UIL July 2019 MAC

just my thoughts - that and $10 will get you some overpriced coffee at starbucks, but - keep in mind that as it has been discussed on other threads over the years. UIL rules are voted on and approved by the members (band directors) - so this change has their blessing. there is a record number of programs that are scheduled to attend BOA SA this year - so it is very popular choice for Texas bands, why would they do something that would destroy that event? if UIL decided to do this in early November at the same time that BOA SA takes place, it would likely be in the dome. the dome is owned by the City of San Antonio and would likely give booking preference to a state body like UIL. will BOA find another location (no dome?) and compete against UIL? do they give up one of the largest events of the season? or do they move the event to follow UIL state and have a grand nats south? I know we have discussed this many times and many disagree, but maybe this may be an overall win. now their is a elevated contest that will still be well attended by Texas Bands - many who may never get a chance to go to GNats. BOASA is bigger than GNats this year - would this make it even bigger? who knows - again just my thoughts - I welcome the thoughts of others -
2019 BOA San Antonio

I think it is a given that CTJ, Hebron, Leander, TWHS, Vandy are locks for finals in any given year - with all of them going to GN this year, you know that they are bringing a big show and one or more should medal here. Hope to see Round Rock in the finals as well. too early to name the rest of finals but we can add FloMo to that list of locks as well. should be a huge season -
It is a great experience for the kids - one that I wish all kids could get a chance to experience - I would say to parents - talk with the director, and understand what their goals are for the program. I was always pushing for a return trip to Indy as a parent as the program grew, I and many of our parents have always known what the goals are to build a bold and balanced program. they made UIL state in the 3rd year of the program, attended GNats in the 4th year and made finals, in 2014 they attended the tournament of roses parade through an extensive application - not a Gnats bid. Many parents were pushing for a return to Indy - but the leadership felt it was better to focus on more than just marching. The Winter Guard went on a win a silver Medal in Dayton, the band continues to grow in Honor band/concert band, had a record number of State musicians and will perform this year at the Midwest Clinic. as discussed many times in the past - there is always the money factor - $400K investment for Indy and not meeting expectations will leave many parents sour on future trips just my thoughts

our camp this week is done my 6pm - we did a meet and greet in the morning for the new parents and I got to watch the kids dancing on the band pad for awhile before lunch. my wife is serving meals at lunch so she gets to check in on him. - so far he is keeping a smile on his face and working through the blisters on his feet.

I get your point - it is expensive for TX Bands to make the trip, but this year it would appear that many of the bands that normally attend - at a much lower cost, as they are closer to Indy are not making the trip - this is one of the smallest fields I have seen in the past 8+ years attending GNats is it because of the Texas Bands that will be there? these are some big hitters that can dominate the top half of the finals and take some medals
