  1. wow - that hurts the argument that Houston is more competitive than Austin
  2. I say Reagan and TWHS would be top contenders of the confirmed group - Vandy and Bowie usually attend this event - so you can not count them out

  4. I doubt that - I still think that Austin is the toughest regional in Texas - a good number in Houston finals would not make it in Austin - no disrespect and just me opinion based on the last few years results.
  5. I know that a lot of he 6A programs design shows that they later sell to other programs - that could include props, flags, and guard uniforms. I wonder if this is the Reagan "Us and Them" show they performed in 2017. I do not recall the music from the show - but it was a great show - took silver at BOA Houston
  6. we live on the JW in San Antonio and love the High Velocity sports bar - just cant reserve any space. the Westin will give a dedicated space in the bar area
  7. My wife and I are staying at the Westin in Indy for Grand Nats 2019 We are thinking that it could be fund to do a #TeamTexas gathering on Friday night after prelims. could be a great time as #TeamTexas prepares for Semi's on Saturday morning (cause we know that all Texas bands will advance) First round of drinks are on me - let me know your thoughts...... Hoping the TXBANDs staff can attend Need to get an idea of the size/scope
  8. look forward to seeing TWHS in Indy - I think we need to create a "gathering" in Indy for TxBand supporters - I will work on that
  9. San Antonio Fiesta last for 2 weeks in April - the "Battle of the Flowers" parade is today - it has been around since 1891. it is a celebration to honor the heroes of the Alamo, Goliad and the battle of San Jacinto. during the 2 weeks of Fiesta there are many events across the city. in many ways, it is a Mardi Gras for families. there are many parades - the river parade (river walk) the "Battle of the Flowers" is today (about 600K attend) it is a school holiday in SA. Fiesta Flambeau is tomorrow - it is a night parade and all the bands wear lights on their hats/uniforms. the Bandfest, done last night, has been going on more that 80 years and is generally done at Alamo Stadium - the "rockpile" - the 35 plus bands march the track and stop in front of the crowd to perform/dance - 3 bands perform a halftime show. VIVA FIESTA
  10. 4,000 students performing on the field together in the "Mass Band" performance - like a retreat but with instruments - love it !!!
  11. I will be there - CTJ is also in the Battle of Flowers Parade on Friday - always a good time - Viva Fiesta
  12. Churchill also performed in the Tournament of Roses parade - 3 of the 4 programs to march in Pasadena from San Antonio have come from NEISD. Churchill marched Macy's a few years ago - Reagan will do Macy's this November. I don't know if Johnson has any desire to do Macys Parade.
  13. I think they have played that for battle of the flowers - but NO
  14. waiting for the sound!! always a fan and cheering for the program - it is your senior year - give it everything you have - it is a time to shine
  15. - I know you are way too young to know the Monty Python movies - but for those that are.... it is good to be the king"
  16. CTJ Music for the season is awesome - just what everyone has come to expect from them -
  17. great points - if we look at some of the programs that have been added in the past decade, - CTJ, Timber Creek, Vista Ridge, Weiss, Rouse, to name but a few - the number of players continues to grow - the playground needs to get bigger
  18. CTJ attended in 2017 with their "Forrest through the Trees" show - it is out on YouTube. The 2019 Rough Rider is scheduled for October 5th 2019 and both Madison and MacArthur are on the schedule. I believe that CTJ may have also attended in their early years in 2008-2010 to get the group experience - the Rough Rider has been around for 35 years - since 1983 - so I am sure that Reagan has attended in their early 80's years - it is close and inexpensive to attend and give the kids a learning experience. CTJ also attended the TMC in Austin in 2012 in Austin when it was a new competition. (swept) - but I do not believe they have returned since
  19. my first instrument was a baritone - started that in 4th grade and also did percussion. as a freshmen in High School, I was moved to Tuba as a shadow and never marched with a sousaphone. the night before the first performance, I was informed that I would march the show. The next day, I had got little help in understanding what I was doing. I put together my white fiberglass sousaphone (yes - this was 1981) and when I attached the bell and started moving on the field, I realized the bell was not straight as it was not screwed together in all 4 spots. I went through the entire show with my bell moving to the right. I would try to straighten it during the show. by the end of the show, the tuba bell was pointing to the right side of my body and playing into someone's ear. I finished that season know as "silly straw" - got an award for it at the band awards that year. Needless to say - I went back to percussion for the remainder of my high school marching career.
  20. Roosevelt has the "Roughrider" competition - that is an NEISD school - it is done at Heroes or Blossom - they have done it for decades and it is a major financial support tool for that school. the challenge is getting a Saturday that does not interfere with football - there are 7 high schools using 2 stadiums - Saturdays are scarce - especially in a state year when UIL region and area is being done at Heroes
  21. Texas Marching Classic is hit or miss on the attendees and how stiff that competition is - HEB has always been solid as the you have some BOA power bands in the area as well as some bands that could be BOA powers that choose not to do BOA - but again, these attendees are based on the fact that it is local and not a major cost for the program - it comes down to money for a road trip with 350+ kids and parents
  22. there are few that attend BOA SA - but only because it is local - they do not attend any of the others. I do not recall in the past 8 years ever seeing any SA bands in Dallas, Houston, or Austin other than CTJ, Reagan, and Churchill. It is also rare to see those 3 BOA programs at the local US Bands or Roughrider competition, etc... just what I have seen but there could be others that I am not aware of
