  1. Okay we back! So ummm yeah, Wylie just got screwed over lol. Still so happy for LT but I don't think that this means Wylie is in a bad spot. Here's a little recap on the other bands I missed: Argyle: Wow, they are not letting off the gas. At this point idk how the judges will decide between them, MN,LT and Reedy for state bc wow they sound and look amazing. Just such a big sound, and ofc visually they are always strong. LT: Yeah soooo, they were not happy about last season. At this point, I think they've got 3rd place at area in the bag unless they have a band run but I'm happy they've been pacing out the show, hoping to see more in a few days at Prosper. They have such a huge field presence, those soloists, especially the Oboe, just so good. Visual package is so demanding, so much GE, they are bringing the heat, will probably make state finals Heath: Another band building off new momentum from last season. Just a wall of sound, that opener gave me chills. Love the theming and use of the props. Very cool show should do very well at area. Reedy: Guys they want state so bad. It sucks they have such an early performance time but even so I think they are a really strong contender for finals at prosper, which would give them so much momentum into area. I mean they are just so clean musically, the end was a little rough, but they got it back together. Rockwall: Wow wow wow!! @Meatballmax07, that solo was phenomenal. They have such a big sound. I think though that the crazy drill, which is so mesmerizing, is at times causing some inconsistency in the sound, but still plenty time to clean. A very strong show and could def make state. Mckinney North: Just what you would expect from them at this point. Huge sound, amazing soloists, but again imo to much soloing and not enough band. I do think that they might have to change styles under the new judging system, maybe. But they are just as strong as ever, really entertaining show. Mckinney: OMG!!! They probably would have won if they were competing. Wall Of Sound. I was not ready for that opening impact, they are gonna do soooo well this coming weekend. If area J took 5, they would be the 5th, I think. Soloists were fantastic, and visually so much going on. Lots of super cool bodywork, and wow that guard. Really happy to see them doing so well. But yeah, a great night, congrats again to everyone!!

  3. Regarding the judging inconsistencies from week to week: I think with the proliferation of BOA regionals, BOA has had to do some major recruiting in recent years. We've seen a lot of new names on the panels. With that comes some growing pains, I guess you could call it -- or maybe even just new perspectives. Many of the newcomers do have experience from WGI or DCI, but it's not exactly the same. Of course, my heart goes out to bands like Cy-Fair, who bear the brunt of the bizarre shifts. They have every right to be frustrated and disappointed.

  4. I will admit when I am wrong. I was wrong about Dawson.

  5. You missed USbands but gosh WTF is happening Elkins genuinely might be goated with that 13th, did Clear Brook explode or something?? Also Foster is taking a lead on these state bands. Clear Lake is locked in locked in. And PM 6th at USBands is insane. It needs to be Area already I can’t predict these results anymore. At this rate Dawson is gonna win the area or something

  6. And congratulations to Flomo!!! This is boding very well for their Nats trip!!!

  7. Yes, but it's still going to be very hard. Lots of bands here having their best seasons to date. Here's my midseason predictions: 1. Wakeland 2. Lone Star 3. Lebanon Trail 4. Argyle 5. Mckinney North 6. Reedy 7. Independence 8. Walnut Grove 9. Heritage 10. Emerson --- 11. Liberty 12. Memorial Yeah have no idea how this will go. I think I'd say my top 7 are locks for me, would be surprised about no WG but those last two have lots of potential bands that could take them. This could be THE area B of all times

  9. There’s a lot of talk about captions, but let’s remember that Birdville won 3 captions, and it was just music. Woodwind, Brass, and Overall Music. On the 5A recap, all their visual scores tanked their overall score. North Mesquite didn’t have any “first place” scores except for GE (which wasn’t awarded like last year- which lead to TC winning last year), but they were top 2 in everything except percussion. Birdville’s GE, guard, and marching killed them. Let’s not think about the number of captions, because it was all just music, which is only one aspect of the activity.

  11. It’s really insane seeing how far independence has come under Mr. king. I mean wow, that’s definitely a dark horse for state. So much power in the sound, soloists were fantastic. Could beat RH tn and I wouldn’t be super shocked. Probably their best show to date, amazing job Indy!!

  12. The inconsistency is getting out of control tbh. They need to put in adequate training so you don’t have rogue judges going off the rails.

  13. Any thoughts on Brazoswood? I think clear lake is going to go far with this show they did great!! I'm shocked about clear brook not making finals and placing 18th in prelims.

  14. suuuuure does make u question the whole 2 panel prelims system for super regionals again, don't it??? if after only a week the results shift so much bc of a panel change??? but boa's chief judges claim it's not an issue bc their judges are sooo well trained and know the box system so well. eyeroll!! biggest eyeroll ever!!! lol

  15. 1. Waxahachie 2. Forney 3. Rockwall 4. Sachse/D-Ville 5. D-ville/Sachse 6. Rockwall Heath 7. Lake Highlands 8. North Forney 9. Berkner 10. JJ Pearce (maybe higher?) I'd say this is more of my list of finalists rather than actual placements, could see Tyler Legacy or Richardson slip in as well

  16. Wouldn't put Cy-Fair so low just yet. We got a remember these 2 contests ALWAYS have very interesting and skewed judging in between. Clear Brook made top half at Conroe, but at South Houston they got 18th? Not to mention Cy Fair got 1st at North Houston while Friendswood got 10th? (i believe?) And all the sudden within a week they're switched? I think we should definitely wait another week or two. It's inconsistent, and we have no idea how Cinco or Jordan would do because they didn't compete.

