they hit us with a .1 score difference from a different panel💀 didn’t help that we were the first band in panel 2 to go either. should’ve been better that day😔

    Y'all were fabulous.

Let's be real. If I were a judge in that panel, naturally I would reserve some points as to not blow it all in one shot because I'm judging 50 more bands!  It was heartbreaking for you guys, much like Austin that year was heartbreaking for Hendrickson and Round Rock.

Or, the Austin area bands that you are referring to are just that good.  A lot of judges in a lot of competitions as well as many others very familiar with the activity all have similar opinions of those bands. So some sort of unfair evaluation is a tough charge to make stick.

I do wonder why Dripping Springs didn't area with the west Austin/Leander schools this year. Geographically, it only makes sense. Imagine if that had actually happened?

So "hoopla" in the forums from people who don't know the difference makes it a fact? What training or advanced knowledge do you have that the judges obviously did not have? Liking one band over another band does not make their score higher. There is a technical reason that a band receives the score that they do. Maybe you should leave this to the experts.

Maybe I am an expert? 🤪

Talk about chippy. God forbid not everyone sees eye to eye

You should unnecessarily spiteful to other groups. Smile and be happy for the bands that make finals, continue to support and push the bands who didn’t forwards.

No need for this “These bands didn’t deserve to make it” talk. Contrary to what you’re saying it not only does little to uplift the band you think should’ve made it in, but it also hurts the bands who did.

I’m very tired of seeing this.

I wasn't being spiteful.  Spiteful would be me saying, "such and such band sucks and they don't deserve success." I didn't say that. In fact, you don't know what other bands I might have been referring to.

Weren't you the one who unnecessarily called out Westwood in the Area D thread? So if me saying that Cedar Ridge deserved something over others in a year where there show was so freaking amazing is bad, then maybe you should take a nice look in the mirror because you did exactly the same, if not, worse.

If we can't disagree about opinions, which is what all of us have, and most certainly, what the judges have, what's the point of discussing?

For smaller bands 1A/2A/3A having state every year is a boon. There is no way these bands can really compete on the BOA stage, but having the state opportunity every year is a fantastic thing for those programs. Even for those 4A/5A/6A bands that don't have the money to compete with the BOA big boys this is also great news. I know I know people hate hearing the term money, but it plays a role if you like it or not.

Exactly. This was really driven by those programs who are small or simply don't have the budget to put on huge productions.

I saw them and every other band  at that competition and thought both scored where they should have. Like them both, as well, but thought they were scored appropriately.

Respectfully disagree. I saw three of the other bands that did qualify for finals that most certainly didn't do better than at least Cedar Ridge.

There was quite the hoopla here on TX bands when it happened.

I thought that might be a problem when they first implemented the two panel system, but to be honest, I have never seen a band not make finals that should have. Even though the competition is brutal at this venue, I still see enough scoring space between bands to see clear choices made for the finals. I think people get caught up with personally liking a band that didn't make the finals more than they liked the bands that did. I just judge their making the finals by how their performance was able to score in each category and them actually earning their spot. I know it's hard as we all have biases. But if they have earned it, they have earned it.

I saw two. 2019. Cedar Ridge and Westwood. They got screwed over by performing early for panel 2.

It's really the tale of area g, people are mad at results cause of how much the judges are not on the same page, a good example was last year where psja got 1st in visual and 9th in visual for finals.  the judging at area is inherently flawed(everywhere not just area g) and things need to be done to fix it, whether that be the removal of the caption switch or a review of why a judge scored the way they did, whatever needs to be done.

There was wonky stuff all over the place this weekend. So much of it doesn't make sense, but then again that's what happens when you put humans in charge of things.

i feel like maybe dripping springs could get a spot at state this year cause of UIL judges and that they usually do pretty well in uil

Right now, there are 5 bands that have placed ahead of them in various competitions.

    1. Round Rock

    2. Cedar Ridge

    3. Westwood

    4. CTJ

    5. Reagan (Maybe not this band, but come on..its Reagan)

    6. Bowie

This is going to be a tough contest.
