  1. Looks like they're staying home.... http://www.cavaliers.org/cgi-bin/news.pl?c...howstory&id=747 2007 Summer Tour Plans Change Cavalier Board Cancels Europe Tour Thursday, January 18th, 2007 - 11:38 PM The Cavaliers have decided to forgo their planned June, 2007 competitive tour to Europe and will remain in the United States, beginning their summer competitive schedule on Saturday, June 16, in Annapolis, MD. The corps had hoped to confirm the trip in September, 2006, however extended the decision to January, 2007 because of the difficulty encountered by promoter Rob van Konigshoven, who had been developing the series of competitive events. The delay of the September confirmation was caused by interference from the overwhelming presence of the summer 2006 World Cup events in Europe. The corps' board of directors felt that continuing attempts to secure sponsorship for the European portion of the summer tour at this time were not in the best interest of The Cavaliers, the European corps which had expressed their interest or intent, as well as the overall success of the events being planned. The Cavaliers are extremely disappointed that they will not be able to perform with the corps who had expressed interest, as the experience would have developed life-long memories for all involved. They are, however, hopeful that such a venture can be accomplished in the future. The corps wishes to thank Rob van Konigshoven for his hard work, commitment and dedication to the project. A new 2007 appearance schedule for The Cavaliers will be posted in the coming weeks here and at DCI.org. Please watch for it.
  2. QUOTE (barisaxy08 @ Jan 18 2007, 07:40 AM) so what competition will most of these bands go to if they don't go to state? Bands of America During non-state years, the line-up for the BOA San Antonio Super Regional is generally strong compared to State years.
  3. Awesome! I get to vote for two of my favorite shows of all-time.... L.D. Bell 2006 L.D. Bell 2005

  7. QUOTE (Danpod @ Jan 11 2007, 09:35 PM) The hot shower I took immediately after getting out of the pool was one of the greatest showers I have ever taken. Yeah, and I had to use the same shower later that night. Boy you left it dirty!
  8. QUOTE (bluebellbrass07 @ Jan 11 2007, 09:09 PM) Well I wasn't there, and sadly Mike Bui's camera died right before the even occured. But apparently Dan jumped into a pool (not wearing much......and in about 40 degree weather) and came out 50 bucks richer :X Note to self: Bring extra batteries.
  9. My $.02..... 1. Extension of warm-up: Yes. 2. Raise membership from 135 to 150: Yes. 3. Props people not included in corps membership limit: No. 4. Inclusion of electronic instruments: Undecided. 5. Postioning of Visual Performance Judge: No. 6. Ordinals decided placement at contests: No. 7. Overall Effect judges: No. 8. Percussion adjudication: No. Two rule proposals that I really do not want to see passed are the ordinals deciding the placement at competitions and the Overall Effect judges replacing the General Effect Music & Visual judges. Not a fan of the ordinal system. UIL, anyone? No need to go further. As for OE & GE, I like the way the current General Effect caption is broken up. You have a judge with an emphasis on visual design judging Visual General Effect and a judge with an emphasis on music judging Music General Effect. I don't think I would feel comfortable with a visual judge giving commentary on music and vice versa. In my opinion, I like the DCI judging system the way it is. I view it as a model for the marching arts. I believe marching shows should be scored 40/30/30 with General Effect weighing 40% of the total score and Music/Visual Performance weighing 30% each. I hope nothing drastic happens.
  10. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Jan 9 2007, 04:25 PM) ugh noooo im not talking about churchill!!! like tarpon springs show was something about running a marothon and he was describing the miles and he was like "Mile 7" then you hear a click (obviously a mistake) and the band keeps playing after like 30 seconds he says "mile 7" and continues the speech My mistake. I thought you were talking about the BOA announcer when you said announcer.
  11. QUOTE (Xenon @ Jan 9 2007, 03:01 PM) Edit: I've also been cleaning all of the Spam off of the TxBPress site. . . Word to that. I know one of my articles have somewhere around 40-50 spam replies.
  12. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Jan 8 2007, 07:29 PM) no they had like a voiceover. and he started talking early and then you hear a click then after some playing from the band he starts over That was Winston Churchill and it was part of the show. The first announcement that you heard wasn't the real BOA announcer. It was a voiceover OF an announcer to make it seem like the show was over when it really wasn't. It was part of the deception theme of the show...hence their show title, Deception of Perception.
  13. QUOTE (LdTrumpetWailer @ Jan 8 2007, 06:02 PM) what do you mean with reagan shows? I believe this year they used a lot of Bell 04' and I only say this cause I was in it. even the dresses were practically the same. sorry, not meant tot be angry just a observation. Check out Ronald Reagan 2004 & 2005 and Broken Arrow 2006. Lots of similiarities....both groups use Aaron Guidry as their music arranger. The climax of Broken Arrow's ballad was also the trumpet solo from Reagan's 2005 opener and BA's closer "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" was also Reagan's 2004 opener.
  14. Here you go: http://www.duncanville.k12.tx.us/band/DMI.HTM
  15. Avon & Center Grove use them as well.
  16. LD Bell 2006 - "The Remaining" VS Westfield 2003 - "Because We Are" Spring 1993 - "The Music Of Paul Hindemith" VS Richland 2005 - "Inside Out" L.D. Bell 2005 - "Ascension" VS Ronald Reagan 2003 - "Beyond Perimeters" Marcus 2006 - "The Choral Reef" VS L.D. Bell 2004 - "Blue"
  17. You can't compare scores from year to year. Different level of competition, different judging panels and etc etc. So many factors come into play. Not only has the marching band activity changed so much over the past decade but scoring in BOA has changed a lot over the years. Judges are not as generous with their numbers. I highly doubt Lassiter 1998 would even score a 97.55 today. That show was nowhere close to clean.
  18. QUOTE (gavinrh @ Jan 7 2007, 11:21 PM) well...apparently the band would score higher if you take what Broken Arrow did with old reagan shows Hah, good one.
  19. Westfield also didn't march tenors in 2003.
  20. Yeah, I can't name any off the of my head either. For some reason contras are fairly common in the Midwest.
  21. Then again.... Richland 2005 was paired up with Winston Churchill 2006, not L.D. Bell 2005. So this makes the entire discussion void.
  22. QUOTE (whitewing09 @ Jan 3 2007, 01:22 PM) i dont get it what do they do? The L.D. Bell directors usually pump their fists in the air or jump up and down during the end of their performances. It's pretty amusing. But then again, the emotion is contagious. I would be doing it too. Although, I can't say that I haven't.....
  23. QUOTE (gavinrh @ Jan 2 2007, 08:17 PM) Ronald Reagan 2003 - "Beyond Perimeters" (94.30) 2nd Place Grand Nats Finals not too hot on their SA performance, but come on...plume condoms! Check out their Grand National Finals performance. It was fantastic.
  24. This about sums it up......
  25. While I understand $100 dollars is a bit steep for some you have to think about it this way.... The best produced DVD's come from where? Bands of America, Drum Corps International & Winter Guard International. I would rather spend the money on a high quality product rather than the cheaper and poorly produced DVD's that Vestige Video produces for the UIL State Championships. The State DVD's are a joke. If you want a good product, you're going to have to pay for it.
