  2. QUOTE (crazyjakeup @ Jul 29 2007, 06:50 PM)was there a cute girly??? Yeah, the girl's name was Rain. Joking aside.... It was because of the rain soaked field that year at the Baylor Stadium. Hence, the reason why State was moved to the Alamodome after 2002.
  3. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Jul 28 2007, 11:51 PM)what did churchill place with that show in 2002 wasnt it that anime show? which 7 bands are going ? Yeah, it was the Anime show. Winston Churchill placed 10th in 2002. And, Clear Brook, L.D. Bell, Mabank, Richland, Ronald Reagan, Stephen F. Austin, & The Woodlands are attending Grand Nationals this year. You can find additional info at: http://www.bands.org/public/events/regionals/ QUOTE (takigan @ Jul 28 2007, 12:05 AM)Has Richland made GN Finals before? I dunno....they're good, but they never struck me as a GN Finalist-level band. Yeah, Richland placed 7th at Grand Nationals in 2005. They had a fantastic show (Inside Out) that year.
  4. Texas has always had a high percentage of bands making Finals. The most that the state has ever had in Finals was four (in 2002 & 2006). Six bands from Texas were in attendance during those years as well. 2002: Haltom HS Ronald Reagan HS Spring HS Stephen F. Austin HS The Woodlands HS Winston Churchill HS 2006: Cypress Falls HS James Bowie HS John B. Connally HS L.D. Bell HS The Woodlands HS Winston Churchill HS In addition, 2007 will be the most that Texas will have at Grand Nationals with seven bands.
  5. Thoughts on the DCI San Antonio show are up on my blog. http://michaelbui.blogspot.com
  6. Very short thoughts on the DCI Houston competition before I head out for San Antonio: Boston Crusaders had a very enjoyable show. They received a nice reaction from the crowd. I'm still a little puzzled on the Picasso theme though. They could've went a different direction with the show concept. Maybe something more Latin? The Blue Stars were LOUD. I didn't expect them to produce volume like that. I was blown by away by their sound. Seattle Cascades brought back memories of my high school days when they did Philip Glass' "V2 Schneider." SCV rocked the house. Things just clicked for them tonight....everything from the music to the visual. What a show. The Cavaliers were fantastic as well. Although, a couple of guys tripped and fell on the 50. Ouch. The Cavaliers also performed their new ending for the first time, but you can tell they just learned it. It was very sloppy. Overall, it was a very enjoyable night of drum corps in Houston. The Berry Center is a BEAUTIFUL venue. I still can't believe it's a high school stadium. I love how the stadium is intimate. I was sitting in the upper deck and it felt like I was sitting inches away from the sideline.

  15. Since the Skramp's Marching Band mp3 website and TexasBands media section shut down back in November, a lot of you have been asking about it. What happened? Where did it go? Will it ever be back? While I do not know the future of media on TexasBands, here is a post from "Skramp", his real name escapes my mind right now, from the Music for All/Bands of America Forums regarding the situation of his website. (http://forums.bands.org/vb/showthread.php?t=29895) QUOTE Ok, so I've resisted and wrestled with posting this for a while now, but I figured now is a good time as we are nearing a new season. I'm sure most of you are wondering why the site went down and I'm sure everyone is in withdraw because I can't provide their fix anymore, so I figured it's about time I let everyone in on why the site is gone and some other serious things that need to be said, so pay attention and please read this entirely. First, let me say that the site NEEDED to be removed. I can prove this with one sentence that still haunts me....I almost, single-handedly shut down BOA. Becuase the site existed, it caused numerous problems that almost caused the collapse of an organization we hold so dear. Now, before you start screaming, let me explain. Because of the site I had, it allowed those people with nothing better to do an outlet to find things to sue about. They were able to easilt access all the videos and audio and find anyone who played something they didn't have rights to and therefore bring numerous claims against BOA for profiting off of something they were never given permission to distribute. I have felt horrible for months and that's why I haven't posted all that much since