  17. 10/4 contest BOA South Houston- 1st - Pearland 4th - Dawson 7th - Foster 9th - SFA 10th - Dickinson 11th - Clear Lake (Prelims - Overall rank) 21th - Ridge Point 20th - Travis 19th - Brazoswood 18th - Clear Brook 17th - shadow Creek 16th - Fulshear 15th - George Ranch 13th Elkins Galena Park Marching Festival 1st - Clements 3rd - Deer Park (I think that’s all the contests that happened let me know if I missed any and if I missed any bands in our area in the comps)

  18. Ever so thankful my director had the band stay for finals, despite us not making the cut. Every single performance was incredible and the bands I got to chat with a little were super sweet and nice! For my first time seeing FloMo and Hebron and a lot of others, this was a helluva first impression!!!! Great job everyone and good luck to the exhibition performance!!!

  22. Heritage: sooo, heritage is really freaking good. Their ensemble sound is huge, and omg that perc is sooooo clean, wished their feature was longer. Need to work on some accuracy in trumpets. Visually very good as well, really nailed those cover downs, should make finals at area, them and Emerson may be closer than some may have thought…maybe, I’m no judge

  23. Yes, Legacy Ranch is performing with only freshmen and sophomores this year. They made state alternate last year with only freshmen.
    3 points
  24. North Forney: loved the theming and GE throughout. Lots of it in the drill in particular. Musically very strong, some things in the brass that need cleaning but overall a very strong run, could maybe break into area finals? They’re definitely chasing it. also phone at 12%. Will do my best to get everyone but if I can’t will post thoughts when I’m home

  25. Totally disagree. It may not have a bunch of top end bands, but the ones here are very good and the competition is strong.

  26. 6 of the top bands in this area could be all make top 20 at state, and the top 4 could definitely make top 10. This area is just too competitive…

    UIL 6A Area C 2025

A lot can change in three weeks, but yesterday's results change almost everything for me. We do have the Birdville contest next week, so we'll see how Duncanville and Sachse fair against each other, but Duncanville could be in danger of losing a state spot to Rockwall. Heath placing above Rock Hill and North Forney above J.J. Pearce is huge as well. McKinney used the new area judging format, so it was a real good look at how things could play out. We have a new player in town. Tyler Legacy may very well shock the world, and not only make area finals, but do well in the process. The finals bubble has now gotten bigger as a result. Lake Highlands and J.J. Pearce will probably still make it, but there are more bands in this area ready to play spoiler than ever. Rowlett and John Horn have seemed to find their way back into the finals bubble. North Forney is a huge player as well. Anything can happen!

  29. Same judge had them (Wylie) lower in prelims too. All subjective but this an example that shows one judge can change everything. Not calling judge out in bad way. Its subjective. Is what it is

Some notable results from yesterday: BOA Bedford - Waxahachie finishes 6th in Finals - Sachse with their best finish yet at Bedford (14th, one away from finals) - Berkner finished 16th in Prelims McKinney Marching Invitational - North Forney finishes 12 in Finals (notably they took the last finals spot over J.J. Pearce) - Both Rockwall AND Rockwall-Heath place above Rock Hill in Finals USBands Crowley - Duncanville finishes 5th in Finals, notably below some smaller Area J bands - Tyler Legacy finishes 6th in Finals, 0.2 points behind Duncanville - John Horn finishes 8th in Finals Sounds of Fall (Princeton) - Royse City finishes 5th in Finals (was 2nd in Prelims behind Celina) Don Hanna Memorial - I haven't seen a full finals recap, but Rowlett made finals (9th in Prelims)

Kuddo's to Mineola for hosting! The place was packed and I could see this being a huge beginning of the year showdown for several bands to start the season off for the new few years to come.

  36. Hey guys! Crazy big day of comp and a lot of stuff to unpack. So, the elephant in the room, Harlingen champs!! This is a huge deal. First off, I gotta say, I know not everyone will agree with the scores but we have to be civil about this, I get your band may have been good and you disagree with the scores but everyone works really hard for their shows and bringing people down isn’t the way to do things! With that being said, congrats to Harlingen, what a big comeback from last year!! What a nice show they have! Also congrats to Weslaco and LF for taking the other 2 spots. Great showings from EVERYONE! What an amazing competition guys, I can’t wait to see what happens when Area rolls around!

  37. As the years go by, I find myself less and less impressed by show designs so I'm happy Flower Mound still finds ways to genuinely pull my attention in terms of creativity and prop usage. Loveddd how they made the faces wink

  41. My favorite show tonight is definitely FloMo...... they are impeccable..... Hebron is awesome but I feel FloMo is on a different level this year.... the artistry is beyond Hebron..... I know i may get flack for this but judging colorguard in the past I feel FloMo has a better flow of drill and musicality......

  42. Yeah so Wylie was insane. Ballad is straight magic, insane sax soloists. Just such a big presence and mature sound. Thought the narration added some nice effect. Visually very strong, couple moments in the drill. And that guard, WOW. Amazing job TWB!!

  43. Wylie….band to beat! From first hit to end, clean and awesome! Starting off top 6 on 🔥 Would be shocked if they don’t pull out the Victory tonight. But I know who I want to push them. That sax solo 🎷 the one color guard girl that fell on her arial, bless her. Glad she looked like she could brush off. My daughter gasped.

  44. PLANO EAST, hello??!?! This is bottom half??? This is my first time seeing this legendary program live and boy are they building off last season, a very strong contender for area finals and even finals at boa Waco. There is soooo much GE, both musically and visually. The pick axe section was so fun, soloists were nails, like omg they are really good. Watch out area J

  45. Holy huge brass heritage good job btw

  46. Emerson: really nice show! They lowkey sound at times like a concert band, such maturity in the sound. A couple stick outs in the last cord but that was it. Visually very engaging, but I just with it was a bit more mature theme. It’s not bad but I think next year they can handle something more challenging. Great job Emerson!
