  2. QUOTE (barisaxy08 @ Jun 20 2007, 06:48 PM) but yeah...robert horry...does he have the most rings in NBA history?!?! Robert Horry has the most among active players with 7 (2 with the Houston Rockets, 3 with the Los Angeles Lakers, and 2 with the San Antonio Spurs). The most rings in NBA history: 1. Bill Russell = 11 2. Sam Jones = 10 3. Tom Heinsohn = 8 4. KC Jones = 8 5. Satch Sanders = 8 6. John Havlicek = 8 7. Frank Ramsey = 7
  3. QUOTE (MartinHorn @ Jun 19 2007, 01:10 PM) I'm hearing that Martin got a new band director. David Carbone or something like that. David Carbone is highly regarded in the band world. Before moving to Texas to become the Associate Director at UTA, David was the head director at Bellbrook HS of Ohio from 2001-2005. He led the band to numerous Finals appearances at BOA Regionals and were named Class AA Champions at Grand Nationals multiple times. Martin is in good hands.

The more that I watch the show, the more that it's starting to grow on me. It's not as bad as some make it out to be. I could do without the cheese of the narration. Because when you take out the voice, the music is pretty awesome.

QUOTE (NSUMusician @ Jun 18 2007, 09:42 AM) I hated it! I enjoyed Westfield 03 and Kennesaw Mountain 04 more than the Cadets show. TAKE OUT THE NARRATION! It does nothing for the show. I'm ok with some tasteful narration, i.e. Bluecoats 07, Cadets 05, etc. This has just gone too far. It takes away from the musical performance. Also, to me it seems a bit "snooty." They act like they are the only ones who make sacrifices and stuff. The music is awesome! They are playing really well, but the narration takes away from the whole show. Could not have agreed more. The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the show was....Kennesaw Mountain 2004.

  8. QUOTE (NSUMusician @ Jun 16 2007, 09:12 PM) I compare this show to a mix of 05, 04, and 03. It's got SOME of the attitude of the 007 show, some of the same musical style of the Spin Cycle show, and somewhat the same program design of the My Kind of Town show. That's how I feel about their show this year too. I prefer the aggressive style of the Cavaliers such as 2000 more so than their light-hearted fun shows like 2003 & 2005.
  9. I just got home from San Antonio so I only got to see Bluecoats and Cavaliers.... I really liked the Bluecoats show, but I couldn't get into the Cavaliers show....at all.
  10. QUOTE (ClaireAnnette07 @ Jun 12 2007, 04:30 PM) My prediction for Area F state qualifiers are Friendswood and Dickinson, just like it's been for (at least) 2 4A State marching years I, however, hope that Galena Park kicks the pants off Dickinson this year (if I can't root for my alma mater, who is 5A, then I go for GP!) I hear ya. I graduated from an Area F 4A school myself (Angleton) and Dickinson, Friendswood & Santa Fe were always fighting for the top spots. The closest we ever got was at Area F in 2001 when we tied for Friendswood for the final spot for State. However, Friendswood ended up breaking the tiebreaker. I don't see any changes from 4A Area F anytime soon. Friendswood & Dickinson are fantastic bands.
  11. I highly recommend checking out other pieces by Eric Whitacre not named October. He's written some incredible stuff, especially his chorale works. My all-time favorite symphonic piece of his is Lux Aurumque and my favorite chorale piece of his is Water Night. It's powerful stuff....moreso than October.
  12. Their 2005 show was "Fowl Play: Music of the Birds"
  13. Marcus has released their show title for the 2007 season. Marcus HS, TX 2007 "Botanika" http://www.marcusband.com/publicshowannounce.htm
  14. There will be 14 finalists this year. BOA Super Regional rules: If there are 45 or more bands participating in the Super Regional, the top scoring fourteen (14) bands regardless of classification will advance to Finals. If there are less than 45 bands, the top twelve (12) scoring bands regardless of classification will advance to Finals.

  16. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Jun 5 2007, 04:20 PM) i think if it were closer to Texas, not necessarily in Texas. it would be cool maybe more of the good bands could go like Marcus ummm and im blank atm Marcus had plans on attending this year's Grand National Championships, but decided not to go since their Wind Symphony was invited to perform at the Midwest Clinic & Convention in Chicago in December. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to go next year or the years after that.
  17. Can we have two different sections for the rankings this year? One for regular members and one for staff members.
  18. I oppose the idea of having Grand Nationals in Texas because of the statements said above. However, I'm all for the idea that Grand Nationals needs to be rotated between three cities. Indianapolis, Indiana (Lucas Oil Stadium) St. Louis, Missouri (Edwards Jones Dome) Atlanta, Georgia (Georgia Dome)
  19. After reading this on the YEA website last night, I decided I'm going to go to the premier next week. I can't miss the first performance for the Crossmen.
  20. Drum Corps predictions should be up fairly soon. And, marching band predictions usually begin when the official and final performance schedules are released by the competition host.
  21. Some information on Stephen F. Austin.... Dustin Winson was recently announced the new head director at Sugar Land's Stephen F. Austin HS. Winson most recently held the position as Assistant Director at League City Intermediate in League City (a suburb of Houston). He previously held positions as assistant at Clements & Westfield HS and was on The Cadets brass staff in the early-mid 2000's. He was also the drum major of the Cavaliers in 1994 & 1995. P.S.: SFA is still going to BOA Grand Nationals.
  22. QUOTE (Trumpet Master @ May 8 2007, 06:28 PM) we were going to do Paradise Lost by Whitacre but it would have cost us $10,000 just for the electronic sounds not including the music costs and drill and new uniforms and junk. Its amazing who your director is friends with. lol we are doing a ******* show. Yeah, its a secret for at least a few weeks. Oh my god, I wish you guys could afford it. That would've been $10,000 well spent. Paradise Lost is EXCELLENT. I can't wait until the soundtrack is released later this year. I hope Whitacre and his crew brings the Paradise Lost tour to Texas one day.
  23. Aside from from the major competitions such as BOA & UIL, the Lone Star Preview is one of the premier marching competitions in the state. The adjudication panel is first class and consists of judges from BOA, WGI, & DCI. Also, bands such as Ronald Reagan, Spring, Westfield, Brazoswood (just to name a few) have attended in the past. I went to this competition in 2002 as a spectator and had a great time. If you want, you can view past results at this page.... http://www.twhsband.com/Boosters/Fundraise...st%20Events.htm
  24. Crossmen Dallas competition: Marcus HS - Flower Mound, Texas San Antonio Regional: Ronald Reagan HS - San Antonio, Texas The Cadets Dallas competition: Burleson HS - Burleson, Texas Austin "Music Is Cool" Event - Hendrickson HS - Pflugerville, Texas San Antonio Regional: Lehman HS - Kyle, Texas
  25. Houston is going to be an excellent early season Regional this year. 34 bands are on the list. That's the most that the Houston Regional has ever seen including the 1990's when Houston was a late season Regional. Over half the field are potential Finalists. Brazoswood HS Clear Brook HS Cypress Falls HS Friendswood HS Harlingen HS James Bowie HS John B. Connally HS Klein HS L.D. Bell HS Langham Creek HS Martin HS Pearland HS Ronald Reagan HS Sharyland HS Spring HS Stephen F. Austin HS The Woodlands College Park HS The Woodlands HS Westfield HS Winston Churchill HS Also, it's good to see Spring back in BOA after taking a break last year.
