He's from Richland. They did iShow and performed after Cypress falls. Sharyland was the one that did Romeo and Juliet and they went on right before Cypress Falls.

Make your own drill
mbui replied to bluebellbrass07's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Not the most perfect thing in the world (then again it's not Pyware or hand written drill) and I'm a novice, but I messed around with this drill game for a few minutes last night and earlier today. I created my first one last night called Square One. And, another one a few hours ago called Imagination. -
It was the ENTIRE band (excluding drumline and tubas).

next year(state for 5a)

Let Go is an awesome song. One of my favorites along with The Moment I Said it, Speeding Cars, and Hide and Seek. After The Woodlands did Hide and Seek in 2006 for their show, the band warmed up and stretched out to Imogen Heap's music during their rehearsals this year. Here's a video of the band warming up to The Moment I Said It. It's pretty neat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljn6jPEpNNo -
Uniforms

By the way, right after you posted...I added in a link to a video of Broken Arrow in my original post so you can check the uniform effect in action. -
Uniforms
mbui replied to MaverickBand15's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Marian Catholic HS from Illinois did the woodwind in white pants and brass in black for a few years in the early 2000s. With Broken Arrow, their pants were white AND black. Their uniform is pictured below: Broken Arrow's uniform is just a simple pallet---black and white. But to me, the uniform adds effect, depth, and a sense of elegance to their shows. I highly recommend watching their 2004 (Pure Imagination), 2005 (2-4-6-0-1 Les Miserables), and 2006 (Aqua) shows to get the full effect of the uniform. Here's a short video if anyone is interested. It's not the greatest quality but the visual is still there. The video is from their amazing 2004 "Pure Imagination" show. The black and white visual comes in at around the :18-20 second mark. Unfortunately, Broken Arrow did away with the black and white pants just a few weeks prior to Grand Nationals and marched all black pants at Grand Nationals. Someone from Oklahoma said it was because a judge at the BOA St. Louis Super Regional harped on them about it because the black/white pants made the band extremely dirty, visually. I kind of wish they left the black/white pants in regardless because the show lost a little appeal to me at Grand Nationals without the black and white combination and the band was still dirty with the black pants. -

Favorite Shows of 2007
mbui replied to itsstephenyo's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
My favorites Texas shows of the year..... Brazoswood HS - "Rain" Just a well thought out musical package. The intro from "The Passion of the Christ" did it for me. Very emotional. Clear Brook HS - "RePercussion" They played two of my favorite John Mackey pieces---Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night & Turbine. L.D. Bell HS - "TRANSCENDents" A musical and visual production. Everything about the show was gorgeous. Mansfield HS - "Music of Eric Whitacre & Imogen Heap/Frou Frou" (can't remember the title for the life of me) Any show that combines Whitacre's "Lux Aurumque" and music from Imogen Heap and Frou Frou will be one of my favorites. Marcus HS - "Botanika" I really enjoyed Marcus' show this year. My highlight of the program was during their ballad from Leonard Bernstein's "Make Our Garden Grow." Richland HS - "iShow" Great musical and visual design. Not only were the John Mackey and Karl Jenkins pieces fantastic but the color guard was as well. Stephen F. Austin HS - "Mass: A Piece for Players and Dancers" An emotional, classy, elegant, and beautiful show using music from Leonard Bernstein's "Mass". One of my favorites of the year. The Woodlands HS - "Sequenza" A well thought out show and I love how they incorporated Philip Glass' music from "Einstein on the Beach" and "The Hours" with Bernstein's "Profonation." Westfield HS - "One" I loved the music to the and how they used "One" concept in their music and throughout the show. I also liked the color guard uniforms where it had the word "One" written in all different languages. -
Once again, I did my score sheets at Grand Nationals. I only did Semifinals this time around instead of Prelims and Finals. I like to "play" judge sometimes. I like to sit back, watch the shows from every possible angle, put down my numbers, and then compare them to the actual results. I write down all of my numbers after each band has performed using the actual recap and judging criteria of the respective circuit. The difference between my recap is that I show how I arrive at the actual score for each subcaption--something that BOA doesn't show on their actual recap. If you weren't in Indianapolis for Grand Nationals, you missed a great one. There were a lot of great shows this year. The 13-18th place bands in Semis could have been Finalists in any other year. Very impressive showing by a lot of the groups. Congratulations to all of the Grand National participants, Class Champions, Semifinalists, Finalists, and this year's Grand National Champion, L.D. Bell HS. Remember, that these recaps are for entertainment purposes only. Actual recaps of Grand Nationals can be found on the Music for All website at http://musicforall.org Disclaimer: I missed out on Columbus North HS and Fred J. Page HS during Semifinals because I was in dire need for some food. I put their actual scores up against the numbers on my sheets.

GN Semis Announcements and Finalists

Just got back from the RCA Dome.... What a weekend it has been for marching band. You missed something special if you didn't get to come. Congratulations to all of the Semifinalists, Class Champions, and Grand National Champion, L.D. Bell HS. I was on the field (literally two feet away from the pit) during their encore performance and seeing the emotion that the kids poured out is something I will never forget. What a great and classy organization. I have pictures of Prelims on my Facebook. I'll have Semis and Finals pics sometime on Sunday or Monday when I get back to Texas. I also took a pic with the Texas flag and the L.D. Bell drum majors which I'll also put up soon. -
GN Prelims Times for TX Bands

http://www.ldbellband.org/info/htmltonuke....anscendents.htm From LDBellBand.org: Our next show will be on Friday, November 16th at 8:45AM in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, IN at the Bands of America Grand National Championships (Prelims). This will be version 3 of 4. --- That picture is just unreal. Brings back memories of BOA San Antonio when I saw the show. I cannot wait to see fourth and final version. -
Just got back from Stephen F. Austin's Grand Nationals send-off performance.... They looked and sounded GREAT. Should be in the running for a Finalist spot. Can't wait for Indy. (Angels Dance Team doing their thing) (End of ballad.) (Drumline rockin') (...again) (Final push in their show.) (End of show.)

BOA San Antonio Finals Results
mbui replied to Serardian's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
If you want to know what your Percussion section got, ask your band director for the "Music Performance: Individual" judging sheet. The 50 points for Percussion at BOA falls under the "Music Performance: Individual" caption. The scores for the MPI caption is broken down like this: 75 points = Brass 75 points = Woodwinds 50 points = Percussion 200 = possible points Unfortunately, BOA does not release the scores for the subcaptions within the caption on their contest score recaps (something I wish they would do). They just publish the TOTAL score for the caption. -
Yeah, saw their website yesterday and it's looking nice.