Nationals. But, I feel that I owe everyone an explanation since the site just disappeared instantly. We wont get into how I found out this information, but lets just agree it's valid and very understandable. Now, I'm reaching out to everyone here and everyone you know. I did a search on YouTube the other night and found almost 500 BOA videos on there. I don't want to sound like a parent or anything, but if you have any videos posted there that are direct rips of BOA videos, PLEASE remove them instantly!!! Or if you know someone who has them there or is going to upload them soon, PLEASE direct them not to follow thru. This is just giving more fuel to the fire. We need to ban together and stop this in it's tracks. As long as those videos are out there for anyone to view, the lawsuits and problems will keep coming. And those lawsuits will eventually lead to BOA closing. I'm sure that some people will scoff at all this and not believe it and that's fine, but just know that if that's your attitude, you had better start supporting the USSBA because that's all you're going to have in the future. Now, you don't need to remove all band videos from YouTube or related sites, just those that are direct rips off of any BOA video. If you have a practice or football game video, you can post it at your own risk, but be warned that you could bring unwanted attention to whatever group you are publicizing. Again, not meaning to sound like a parent, but right now there is a lot of coporate music type people out there with nothing better to do than hunt down marching bands who perform their music without the proper rights or clearances, then go after them for damages. It's a sick sad world we live in right now where everyone wants the almighty dollar and they don't care who they destroy in the process of getting it. If you are a fan, alumni or involved in the activity, you will understand the seriousness of the situation and act accordingly. We need to stop giving these coporate music people any type of "ammo" to use against and start striving to make the activity the best it can be. I am sincerely sorry to everyone in BOA for what my website almost caused for the activity. I hope I can be forgiven and welcomed back in the fold by everyone and we can continue to grow an outstanding activity. I just ask that before anyone or anyone you know posts another video, ask yourself if you really think it's worth it? I know we all want to see PCEP '99, Spring '93 and so many others, but let's take a break from posting things on public sites that only lead to problems. This is a very serious situation that needs to be dealt with courteously and responsibly and no matter if you are freshman, senior, alumni or parent, let's all agree to put an end to the file sharing. It's something that needs to stop, not for me, not for you, but for everyone. Thank you, Skramp

  17. All DCI scores go here.
  18. Check out the full description of the 2007 Crossmen music that Aaron Guidry posted on his website at http://www.yataforluda.com/crossmen.htm He also posted a link to the MIDI file of the Crossmen's show. Try listening to the MIDI while reading the description at the same time. It's pretty neat. Being a huge Aaron Guidry fan, his composition and arrangement of the Crossmen's show does not disappoint. One of my favorite parts of the show....the "Deep in the Heart of Texas" snippet that leads into the "Russian Christmas Music" statement in the opener and the ballad which is from DJ Food's "The Crow".
  19. Some of them are hit and miss for me. Carolina Crown, Phantom Regiment, Santa Clara Vanguard and The Cadets all have fantastic shows. I love the overall concept of Crown's show. I love minimalist music on the field so hearing Phantom's version of Philip Glass' "1000 Airplanes on the Roof" is refreshing. SCV has one of the most musical shows of the year. And, The Cadets music is just great, although I can do without the narration. Bluecoats and Blue Devils are so-so to me and I can't get into the Cavaliers show at all. I love the entire first movement of the Blue Devils show but it just kind of drops off after that....just like last year's Godfather show. And, I expected a "darker and meaner" show from the Bluecoats. Their show to me is half fun and half dark. It's a great show. But, when I think of something like Criminal, I think of a show similar to the 2000 Blue Devils. But overall, it's a great season for drum corps.
