  1. If you want to get people interested in this you might want to include the day and location of the contest.
  2. The first time I went to the State contest my boys were a sophomore and junior. So we pulled their little sister out of school for the day and drove down to San Antonio with zero expectations. The boys ended up with a bronze medal! And my daughter was hooked! She talked about that day/trip for a long time. And then come her sophomore year she was in the band and won State. Her brothers were thrilled because they knew they were part of building that foundation.
  3. What a great story. And to play off of what is related here... All it takes is a few parents/boosters who really want to make a difference. Go talk to boosters of the more successful programs and ask them about what works. What works to support the directors and take everything possible off of their plates so that they can spend more of their time working with the kids? What works to raise money for the props and techs and clinicians? Band parents are almost as awesome as band kids. Nobody is keeping secrets on how they do things - They will absolutely share their knowledge. Go get it! Keeping those goals in mind and building a culture in the booster program WILL make a difference.
  4. Gate tickets all go to UIL, I believe. Concessions go to the hosts.
  5. @Rubisco that is an affirmative on the Lindsey Vento design.
  6. Yep. So really, there is... Demand Demand within reason Demand compared to others I think you can have a show that is relatively moderate demand and executed extremely well that shows well early in the season and perhaps score over another show that has very high demand that is executed decently. Given time, that second show has more room to outpace the first. It's like a high floor/low ceiling show vs medium floor/high ceiling show I got a little vague there. Apologies.
  7. The UIL does split school districts (take a look at Cy-Fair ISD), but I don't think the TMEA does, which is what matters in this instance.
  8. Three weeks from now it will be happening!
  9. That is Area I. The Area I website doesn't give details about tickets, but you can probably expect to pay $10-$12 for entry. Some Areas are doing online presales, but Area I doesn't appear to give any such info.
  10. All the schedules you keep asking for can be found on threads on this board: https://www.txbands.com/forums/forum/26-upcoming-contests-events-and-festivals/
  11. Yep. Panel 1 looks to have the majority of Finalists.
  12. So, to clarify this post.... I was thinking this was the Area H thread when I posted that. As for State - I think an LISD sweep is entirely possible, but I think Wakeland and Highland Park will both push to break into the medals. Should be a really interesting Finals.
  13. It would be a shocker if it is anything other than those three.

  16. Only three State slots for Area H. 19 1's. Brutal.
  17. Just need 5 of 8 from Region 11.
  18. Region 29 finally posted their schedule for tomorrow: 6:05 - Holmes 6:20 - John Jay 6:35 - Warren 6:50 - Clark 7:05 - Marshall 7:20 - Brandeis 7:35 - Brennan 7:50 - Taft 8:05 - Harlan 8:20 - O'Connor 8:35 - Stevens
  19. I love that quartet, It is so fun. And crazy hard.
  20. It's called gerrymandering. ?
  21. And Vista had an admittedly bad run in Austin Finals this year. They knew it coming off the field. The Prelims run was better. That wasn't the case in '18 or '19. But, certainly, it's a hill to climb. S.A. competition is no joke.
  22. It is always a bit of a crapshoot with Texas bands making the trip up to Indy. Any band with hope of competing for the Eagle has a lot of built-in advantages to overcome compared to the bands from Indiana/Ohio, etc. But if we can keep sending a half dozen San Antonio Finals-worthy bands each year, we will have a shot each year. I think that's what it takes to have an even shot at Kevin making his home in the Lone Star State each offseason.
