Kevin back to texas.Their area run was honseslty one of the best shows ive seen in a long time. The Woodlands is also making astrong case to medal here but I will have to see them at SA to really see where they could land in Indy. Marcus and Ronald Reagan have pretty secure spots in finals, they had terrific area runs and I could see one of them potentially break into the top half. Honestly, Dripping Springs is making a serious case for finals here, they really showed up at area and they looked and sounded amazing, I will have to see how the do at SA to see what the BOA judges think of them now. RR and SLC are both really strong shows but I dont see them getting into that finalst spot this year but you never know.

  44. I have to say I am disappointed that Foster is not in finals. Watched their prelim performance and it looked so clean. Those students brought it all and sold me, first time I have seen their show and was hoping for another look. Wishing all finalists a great run tonight.

  48. I just saw the full prelims recap and this is outrageous. First off congratulations to all the students who performed today, I’m so glad you were able to further your music education and make memories for a lifetime. One of the judges broke a rule and put a tie in between two bands in his scoring, and pretty much scoring was all over the place. Was this the 10 we needed to finals? Pretty much kind of. The order though is questionable. The percussion judge I commend for his scores being the most accurate.

  49. That’s is true but you also have to see how close it was! Lakeview was 86.100 *i think* and north was 86.500 * i think* that gap is really small!

  50. I'm way higher on this FloMo show than a lot of people it seems. I love it, no one does color progression better than them imo. Love the drill, and this is one of the best(THE best to my ear) sounding bands they have put out post covid. So many gorgeous musical moments, woodwinds are killer in terms of clarity and tone. I don't really think the individual marcher difficulty is going to hurt them much. You could have said the same thing about Vandy vs Avon in 2019 and it didn't hold them back. This is the closest thing we will get to seeing what would have happened if "POP!" had gone to nationals in 2018.
