Flower Mound has won this super regional three times in four years. I believe that is a record. I think we can say it - they just might be the new dominant band.

Vista Ridge is DESERVEDLY getting the absolute best crowd reaction tonight. Is there room for two LISD-South schools on the podium tonight?

Leander was LIGHTS OUT in the stadium. Absolutely in the medal hunt, and they might take it all home.

TWHS got the perfect draw time and had the right kind of performance to potentially jump the gap tonight. Don’t be surprised if they pull it off.

I know people have feelings about prelims, and I did too, but every band so far has earned being here. Feel free to @ me about it.

Well, those ten bands work really hard too. It’s tough, but at the end of the season, you just have to be happy with your band’s show and the work you and your friends (or your child and their friends) put into it.

Even if Panel 1 threw off the captions a little and had decent influence on the finalists, the top 7 are pretty much as I would have called them. VERY happy to see Vista Ridge in the top half! I will do some history booking when I am back at my laptop after drinks.

The difference is that at Grand Nationals, they’re all together when captions are decided. But I don’t think it’ll be a big deal.

Plumage also makes visual individual errors really obvious from up top. Not using them might be good for a specific show design, but are also potentially a good way to hide errors.

I've actually used multi-cam for the past couple of weekends and it's been waaaaaaay better than past years. I've enjoyed it!

That’s not what they’re saying. They’re saying that scoring in general is determined by a variety of conditions that naturally inflate or depress scores, and the conditions were perfect for CTJ to break the record. There are two main ways to accomplish this. Either the competition is so strong that the scores start high, like 2017. Or, your performance is so ridiculously ahead of everyone else’s that you sit well on top, like Marcus 2012. Alternatively, a relative depression of scores can occur when all the bands are sitting in the same area, which doesn’t allow for the bands above a given clump to have a margin that pushes their score much higher. See 2013, and to a lesser extent 2015, for that.

For better or worse 7 place jumps are not uncommon in UIL. Ask a Hendrickson marcher in 2014.
