  1. I really want to see a Valley or Laredo band win this regional for once. Even better, I would love them to win it over a program from within the Triangle looking to scoop up a quick win.
  2. It seems a lot of speculated bands in the hunt for finals outside of the Texas "Big Five" are changing their schedules. Haltom pulled out, Coppell seems to be going to St. Louis instead, and Timber Creek does not have GN listed. It seems Vista Ridge is waiting, and we also know Keller confirmed nonattendance. Round Rock did confirm, and their path back into finals looks better again. It seems that the chance at a record-breaking six in finals is a lot shakier, but still looks very possible. On the other hand, I'm glad the Texas line up is a bit lighter, as I really, really want Park Vista in finals.
  3. Let’s get 5 LISD-S in finals! It’s certainly in reach. LISD-S already has the record for most schools from one district in finals, with four. It has also now tied for most schools in the top half of finals with LISD-N. But LISD-N remains, with NEISD (multiple times over), as the only districts with two in the medal podium. Indeed, LISD-N is the only district to have done this at both BOA San Antonio and 5A/6A State. LISD-S and Spring ISD have also accomplished this at State.
  4. I think Blue Springs is good for the top half, but not willing to say they’re in for a medal yet. Carmel will come on an even year. They saw what happened to Avon when they came on an odd year
  5. A band that skips Region will be disqualified from further UIL marching events that season and will be knocked down from Sweepstakes at UIL Concert. I think that also applies to the middle schools in their cluster as well (but would need to double check). I think it also jeopardizes a school’s ability to advance students in Solo and Ensemble. When Westfield and Spring swore off UIL, they did their own Concert Contest and Solo and Ensemble for their district, including middle schools.
  6. Samuel Culper is right. Areas draw for times in the state schedule, from which the advancers draw after the contest ends. At Area, Regions draw for times in the schedule, from which those bands (perhaps represented by their ISD) who advance draw.
  7. Waco on the 19th is bad news bears for turnout.
  8. Are we really going to act like “lost and found” as a show concept, of ALL THE PLAYED OUT SHOW CONCEPTS, just magically showed up in 2015? Literally that theme is third to planets/space and America. Pretty much none of these themes are original. Some band has done basically everything before. Even the ones you think are new, truly aren’t. There was more than one “brick” show in San Antonio finals in 2017. Let Vista Ridge have their things in peace. Also Iditarod slaps and nobody else can tell me different. The Battle on the Ice segment was one of my favorite moments of 2017 and please, everyone @ me about it.
  9. I agree. Bump Keller up to the top 10 and call it a day. Probably Cedar Ridge first out, and Vista Ridge most likely to break in.
  10. 67 is a ridiculous number. Especially considering that they’re competing against 10 other Frisco schools, and others in the Region? Many of which with very strong band programs as well!
  11. Yes, Blue Springs did have an interesting show this year!
  12. The gulf between classes is larger between 4A and 5A than any two other adjacent classes. Princeton definitely has a good chance of making finals, but it’s hard to know yet.
  13. It seemed BA was going on a 2 on 1 off pattern, but not anymore.
  14. Texas had 5 in finals in 2013 and 7 attend in 2007. But even those records seem fairly likely to break.
  15. Westwood also did Kashmir in their 2012 show! Which is actually a show I wish they took to BOA San Antonio. I think it would have gotten them very close to finals if not just in.
  16. It's not Leander, Lewisville, or for that matter, North East ISD's problem that their collective dominance is boring or repetitive. They can't do anything about it except tone it down, which obviously isn't an option.
  17. Yep, it is in fact that weekend. The two week gap has created some gems in the past. Let's hope it does something similar this next year!
  18. This is probably what excited me most this entire season. Was soooo happy with what they put out this season, and can only hope they soon go back to at least being a regional finalist.
  19. Just checked, and this is correct. Regions 13, 17, 19, 23 and 27 make up E. I is 9, 10, 33, and 8-South.
  20. Area E I believe covers the rest
  21. Friendswood was in 6A over the last two years. They did advance to state from Area E in 2016.
  22. I think that’s one of the biggest issues. There would be absolutely no incentive for most bands to travel to Texas if GN were there. For one, the coffers aren’t nearly as deep in other parts of the country to justify only performing once (not that Texas bands go to GN just to perform once, but support for music education is MUCH higher financially and only three Texas bands since 2008 haven’t made Semis). And second, it would ruin the regional diversity we like in an event like that. Even if some bands actually get closer to the venue (looking at you Oklahoma and California), there’s a reason those groups don’t or rarely come to our regionals in the first place.
  23. Austin High (definitely not SFA ) is back in 6A.
