Westwood is playing McNeil on the Friday night of SASR. McNeil is performing at 5:45pm and Westwood is performing at 6:45pm at SASR. There's no way either of these two bands are going to be at that football game in Austin.
And neither band are going to the football game.

5 million years ago, there were no band fees. At the same time, we only rehearsed in summer for a few hours a day, and then after school from 3:30 to 5. We learned competition drill and learned a new drill for football games. During football games, we took the 3rd quarter to hit up the snack bar to eat. Fast forward to now. Band fees for some schools are $1500, which includes paying for drill, shoes, meals and more. I know that at my old high school, the boosters feed their band kids hot dogs and chips because that's all they can afford.
This is why I like UIL. All the elaborate props and singers don't really fool the UIL judging process. March clean and have a great sounding show and you can make it to state. It literally evens out the playing field for bands who don't have the money to pour in. Lots of band boosters work their butts off for these kids. And to the kids reading this, NONE OF THIS IS YOUR FAULT! You guys are awesome...so always remember that.

So will 6 make it to State or 5?

Being called beaner is nothing new. I remember when I was in high school (big 5A school from the Valley when 5A was the biggest thing) and we were called beaners by San Antonio Taft football and band members. It happened to me..it wasn't a rumor, I was the victim. Biggest difference was that we were expecting it because our band director warned us. We took it in stride. Its now 30 years later and people still say stupid stuff all of the time. People talk crap about you when they are afraid of you. JBA is coming now becoming a powerhouse band, along with Roma. Expect trash ignorant talk from idiots who don't know any better. And, when its all said and done, feel sorry for ignorant people. At the end of the day, it's their loss and their ignorance that will catch up to them.

Also from what I understand, Bowie is not competing here. They are attending BOA Waco and don't have Area or State on their calendar at all.
Well that's helpful to Westwood and Hays.

I have high hopes for cedar ridge that a 2019 doesn’t happen again
the fact that Round Rock, Cedar Ridge and Westwood were so darn close...
....and the fact that Cedar Ridge and Westwood were in the same block with the same set of judges....
UGH IT STILL MAKES ME ANGRY

The bands already know when they are performing. Here is hoping that some bands don't get screwed like they did in 2019

On snap...that's right.

I want it too

Leander ISD bands all get awards except Vista. That must be a first.

Rouse was stunning

This is going to be a great event. I'm looking forward to going and not being attached to a band. I am going to try hard to be objective when viewing the bands. I can't wait to see Vista Ridge and Leander because I love them. I can't wait to see how Round Rock would have improved from Festival of Bands. I'm looking forward to Bowie and CTJ of course. I'm also looking forward to Vandergrift because they simply are the classiest band out there. And of course, I'm looking forward to Westwood with all of their props out there.
Being able to go and spend all day there is gonna be great!

OMG I'm sorry. My comment wasn't even meant to be a criticism. I'm beyond mad at the district for not putting more resources to help this band out. These poor kids kill themselves at practice every single day and they deserve SO MUCH MORE than what they are getting right now.
I am so very sorry if my comment was taken personally. It was not meant to be that way and I got super busy to be able to respond.
BTW, the new unis are stunning. The light color tops really pop on the field.

Festival of Bands was last night. I'm no longer a band mom and just a band spectator. If I were to rank the Round Rock ISD bands it would go down like this:
- Cedar Ridge
- Westwood
- Round Rock
- McNeil
- Stony Point
Cedar Ridge's show is fun and clean. Their guard is stunning and I caught myself clapping and getting into it from the get go. Their music is spot on and just so relatable. The drill design is perfect. They are a finals lock for sure, and I see great things for them this year.
Westwood is a cute fun show. They have their opener nailed. They "sounded," the best out of the bands that were out there. They need to have their percussion follow their drum major.
Round Rock just sounded and looked uninspired. The drill was dirty. Their sound was off for as many kids as they had out there. The show was boring. It was really surprising.
McNeil has so much potential. And Stony Point just needs help so that they can kick butt like the rest of the RRISD bands. THIS ISN'T ON THE KIDS...I SWEAR!

Westwood updated their calendar. This isn't on it. They have the 9th open right now.

My kid will be at college at this point. However she did mention that maybe this could be a Mom/Daughter kind of thing for us to do. I'll yell loud for TeamTexas for sure.

Glad you got your bright spot and congrats to CTJ.
I think this year has sucked like no other. And for my kid it is just a horrible senior year.
Pardon my bitterness.
Right there with you. It makes me so sad and angry for these kids.
