  1. QUOTE (cjflash @ Sep 18 2007, 09:02 PM) Kind of randomly, does anyone know which direction the stadium faces? I'd hate to be marching at 4:00 in the afternoon with the sun shinging in my eyes. I get enough of that at afterschool practice. The press box faces the East. If you're performing on the field, then you'll be facing West.
  2. The first major event to kick off the 2007 Texas marching band season. Looks like it's going to be an incredible Regional. Take notice of the last block...extremely competitive.

  6. QUOTE (bossman @ Sep 16 2007, 08:55 PM) I remember when i was @ one school in Missouri they had this huge hole. And i was back marching at 208. Long story short the hole gave me a hug, and my contra and i were drenched in mud. Off-topic but.... I saw Westfield on Channel 2 on Friday night. Albeit you guys were performing a stand tune at the game...the band sounded great!
  7. Don't worry...the page is supposed to widen due to the size of the sheets.
  8. Definitely can't wait to see this show. Last time I heard they were doing music from Eric Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque", Frou Frou/Imogen Heap's "Let Go", and another song by Immy.
  9. Reviews, indeed. In addition, I will be doing something new on TexasBands this year. I will be posting my own judging sheet after each event. I like to "play" judge sometimes. Just sit back, watch the shows, put down my numbers, and then compare them to the actual results. I write down my own numbers immediately after each band has performed using the actual recap and judging criteria of the respective circuit. I did this last year for Finals at the BOA San Antonio Super Regional Championships and Semifinals at the BOA Grand National Championships. The difference between my recap is that I show how I arrive at the actual score for each subcaption--something that BOA doesn't show on their actual recap. I did this last year on the BOA Forums and got a great response from it. For those interested, I posted my recap spreadsheet from last year below. I also did some for DCI this past summer. If you're interested in those, let me know and I'll post them as well. Realize that this is all for fun. -Michael

  12. During my sophomore year of high school, it was so hot that the cymbal section made eggs on a pair of cymbals. We let it sit out on the field for about a half an hour. We were gonna go for a cinnamon roll (from those Pillsbury tubes) but we didn't think it'd go over that well. By the way, the eggs turned out great.
  13. QUOTE (PlayOboe @ Sep 4 2007, 09:38 PM)Didn't Friendswood do Mahler in '05? Ooh, I remember Keller's Phillip Sparke show. Poteet did Sparke the same year and Poteet and Keller were the last two bands to march in state finals. That was bizzare. My mistake, typo. They did Mahler's Symphony No. 1, 2, 4, & 5 in 2005. How can I forget that show? Impressive repertoire. The Maze was their '04 show. It wasn't a 4A State year but I really liked it.

  15. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Sep 3 2007, 10:10 AM) until Westfield starts winning stuff soon i cant really consider them one of the best bands in texas, i mean ya they made 1st at gnats in 2003 and did very well in the 90's but for the past 5 years or so i havent really seen anything from them I know this is a marching band discussion but..... While the Spring ISD schools, Spring & Westfield, have "slipped" over the years in marching band, those two schools still have some of the best concert band programs in the country. Which translates to the bands sounding fantastic on the field. Their overall designs may not be there, but their music execution is still top notch. Spring was a Honor Band Finalist this past year coming in 5th, while both Spring & Westfield were Honor Band Finalists in 2005 coming 2nd and 5th, respectively.
  16. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Sep 3 2007, 10:11 PM)i thought BOA SA didnt start till like 2002 or something Bands of America has held Regionals in Texas since the 1980's. Other than Houston, Arlington & San Antonio, BOA used to host Regionals in Conroe, Waco, Fort Worth, & Denton in the 1980s and early 90s. Also, Arlington didn't come about until the 2001 season. As pointed out earlier, the San Antonio Regional has been around since the mid-1990's. It just didn't become an annual late season BOA Regional until the 2002 season, as Houston was the late season Regional in Texas several years prior to that. In 2003, BOA began the 'Super Regional' format, and decided to host the first ever Super Regional in San Antonio. The event was so successful that BOA decided to not only make the Super Regional an annual event in Texas, but in St. Louis, Missouri & Atlanta, Georgia (starting in 2004) as well.
  17. Beautiful picture but it's way too big for a signature.
  18. QUOTE (bossman @ Aug 31 2007, 08:04 AM) Im gonna bite on this one too. from what the person posted, it seems as if someone from Reagan is writing their drill. BUT i know for a fact that it's not Kevin Nix, and I'm not very fond of the idea that Mark Chambers is writing drill for high schools now. I also dont beleive that it could be Chambers, becuz i was always under the impression of Nix doing drill at Reagan. Baffled* How are you not fond of Mark Chambers designing drill? I hope it's not because he's in drum corps now. Mark is still currently active in the marching band activity as an adjudicator, clinician for Youth Education in the Arts, and designer. Mark has written drill for many years even before he worked at Ronald Reagan. He collaborated with Kevin Nix with the drill design and visual concepts for Ronald Reagan's marching shows while he was the head director.
  19. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Aug 29 2007, 09:38 PM)omg hes not that director there anymore? Mark Chambers left his position at Ronald Reagan HS this past school year in order to work full-time for the Crossmen. Mark Koehl, former assistant at Reagan, is now the head director. It's not much of a change. Koehl had a large role with the band during the marching band season.
  20. QUOTE (Vegiphobe @ Aug 29 2007, 03:51 PM) Also, Mansfield's third movement is Hide an Seek by Imogen Heap as well. It's still a lot different than The Woodlands show last year. It's hard to describe heh. You'll just have to hear it. The beginning of the movement starts off with a six person sax ensemble at the front of the field that will really sound cool (I may be a bit biased, heh) and ends with a flute solo. The last movement is an arrangement of Imogen Heap music. Just wait and see it. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. You guys are playing my favorite songs. Whitacre's 'Lux' is my favorite symphonic piece. Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek' is my favorite song followed by her 'Let Go.'
  21. QUOTE (marcomac29 @ Aug 28 2007, 07:31 PM) yes we are. Very cool. Hopefully I'll get to see the show. Frou Frou's 'Let Go' is one of my favorite songs, ever.
