2025 BOA Round Rock (Sept. 20)

Westwood HS-Red: missed everything but the ballad and a little before bc my steam cut out but what I heard I liked. Some tuning issues in the brass but Ik it’s very hot and early season so not a worry. Visually very appealing, just wish I heard more bc it sounded like some fun stuff at the start. Either way great job Westwood! -

Dripping Springs HS-Walala: Taking Joy Seriously: What an awesome show!!! DS is not messing around this year, they want a finals spot at nats, and they might get one this year. So much contrast in style and dynamics, lots of entrances and exits between soloist and the full ensemble, just so much music variety. Visually very pleasing as well, great use of the props, they are absolutely cooking this year. Amazing job tiger band!! -

Round Rock HS- spark of imagination: What a fun show, and boy do they pack a punch of sound!! Loved the opener with the the small ensemble leading into the French horn feature. Plenty of GE throughout, love the drill. I’m wondering how the judges will interpret the show but I thought it was portrayed wonderfully. Great job RR!! -

Cedar Ridge- The Beholder: Oh. My. Lord Cedar Ridge. Already in love with this show. Pines of Rome is some of my favorite source music and they are just making it their own. Visually so much detail, love the opener with the drumline but yeah wow that had medal potential fs, wonderful job Raider band!! -

Gatesville HS- the home we’ve built: Very solid performance! Loved the musical selections and the execution was solid. Some tuning/balance issues, but I think some of that is the micing. Visually strong as well, great job G-Ville!! -

Belton HS- Between the storms: Holy sound!!! For being on the smaller side of 5A, they don’t sound like it. Soloist were lovely, a couple spacing issues drill wise but yeah they put up a fight for that 12th spot, amazing job Belton! -

Krum HS- ring: For those early they sounded fantastic. Soloists were strong all around, loved that trumpet solo. Drill is not super complicated but fairly clean, and GE is kinda there, but I could see them finally making state with this show, and def could win A today. Amazing job Krum! -

Centennial will not be that low. Would be shocked if they’re not top 3 unless they’ve fallen off but overly to tell -

Well since I can’t go to Melissa anymore, I’ll be watching all of prelims instead on Box, so I’m very excited for the weekend. Anyways, here’s my guess: 1. Vista Ridge (music/GE) 2. Vandy (visual) 3. Rouse 4. Cedar Park 5. Cedar Ridge 6. Dripping Springs 7. Leander 8. Westlake 9. Round Rock 10. Lake Travis 11. Westwood 12. McCallum I have no clue how this will turn out. I could it going soooo many ways, and the gaps are my somewhat interchangeable preds. Vista has really impressed me so far and honestly seem to be a big cleaner than Vandy rn. I think GE will be the thing that may hurt CP the most, but musically and visually very strong. Haven’t seen Rouse but u know. Very excited for Saturday and hope everyone has a great week of rehearsal!! -
