I have revised the schedule switching McCallum with Moe & Gene Johnson on Friday. Also, BOA SA newcomer John F Kennedy HS has been added first thing Friday morning!

This is an insanely stacked contest. Very easy for a group to be forgotten in the mix when making a prediction. I wouldn't take it personally or as "hate".

Honestly, I just don’t know anything about them & haven’t seen their show, so the name didn’t stand out. I assume they could possibly medal since I got called out for not listing them? It’ll be exciting to watch some new powerhouse bands I haven't gotten to see yet.

We are not likely to medal, but bobthecat isn't way off base -- 7th place Grand Nats finalist last year, 6A state finalist, BOASA finalist, consistently first in our Area, etc. I fully expect that we will be finalists in both contests, and strong finalists at that. It'll be a great showdown!

I guess B-land to be 9-12 a little stronger than 7L

mus: dave carbone, andrew cook, tom dean, jeff harper, jay kennedy, john phillips, richard saucedo, jay webb.

vis: lee carlson, john howell, greg llacer, juno orifice, warren rickart, drew solomonson.

dave and richard pulling double duty here and at 6A state.

a great, mostly super duper experienced boa panel. a couple o wild cards, but no im not naming em, iykyk, lol.

if anyone knows the prelims panel assignments that'd be great. don't think boa puts it on their prelims results anymore, prob for the safety of the judges LOL. they may still announce it however, dunno.

lol i was moreso thinking about the ones who have a history being a bit off the rest in general, but im sure lotsa schools have specific judges they don't want to see. vista almost certainly has one this season after the Austin regional. maybe theyre thankful they won't see him again.

gotta wonder how much that factors into boa's panel selection. Curtis over at wgi says he tries to balance the Dayton judges based on what he knows about their tastes/preferences. doesn't sound easy!! wgi doing double panels prob helps tho.

I guess there hasn't been enough pushback against BOA to get them to add the double panels that WGI and (sort of) DCI have. Either that, or they don't care. I find it a little surprising. I think the staff of the top independent WGI and DCI programs would flip out at the idea of a single judge controlling a full fifth of their unit's score at a major finals event.

Doesn't US Bands have double panels sometimes, too? If they advertised that better, maybe they'd be able to draw some of the big dogs away from BOA. I like that they have percussion and guard captions, too.

I don't recall who suggested it first, but I think the ideal system is DCI's, except with brass replaced by a winds caption. Separate awards for winds, percussion, and guard are unnecessary, however.

I actually disagree with this from a student perspective. I know a lot of students both past and present who would greatly appreciate the recognition of a percussion and guard award rather than them just being somewhat attached to the music/visual/GE score. A lot of students really appreciate that TMC actually highlights those groups even if their scores don't factor into the total.

agreeeed. think it would be cool even if they're actually added to the score for once like in dci. ooonly thing is potential for stirring division in band programs. always a lil curious if the uil results have that effect, like "we lost bc [insert section] got 20th and we all got 1st!!!!" lol

moving to dci would shift effect to 40% and the music/vis split to 50-50. think there'd be a ton o proponents for the first, latter might be a harder sell, but in tx we already have THE uil which has the very strong music perf skew.

should start a lone star league to test out the new system!!! lol

also put the ordinals on the gd sheet!!! lolol
