  1. Lone Star (Frisco) has also been Improving each year. They went to state last year as well in 5A. Will be curious to see how they do.
  2. I think I found Rowlett and Frisco High School will also be there.
  3. Does anyone know who is attending? Plano East is the only one I know
  4. It's too bad they can't initiate some type of Wild Card drawing that would allow additional bands from some of the tough area competitions to still go to state.
  5. Just a little competition here! Here is a list of bands I figure will be there... but I will need others to add to list as I don't know all the schools in each region. This is a list of who I think will be there... not finals Coppell * Duncanville * Keller * Keller Central * Halcolm * Richland ** Plano Senior * Plano East * Plano West * Timber Creek * LD Bell * Prosper ** Waxahachie ** Martin * Fossil Ridge * Additional 6A Bands (trying to see if we think we can get to 30 bands so we can have 6 advancing to state). I don't know about all of these programs, so not sure if they will all get 1's at Region or not. Region 5: Mansfield * Lake Ridge ** Summitt ** Bowie HS * Arlington HS * Trimble Tech Sam Houston * Lamar * Paschal * Region 31: Carroll Smith * Trinity HS * Region 20: Desoto Skyline Irving * S. Grand Prairie * Nimitz * Cedar hill Region 30 (their UIL site is down so I don't know who all is in this region): Weatherford * MacArthur * Note: * - participated in Area in 2016 ** - new to this region (or moved to 6A)
  6. Wow... that's quite a trip for a Thursday night! Makes that Friday morning pretty rough!
  7. I saw that Plano was playing them! Wish I could have made the game but I had to work too late yesterday. How was the Plano Band? Curious to see what their new uniforms look like.
  8. Anyone attending any Friday football games, oops, I mean the start of the marching band halftime shows this weekend? Trying to decide if I can make the PESH vs LD Bell game to check out halftime myself.
  9. One of the band parents at PESH had posted comments on our internal Facebook page that were from their show "The Bells" back in 2012 (Made by Daniel V and Daniel S). I had to go look up what the TxBands site was and found it. I am probably on it more now than I was back then as I really have no kids left in "the game" at BOA, so I like to hear about all that is going on. My last child is at a Plano school now (Clark HS), but will feed into Plano Senior next year. But I still try and support the PESH band as well as Plano Senior... they aren't as competitive, but they are fun
  10. It is possible, I think many band kids do it. My advice is to be organized and to stay on top of things. Do as much as you can in September on projects that may span the semester as October can be tough with all the competions. Work with the teachers and try to get work ahead of time if band will keep you from class. You can do it!!
  11. I had no idea what BOA really was when my son first started at PESH, which was in 2012 when they made finals. I did not attend that year as I really didn't understand how big it was. They also went to state that year, but I didn't attend that either... again, didn't realize how difficult it was to make state, LOL. That being said, as much as I love the marching band season, seeing my son with the PESH band at Carnegie Hall was by far the best memory I have.
  12. I can see CTJ using them for sure. Funny note on bagpipes.. on youtube search Bear McCreary and Nobody likes Bagpipes. Funny video.. at last I thought so
  13. Can you give us a clue, DFW area band, San Antonio area? Houston... I need specifics, LOL!
  14. Well that will be a quiet game without either band there!
  15. Does anyone know the entry fee is of going to a BOA event versus a local one, like the TOC in Carrollton (Tournament of Champions)? Maybe they might go to another one if it's cheaper, but not attend finals because of homecoming. That way they can still perform their show in the morning and let their kids go to homecoming in the evening? I know the local ones are normally about $400 a band, but I have no idea how much the BOA events cost.
  16. Wow... that is quite the journey the wrong way!
  17. OMG, so sorry about your daughter, I'm glad she is okay. It is really scary though, just driving anywhere these days. My daughter totaled my car about a year ago (a driver ran a red light). That was a new car (2016) with 8500 miles on it. But all the airbags deployed and the front of the car was basically gone (he hit her from the passenger side, towards the front). Make sure you daughter gets checked out. My daughter was sore, and probably had a slight concussion from the airbags, and we could have just left it at that, but she did some physical therapy and chiropractic care for about 3 months afterwards for soft tissue damage to the neck and spine. It's at least worth a visit if you have a trusted chiropractor. Anyway Prayers for a speedy recovery for her!
  18. I agree most of the larger schools probably didn't exist that long! PESH has like 34 years I think, but they weren't even open until 1981 I think. I didn't even think they had marching band contest that far back (80 years, WOW!).
  19. That was a pretty early time for LD Bell last year, like 7:15 am or something!
  20. I am taking Friday off, but will be driving most the day. We bowl Thursday night and just getting hubby to attend BOA is one thing, for two days I don't think he would be go! I think last year he had to work until like 11 am so we didn't get out early enough, maybe I can talk him into leaving at 5 am or something so we can at least get there by 10 am or so. We'll see... I have to work him into it, LOL.
  21. I just can't imagine Flower Mound having to drive all the way back for the football game that night, that's at least a 4-5 hour drive (more in traffic). It just surprised me. I'm not saying schools don't do it, it's most the North Texas schools normally have been on Saturday. I hope they don't have to drive back for the game that night, that would be a pretty brutal schedule for those kids, especially since I can assume they will be doing to state the following week too!
  22. If you tell me they are doing an Outlander theme (with the bagpipes), then I will be their fan Side note, year ago (many, many, years ago), I played in an Open Band during high school. We didn't have State competitions for marching in Wisconsin until after I left school. The open band was like a Drum Corp in that it tooks kids from age 14/15 to 21 (I think) and we competed in the summer in concert, parade, and field show competitions. Anyway, one of our big competitors was a band from Illinois called the Dundee Scots, which marched the bagpipes. you always knew when they were around as you could hear those bagpipes playing for miles! And yes, they marched in kilts There is also what I think they call a Senior Drum Corp out of Wisconsin called the Racine Kiltes, and they still play at events, bagpipes, kilts and all!
  23. That is interesting, I wonder why? Although I will be sorry not to see them Saturday when I am there. Well, I guess I will see them in the finals though!
  24. That sounds fun, never thought of looking into an AirBnb. We are just staying at the Hampton inn, less than a mile away, so within walking distance. We will just see Saturday's competition as we can't leave until Friday. Last year we had to be there bright and early Saturday as my kids wanted to see LD Bell (so did I) so we were sprinting down the street and up the pedestrian bridge at 6:45 am (well, I don't call what I do as sprinting!). But we got our money's worth that day... and kept moving seats until we were at the 50 yard line. Guess I'd better request that day off of work, LOL.
