  3. When used the right way, I LOVE electronics in the marching activity. I absolutely admire the way Ronald Reagan used the synthesizer as another layer of color to the music back in the 2001-2005 years and the same goes with Spring in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I agree with the comments on L.D. Bell & Westfield as well. Loved Westfield 2002 and the innovative 2000 show.
  4. I was the one that did the sheets for BOA Houston last week. I was working a marching competition in Laredo yesterday so I wasn't in Arlington. I will be in San Antonio for the Super Regional and Indianapolis for Grand Nationals.

  7. Just throwing this idea out there..... Would it be better if we cut out some of the less used areas on the forum? Right now we have close to 20. Thats A LOT for a forum. I think if we did this it would make the community a lot neater and the discussions would be a lot easier to find. Maybe have it set up like this...... Events on TXBands Site Suggestions, Problems & Questions Marching Band Discussion Drum Corps Discussion Concert Band Discussion Band Director's Discussion General Off-Topic Discussion And, that means getting rid of the repertoire, woodwind, brass, percussion, Meetme (that can just go into the events on TXBands section) and the less visited areas. My $.02.

  13. The following are my own Prelims & Finals recaps. I like to "play" judge sometimes. I like to sit back, watch the shows from every possible angle, put down my numbers, and then compare them to the actual results. I write down all of my numbers after each band has performed using the actual recap and judging criteria of the respective circuit. The difference between my recap is that I show how I arrive at the actual score for each subcaption....something that BOA doesn't show on their actual recap. I did this last year on the BOA Forums and got a great response from it. Remember, that these recaps are for entertainment purposes only. Actual recaps of the Houston Regional can be found on the Music for All website on Monday at http://musicforall.org
  14. I woke up Saturday morning at 5:45am to get ready for the 2007 BOA Houston, TX Regional Championships in Pearland, Texas. I left the house at around 6:30 and arrived at the stadium at 7. I was happy with the site location because not only is the Pearland District Stadium (The Rig) a fine facility, but Pearland is located in the same county that I reside in. I live about 30 miles south of Pearland in Angleton so it was a short drive up to the stadium rather than hitting the highways and interstates in Houston. I arrived at The Rig, parked my car, and made my way to the box office to purchase my tickets. I bought the Day Pass for both Prelims & Finals which cost me $23. It's a great deal considering that you get to watch 28 bands in Prelims and 12 (plus the two exhibitions) in Finals. And when you add it all up....that
  15. My post on the BOA Houston Regional will be broken into four different parts on this thread.... -Thoughts -My Scores with the Recap Sheet -Band Information -Pictures (If you're my friend on Facebook, you can view all 90 pics from the Regional in my photo album.) You can find them all in the posts below. Enjoy..
  16. What an incredible competition. I was there from sun up to sun down. I'm sweaty (thanks humidity), a little sunburnt, and exhausted. I'll get started on my post with my thoughts and own personal scores soon and probably post them tomorrow..
  17. Tomorrow is the day. Hopefully the rain will be just spotty showers. I'll be there bright and early at 7am. I'll be wearing my Whitacre 'Paradise Lost' shirt so if you see someone wearing that at the stadium, it'll most likely be me. Reviews and etc will be up by (or on) Monday.
  18. QUOTE (thesaxchica @ Oct 4 2007, 10:07 PM) What I'm wondering is, what's up? We had so much extra time during the summer this year because of the new late school start. I can understand Langham's predicament, but... In addition to having large amounts of drill (Westfield, I believe has over 100 sets), the northern half of the Houston area has been plagued with an abundant amount of rainfall since the summer. Furthermore, Westfield will be rehearsing from 1-9pm on Saturday. Their goal is to finish the rest of the drill at the rehearsal along with a full show run through.
  19. The final version of the BOA Houston schedule has been posted. View the top of this thread for the schedule.
  20. QUOTE (bossman @ Oct 4 2007, 08:26 AM) a 2a school is classified as what? Classification is based on band size rather than school size. The classes are as follows: Group 1: 1-43 members Group 2: 44-58 Group 3: 59-77 Group 4: 78-103 Group 5: 104-140 Group 6: 141+ In addition.... A Class = For groups new to the competition scene or are in their rebuilding stages. Open Class = For more experienced groups.
  21. QUOTE (Trumpet Master @ Oct 3 2007, 08:21 PM) That makes sense, but does that mean those band who compete in the first half are not competing with those in the second half? USSBA is really confusing. The bands are performing in their class size. Each class is on at a different time.
