Yeah I think it’s extremely competitive within the bands attending. There’s a ton of bands around each others’ levels and in the same areas so it’s a great gauge

Agree to disagree. I think the lack of consistent state advancers or BOA finalists here makes the competitive level pretty clear.

This is a great contest to gauge up and coming bands though even if it’s not super competitive.

is anyone else confused by this, because if i was apart of Taft id be like "did we even place" when come to find out you get 1st in 6A

 

also im so happy for Legacy Ranch!!! from what i know they are a VERY new school and opened the school for freshman in Fall 2024, if im wrong, then i still wanna send a big congrats!!

Yes, Legacy Ranch is performing with only freshmen and sophomores this year. 

They made state alternate last year with only freshmen.

Seeing how close the top 5 were, I’d say it was a real battle of small details and whose run was ever so slightly better

They tore and just their show fell off in the end. Also feel bad for A&M their show was really good!

Congratulations to WC!! Really curious about O'Conor after doing so well last weekend, but then you look at what happened to Clear Brook. Congrats to everyone who competed here

Prelims ranking are always going to be a little wonky in a large competition like this.  I do think the judges did a good job getting the right bands into finals either way yesterday.

Tore essentially means that a portion of the band or "section" is on a different part of the music than the rest of the band (either ahead or behind). This can also happen if one of the drum majors are behind.

I think another way to say it is phasing. Normally the front ensemble and drumline lose each other somehow, though any section can start the domino effect. Sound from back of the field gets to the audience at a different time than at the front. That split second difference is a universe in music world. Look up Reagan's Grand National Semi Finals in 2007 for a very classic example.

Taft, and most of NISD tbh, has always been very inconsistent early season. Placements early season are unpredictable and probably not indicative of how area will look like. I am starting to question Brandeis's dominance though.

Nice win for Churchill! I feel like they could have made finals at San Marcos last weekend so its good to see them get a win this year.

Really happy to see my friends at Anderson finish 6th here.  I'm curious to see if they can make Finals at BOA-Waco.  There's some stiff competition there, it's a tall order, but I'd love to see them make it.

Bands can also have visual “tears” but I’ve always seen the term used more with music.

Usually one follows the other, if your music and tempo is off then your marching will also be off.

I totally get the concept of the band not being together visually or musically, just never heard that term (tear/tore) before.
