  1. Hey, can I just give MAJOR props to the person who puts out these AMAZING Vista Ridge Ranger Band videos every week? These things are masterpieces in and of themselves!
  2. It wasn't. I was speaking from emotion that day and was obviously wrong. One judge even gave Vista Ridge a 4, so obviously any wonkiness included all of the bands. It worked out in the end.
  3. You are so very blessed to have been in the program for such an extended time period! Neither of my older girls was in band so I had no idea what I was missing. We were fortunate to enter the program at a time of super growth for the LHS band. My baby girl's freshman year was 2013, and they didn't even make finals at San Antonio (tho they were only one spot out which is nothing to be ashamed of). Then we had our breakout year in 2014 which was such an amazing thing to experience. Her Senior year was the band's first trip to Grand Nats in nearly 20 years, so that was an incredible way to cap off our brief experience as an active band family. Now I'm a forever fan!!!
  4. and I used to think you were a Leander High Saxophone.
  5. Thanks for the support, friends. You guys are awesome. I do feel sad if I offended the Westlake band kids tho, so let me again be clear that I am not discrediting their (or anyone’s) hard work. Sometimes I joke around too much and feelings get hurt. You are right about how it’s truly about everyone supporting the arts. How can one NOT appreciate what these kids put out year after year? It’s mind boggling at times. I am awed at the level of musical ability these kids have nowadays. If you had given me some of the music back when I was in band that these kids play today, I would have said, “that is impossible for me to learn.” And that most likely was true! But it’s no longer impossible for today’s band students. The bar has been set extremely high, and these kids are KILLING IT! And then you add in all of these hugely demanding marching shows, and it blows my mind. I’m ready to have my mind blown again this weekend. Is it Friday yet?!
  6. Nahhh, I just don’t see the point in a useless argument. I was teasing in my original comment but I can see how it might have looked bitter to someone who doesn’t know me.
  7. It’s all good. Folks are crazy sensitive right now and that’s to be expected. I apologize if I offended any Westlake band kids here in this forum. They absolutely work as hard as anyone and they deserved to place in the upper tier on Saturday night in Area H. I’m grateful for the rule that allows a fourth band to go if they were given 3s by at least 3 of the judges. It worked out well for both bands.
  8. Hopefully not the same as Area H!
  9. That’s what I’m thinking but I am hoping you can get in on the south end as well. The townhouse we are renting very near there is southwest of the dome and we plan to walk. I guess we can go ahead and walk up to the south side and go around the dome right there beside the structure itself rather than taking the streets all the way around.
  10. Strange question, but do y’all know if you can enter and/or purchase tickets for BOA on both ends of the Alamodome or only on the North side?
  11. Well, VR has a great band program so there’s no need, but if my child was in a local school whose band program was subpar and I had the opportunity to move them to one of the Leander schools, I sure would!
  12. I like to watch high cam for prelims and then go back during finals and watch multi-cam so I can see close ups of my favorite bands.
  13. I actually DID cry at the end of Vista's show Saturday. It was SO GOOD!!!!
  14. That is VERY cool. Poor kids. I read a rant on Facebook recently of a Vista Ridge football mom. She is definitely NOT happy with the coaching staff at Vista. She might have said a few things that she'll regret later.
  15. When we went to GN in 2016, we had one of our Senior trumpets break a hip a few weeks before, among other things, so a freshman had to learn his drill in an insanely short amount of time. A flute sprained her ankle during prelims. A colorguard girl also was injured during prelims. We limped through that weekend, with two in wheelchairs, but Leander still managed to take 6th at GN. It gets crazy towards the end for sure!
  16. That’s too bad. I’m sorry that happened to your band. I know that must have been really tough!
  17. Great job creating a place for yourself there! I hope you get to do it all in the coming years. It’s over in a flash.
  18. I saw that. Very very cool story!
  19. Didn't you get the memo? Nothing else matters this year but Area B! I AM TEASING, PEOPLE! (don't @ me).
  20. I agree with you on that. I miss the maroon as well. I like the changes, but feel like it something is lacking which is probably the maroon cinch!
