Popular Post LHSax Posted October 16, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 16, 2018 I haven’t posted as much this year, but I’ve been hovering around these boards for 10+ years now, and I definitely think this is the most active season of discussion I’ve ever seen! And with a few minor exceptions, it’s been great, insightful, and mature discussion with a good balance of students, alumni and parents. I don’t know what’s spurred the magic this year, but it’s been great to read and keep up with, especially with the diversity of locales represented and the number of people who have gained access to discussing shows most of us have actually gotten the chance to view (thanks Flomarching/Youtube!). It’s very exciting to see 20 page threads for BOA Austin (we usually only get that deep for San Antonio) and even multiple page threads for smaller competitions. Debates have been civil and the support for groups that people aren't specifically tied to has been fantastic! Just wanted to express my excitement for the growth of the site! Hope the rain stops so our conversations can finally move away from the weather. While I may be 1000+ miles away now, I’m excited for the most wonderful time of the year, especially due to the hype built up by this board! josephbandfan, FloMoParent, LostChoirGuy and 7 others 10 Quote

Popular Post 1998-2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 17, 2018 As BOA SA approaches I've been wondering if we will hear from some of the Avon parents who joined last year. FloMoParent, gabe and LeanderMomma 3 Quote
FloMoParent Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 I think that the abject failure that is the Music For All forums has had a little of an impact here. That place is not managed, over run with spam, and leaves little to be desired. People want to talk band, I think, are being active here Quote

Perhaps if we added a category for non Texas bands, they would feel more comfortable? I know it's TXBands.com, but we could definitely open it up to discussion of bands outside of Texas in at least one category surely! I would love to discuss Carmel, Avon, Broken Arrow and Tarpon Springs among many others myself. I do participate in the MFA forums, but like FloMoParent said, it is not well managed nor does it seem to get the traffic that we get here. It's a shame IndianaBands.com shut down, as MFA is a poor substitute for those parents! 1998-2018 1 Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 Maybe have a category for non-local contests? Quote

It's true that some of the Avon parents admitted to lurking before joining and expressed some hesitation and concern because they didn't know if they would be welcome. Of course they quickly discovered that with a band that good we already considered them to be honorary Texans. FloMoParent 1 Quote
Danpod Posted October 19, 2018 Posted October 19, 2018 Haven't looked at the numbers, but I think we are definitely the busiest ever. And I wouldn't be surprised if we break a record for most people online next week at Area. LeanderMomma 1 Quote

Popular Post AvonDad Posted October 25, 2018 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2018 Oh....some of us are still here. Once a band nerd, pretty much always a band nerd. And, yes, I am now hooked on Dan's Podcasts and eagerly await the NerdIns and Cherrys (that suck) on Top after the event. 5 te 6, FloMoParent, LeanderMomma and 5 others 8 Quote

Well, in general, yes...up to a point...and then it can sometimes get a little weird. Every time I tell a Texan I was born in Hawaii and grew up it California they get this strange look on their face. It doesn't seem to matter that I've lived in Texas longer. The look always makes me want to explain, "It's okay, I married a Texas girl many years ago." But I've learned that can create problems too. I suddenly began to get some heat from the guys a ran around with when I started dating my future wife. Finally a local girl I knew explained it by saying. "They were fine when you were just racing cars and drinking beer with them. But you already have that sweet '69 Mach1 they all want and now you're running with that fine filly with the long hair and even longer legs. They can see you caught her eye too, and they don't appreciate you tryin' to thin the herd." What?!? Oh, are you trying to tell me they're saying, "Hey, locals only! Don't try to surf this point break or there will be consequences." Ha! Bring it on guys. I realized I was marrying this girl as I drove away from that kiss on her doorstep after our first date. I found out later that was when she made the decision too. <3 So now that I think about it, Texans are welcoming. Especially if you find the right one. Quote
