Just a friendly debate?
-
I was just noticing, the Area B thread is about 6 pages less then the BOA San Antonio 2018 thread 22 pages to 28 pages. If we find something else to debate about, maybe we can win the "page count" on the forums (at least until BOA SA takes place

Seriously, I thought that meant "don't come at me" for it too, guess I'm not forum savvy enough, LOL. (Sorry Bandfamo!) And I was just asking a question, I'm more curious as I haven't seen very many of the bands except Plano East, Plano Senior, and Prosper and Carroll. I saw bits and pieces of other shows thru FloMarching, but it's so different live. I do think it was a good list, with the exception of PESH not being on it But honestly, without seeing all of these bands I really have no idea how PESH will fair because I have nothing to really compare it to. I am happy PESH will perform towards the end of the day in Prelims just for the fact they have a really fun show! But they, like everyone, needed to do a bit of cleaning this week!

Just curious, have you seen all of these bands, or just going by what you have heard?
-
LOL, I was waiting for someone to see the little pun in my post! And you came back with an excellent response!
-
The last block is pretty good too, but yeah, that second block is definitely one to there for, just not sure I can get there by 10 am to see that block of bands
-
Well I guess the one true thing about the bands in the Area B contest is that nothing is in Black and White. And although our opinions of the bands might be Polar Opposites, we will all agree the all the bands and their kids are great and it will be one heck of a competition.

My only thought when I saw the little trampolines (when they performed at TOC) was it was an ankle sprain waiting to happen! I did enjoy their show though!

Rain, Rain Go Away!

I truly pray things get better for you down in the Austin area. We've had a little break over the weekend in the DFW area. Hate to see all that flooding down there on the news. -

There is sun at Region 24!! -
It looks like Region 24 should have a good day tomorrow (knock on wood!)

Nice article about this rainy band season. https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2018/10/19/dallas-fort-worth-marching-band-kids-outwit-mother-nature-slip-slide-season

All I could think of is the band director was trying to have the kids experience it and watch the other bands. There were other really small bands there too that put on nice shows, so it's not that they were so small they couldn't do anything. But yes, I could have done a better job getting those kids prepared to perform. They actually had a few good players (I remember the trumpet sounding pretty good) that they could have showcased more and worked around that. But I did feel so bad for those kids at the end. I know we all stood up when they finished. then I realized when all the drum majors lined up to get the participation awards and get results, they were not present so they had already left. I think they were from the Houston area so to travel all the way to North Texas it just seemed really weird not to stay and learn from the experience.

2018 BOA San Antonio?
PSHSMom replied to MadisonBandMan1's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
So do we know who the judges are in each panel? If that has been listed or discusses somewhere else on this thread, I apologize, just too many pages to go thru! I have a feeling they don't disclose that information, but was just wondering! -
I always thought 3 was the lowest given. Last year I went to a competition that had mainly 2a, 3a, and 4a bands. One band, which traveled pretty far was from a private school I think. They had no color guard and pretty much just one or two of each instrument. You had to wait between movements for one of the percussion members to replace one drum for another between movements. Then at one point, I think the drum major just got off the podium and stood on the sideline while one of the band directors or chaperones kind of hugged her (not sure if she was sick, or what happened) . so someone else got up on the podium and started directing. Then to make matters worse, they actually went longer than the time limit by quite a bit. I seriously wanted to just walk down there and give those kids a hug!

6A Region Result Thread 2018

Plano Senior and Plano East are good, I haven't seen Plano West yet, but I work with a woman who has a son in the band. She says they have a good show and sounds good but they have only been able to perform the whole thing once so far in a stadium setting because all of their stadium rehearsals and football games have been rained out (like most). I was pretty impressed with them last year though, so I hope that continues this year! I am working at the contest Saturday so will be there to see all the 6A bands. I made sure my shift ended before they started! -
It is a little bit sad, I was really hoping to send 6. Yes, it is still possible, but with all this rain, a school that might normally be on the boarder between a 1 and a 2 might end up with a 2 simply because of practice time. Even some of the better bands with lack of playing thru their shows at football games or having their stadium times cancelled because of rain might not be perfect this year.
-
Plano East was undefeated until last week when they played Allen (Big sigh!). So now they are 5-1.
-
No worries, I live in Plano and it's confusing! A few years ago when I was discussing the different schools and the new alignments with a friend who is a Plano Senior graduate, I referred to Plano Senior as Plano Central because we have a Plano East, a Plano West and Plano Senior, which is the "central" campus. Boy did I get an earful with that, guess they don't like to be referred to as Plano Central, LOL!
-
We have to get it from Plano Senior not Plano East... can't blame PESH for this, LOL. I have to work at the Region 24 UIL on Saturday (Clark HS - Plano) is hosting, so will be praying for no rain!
-
I am starting to think all this rain is Plano Senior's fault and their show, entitled Kokopelli Dances. Among other things, the Kokopelli mythical person is: Among ancient rain and water symbols, he plays his flute to plead for moisture sufficient for his tribe’s corn, beans and squash to grow.... Maybe their show is stuck in the "rain mode", LOL.

LOL... thanks for making me laugh this morning!!