  20. QUOTE (Fortisimo @ Jul 6 2007, 11:56 PM) LMAO, I told ya'll, a Billy Joel show? Cavs just **** themselves. This has good and bad points: Good- Cavs aren't gonna win this year, leaving it open to fresh meat. It looks like Blue Coats are going nicely, but then so was SCV at the very beginning. It all remains to be seen. Bad- you can't read as much into this as you might want. Although it looks like other corps are doing better, while they may in fact be, the fact is that this perception is skewed because the Cavs are doing much worse due to their pathetic show concept, thus making others look even better in relation. It would be interesting to see the Bluecoats do really well, though. I'm still on the Cadets' side, myself. I don't care for the Cavaliers show either but the Centerville, OH scores are old. It's from Monday to be exact. Cavaliers leaped over the Bluecoats big time tonight in Indiana. Michigan City, IN - 7/6/07 Division I 1 The Cavaliers 84.450 2 Bluecoats 82.950 3 Glassmen 74.850 4 Colts 74.250 5 Blue Stars 72.750 Lawrence, MA - 7/6/07 Division I 1 The Cadets 84.400 2 Phantom Regiment 83.500 3 Carolina Crown 83.100 4 Blue Knights 76.850 5 Boston Crusaders 76.050 6 Crossmen 72.050 Buffalo, NY - 7/6/07 1 Santa Clara Vanguard 84.450 2 Spirit from JSU 76.100 3 Southwind 71.650 4 Madison Scouts 69.700 5 Cascades 69.100 6 Troopers 68.650 Current Standings as of 7/6/07 1. 84.80 - Blue Devils 2. 84.45 - Cavaliers & Santa Clara Vanguard 4. 84.40 - The Cadets 5. 83.50 - Phantom Regiment 6. 83.10 - Carolina Crown 7. 82.95 - Bluecoats 8. 76.85 - Blue Knights 9. 76.10 - Spirit from JSU 10. 76.05 - Boston Crusaders 11. 74.85 - Glassmen 12. 74.25 - Colts 13. 72.75 - Blue Stars 14. 72.05 - Crossmen 15. 71.70 - Pacific Crest 16. 71.65 - Southwind 17. 71.05 - The Academy 18. 69.70 - Madison Scouts 19. 69.50 - Mandarins 20. 69.10 - Cascades 21. 68.65 - Troopers 22. 64.65 - Pioneer
  21. QUOTE (the terminator @ Jun 26 2007, 11:18 PM) I guess they decided to incorporated it, and where is this school from? Tarpon Springs HS is in Florida.
  22. The show was only controversial at the beginning of the season. Here's what happened: At their Prelims performance at the 2001 BOA Orlando Regional. which I might add was held on September 29, 2001, Tarpon Springs held up banners (during the "Adagio for Strings" part of the show) that had images of the World Trade Center's being attacked. While some at the stadium were grabbed by the emotional statement of the image, it didn't go over too well with the majority of the crowd. Think about it....the 9/11 attacks happened two weeks prior to the competition. The worst disaster in United States history just happened and the last thing you want to see is a picture of the World Trade Center on fire on a football field, especially during a piece such as "Adagio for Strings." We all know how dark and emotional that piece is. While I'm sure the Tarpon Springs staff had good intentions, the 9/11 stuff was just too soon. Way too soon. I remember my friend calling me right after Tarpon's Prelims performance and telling me that a bunch of people gasped when the WTC images appeared during the show. He said people were crying, angry, offended, and etc. After all the flack that the band received at and after BOA Orlando, they redesigned that portion of the show and replaced all of the 9/11 related material with the chairs from the Oklahoma City bombing memorial. That's why you don't see any mention of the 9/11 attacks on the BOA Grand Nationals tape.
  23. Our very own Crossmen performed its first competition of the 2007 competitive season and posted an impressive 68.00. At the moment, this has the Crossmen in the 12th-14th place position. Toledo, OH June 23, 2007 1. 78.55 - The Cavaliers 2. 78.35 - Bluecoats 3. 69.45 - Glassmen 4. 68.00 - Crossmen 5. 63.25 - Troopers 6. 62.35 - Southwind
  24. Alright, I decided to check my playlist charts and stuff and.... I've listened to L.D. Bell's 2006 show 409 times, followed by The Woodlands 2006 at 171. I'm such a marching band junkie.
  25. I've had last.fm for a while. It's pretty cool stuff. http://www.last.fm/user/mbui/ And Sara, you've been added!
