  1. Whew it's a hot one sitting in the stands at Pennington field.
  2. I will be there for a few hours too. Unfortunately neither my Plano East son or my Plano Senior daughter can go with me (at college or working). But i will still make the trip just to listen to all the bands. Good luck to all the schools.
  3. So I was looking thru something and found that Seven Lakes now has a band director that was once at Clark HS in Plano (9th-10th grade only). He just started there in June of this year. He did great things at Clark HS when he was there. I have no knowledge of the Seven Lakes band program, but I can imagine they will only improve with him there.
  4. Yeah Plano is at 10:30 am and it's probably a 45 min drive. I've had a kid at both Plano and Plano East so I want to support both. Hoping at least East makes the finals. But the Plano kids are so excited to finally be going back to Area after a long absence. Good luck to Bell I liked their show at BOA Plano. I am sure they will do well!
  5. Xenon - if they just would have had Plano East instead of West in that last block there might have been one more Nice to see all the Plano schools represented this year. I was so upset that Plano Senior Band didn't take their "Batman" show to all area two years ago. I just wanted to watch it again Not sure about the Plano East show this year. Saw it twice and still trying to decide if I like it or not! I keep thinking "that can't really be the ending". Not sure if I can drag my husband to another day of marching bands this weekend, but I really want to attend this Saturday!
  6. There were a few schools that received 2's at the Region 24 contest last weekend. None of the 6 A bands though. I will admit you don't see too many though!
  7. That much rehearsing plus all the traveling to competitions, playing for the football games, and the costs associated with that is crazy for kids in high school. I wouldn't want that for my kids (and I love band!). I'm not even sure how the kids at many of the Texas schools manage. Plano East doesn't compete in as many of the local competitions as the others in this area, and I know as a mom who works full time with 3 kids I had a hard time managing that schedule (and paying all the band fees for two kids at the time). Looking at that Tarpon Springs calendar, that is like a part time job, plus those kids still have their school work to do. I wonder if they have private tutors to help the kids with their school work! I just never realized that the other states didn't have the same regulations as us in Texas.
  8. I am pretty sure Plano East and Plano Senior will get 1's but not sure about West as I haven't seen their show. Hopefully it will all be good!
  9. I liked Wakeland's show, it was pretty cool. I think they had some marching issues (like they all do this early on, even FloMo wasn't as clean as they will be!), but I liked the vortex stuff they had going on and they sounded good. Since they weren't in the finals there, it was kind of hard to compare to the others that made the finals that evening. I was surprised they didn't make it when I went back for finals, I kind of expected them there (like I did Coppell). Back in 2012 when PESH went to the BOA regionals in Denton, they finished like 28 out of 33 bands. They didn't even put on their whole show. However, that is the year they went to State and also placed in the top 14 (11th or 12th can't remember exactly) at the BOA Super Regionals in San Antonio. So don't be discouraged, anything can happen!!! Plano East never attends as many marching events as many of the other bands, so it's so hard to judge how they will do this year, but I'm hoping for a repeat of 2012, LOL.
  10. Sorry I don't have the scores either. My son is an alumni of the band so I follow them, but I don't have access to all the inside information anymore! My daughter went to Plano and they were at the Wylie Invitational, so I was kind of split between which one to go to and ended up staying home when Plano didn't make the finals at Wylie. (They were #11 there).
  11. Is anyone rhere today that can give an update as to who makes the finals?
  12. Did anyone see Coppell perform? I only went in the morning to see Plano East play, but also caught Wakeland's show. We went to the finals that night not knowing who would be performing, but I expected to see Coppell there. Like everyone else mentioned, FloMo was just outstanding. But we really enjoyed all the bands! I brought my 8th grader along who wasn't too thrilled at first, but then said he was really glad he went. I think is he is looking forward to marching next year now
  13. It is a possibility that they take 5. I am pretty sure that Plano Senior (it's on their calendar) will actually attend the area competition if they qualify, and they haven't did that in quite a few years. I will add Plano East to the list of possible top 5 contenders. They have a bit of work to do before UIL (I watched them at BOA), but I also know they just finished the last movement so it was pretty sloppy. They had some of the toughest music I heard all day at the regionals. They only performed at BOA in exhibition as they were the host of the event. I no longer have any kids there (and we are at Plano Senior now anyway), so I haven't really seen much of their show or have any insights about it though! Plano Senior sounds really good, but don't think their show design is state material quite yet
  14. LD Bell was great live. They sounded great and what I liked is they really did the show with just great marching, music and color guard. Not alot of props.
  15. Just FYI, Plano East just marched in exhibition as the were hosts to the Regionals here. Not that they would have made the finals. Just watched Flower Mound ... just WOW!

  17. I think some might be surprised by Plano Senior's show this year... and they will go to Area this year if they qualify (new band director) . Not sure they can compete with the top dogs, but the parts of their show I've seen, they sound awesome (Carmina Burana). If they can clean up their marching a bit (and finish the show!) it will be great! (I have no kids in the band this year, I just caught their performance).
  18. We just got the same message from the Plano director that it was cancelled Probably makes the best sense, Saturday looks terrible! But disappointed too! Now I'm thinking I might have to make a trip to San Antonio to BOA, I will have to see if my son at A&M will meet me there! Such a long drive though.
  19. The weather really doesn't look good for Saturday. Chance of rain 100% with heavy rains possible, then thunderstorms in the evening. Isn't looking too promising!
  20. I think Plano East will definitely be in the 15-25. I haven't seen enough other bands to see how they compare, but they have a great show this year. I am no longer a PESH mom but still appreciate a good show! I will see others this weekend at Duncanville if it isn't rained out!
  21. Of the band I saw last weekend at UIL, the order I would put the bands in from Region 25 6A would be: Plano East (but they aren't attending) McKinney Boyd Plano Senior Allen Plano West Allen is very impressive just because of their size and sound, but I thought it was messy. But sometimes just being as big as they are and how they sound may move them up. Plano Senior has a good show but not as flashy as others. But they sound good. I am also happy to report that they moved back the time for them which means the many kids which weren't going to make it because of the ACT are now going to be there. The issue with having a new band director that decided to attend only to figure out many kids were scheduled for the ACT that day, LOL. McKinney Boyd has a nice show... I could see them making finals if they march well.
  22. I just saw Plano Senior put on an awesome show at UIL (my daughter is in the band), but coming from the Plano East band (my son went there), I know there show isn't as competition ready as many of the bands. However, with the new band director, it is a little obvious that maybe they might start to get into the marching competitions since they are actually attending Duncanville this year. Maybe by the time my youngest son goes there they will be in the thick of marching band competitions (4 years) too. I will probably be heading to Duncanville to check it all out next week. Last time was to watch the Plano East band who made the finals but it was rained out. All these bands are just remarkable! I am looking forward to the Marcus and Hebron shows, haven't seen them yet this year!
  23. Wow, I guess the judge didn't like Plano East's color guard, they would have moved into 2nd without that #10 guard finish in the finals!
