Logistically, the trailer will be harder to source than loaner FE. Is Glenn going? If not, they may be able to use their trailer for the weekend. I think the biggest take away from the 6A contest isn't who won or lost, but how amazing the band community is. We can argue about scores, who we think should or should not have won, but in the end everyone will do everything they can to support these kids and that's what matters. Indeed, it's been great to see the support. To answer your question, yes Glenn as well as every other LISD marching band, is going to BOA-SA this year. I think they'd probably need to rent several box trucks for the front ensemble, electricals and electronics, tubas, and large battery percussion. Students can carry all the smaller winds and their uniforms on the buses if necessary. Heck that's what we used to do back in the day, only tubas and general equipment went on our (much smaller) trailer. Everybody else took their wind instruments and uniforms with them. dullbanddad 1 Quote
Popular Post packwick Posted November 5, 2025 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2025 im hoping that some of the ones that just barely missed out on 6A finals, like m&g and bridgeland, make it into finals here. it'll be interesting. the scoring in boa is verrry different from uil, w/ music perf being almost 60% of the "score" in uil and only 20% here. the sheets have similar but significantly different POCs too. JFNDOWBFAN Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 Logistics question, 💯 not judging any of these bands….but saw so many of them at 6A state and finals but then turn around and do grand nationals. Do they stay for the week? North Texas schools like FLOMOs do they go back to school for a day or two just to go back. What type of budgets do they run and what are band fees like to make it possible to do this many high quality and competitive contest. I eat a lot of pb and jelly for my kids as it is. Haha I’m not a current parent so don’t know the exact schedule- but was heavily involved in setting travel plans and schedules in the past. The schedule is set to try and avoid pulling the kids out of school as much as possible. Because the schools are open for voting stations for the election- Monday and Tuesday our district didn’t have school- so the kids didn’t miss any school for UIL. They drove back home last night and kids were at school today, they’ll be at school the rest of their week. They have a football game Thursday night and will drive back to the San Antonio area Friday night. BOA SA Saturday and then back home Sunday. School on Monday, tues, and then wed they usually (I don’t know what the schedule is this year) have half the kids leave around lunch and the other half an hour later to head to the airport to fly on the two charter flights to GN. So the kids will miss 2- 2 1/2 days of school for GN. They’ll fly back home on Sunday and be back in school on Monday. cost- I don’t know what it is this year. It’s a crazy large total number (of the entire band) to pay for the flights and hotels… but while it’s not cheap- there are opportunities to fundraise and if a family can’t pay- there’s a built in % that “is expected” and the only person that knows who is helped out and who fully pays is the director and booster treasurer. The GN years are the expensive years… they try to keep the costs lower for the other years. JFNDOWBFAN, packwick and AWF2014 2 1 Quote

It’s also amazing opportunities for the kids so can’t fault anyone for giving that to the kids. I can’t imagine coordinating all of the travel plans, bless you! Fighting for Gold: Obviously Flomo is the odds on favorite to win it all, and while I do think that they will, I also think that it's going to be a lot closer than people expect. Similar to Hebron in 2022 when everyone had them head and shoulders above but they only ended up winning by 0.25. I think Hebron, Vandegrift and The Woodlands will give them a fight, and possibly take a caption off of them. just for fun I'll say Flomo in first with GE, Vandy in second with no captions 👀, Hebron in 3rd with music and The woodlands in 4th taking visual. Finalist locks: Anything can happen at the SA super but these are the bands that I would very surprised to see miss finals here. Vista Ridge, Reagan, Cedar Ridge, Cedar Park, Rouse, Dripping Springs, Pearland. 12-14(15?🤞) INSANITY: This is the most competitive part of this contest and it's not particularly close. The bands that I could see taking one of the last three (maybe four!) spots would be Westlake, Seven Lakes, Leander, Moe and Gene, Mcneil, Round Rock, Wakeland, Keller, James Bowie, Claudia Taylor Johnson, Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, and I probably still left someone out by mistake. I'm not even going to try and pick 3 from the above list, 23rd place at the SA super is not at all what it used to be. Excited to see what happens! dunno. woodlands gonna have to somehow clean the downstairs vis in just a couple rehearsals to win visual here. lotsa out of step marchers and wild upper bodies in that last part when they're flying around. upstairs actually is mostly fab, both composition and excellence. very dci there at the end, which i LOVE. juuust kinda wishing they fielded it a week earlier... time management is crucial!!! Thanks, I skimmed through it a bit and I've heard your director talk about it before. I get where he's coming from and I don't mind the activities of pushing the envelope and challenging current accepted norms. I'll say that I watched the show at the Leander-CP football game without the video screens for the first time, and I enjoyed it more. It was so much easier to focus on the band's drill, and even the music, without the visual distraction. Just my personal opinion. As always, Leander Band put together an entertaining and creative show while displaying a very high level of proficiency in both music and drill. This is what the Leander Band is well known for. Spicer is a wonderful designer and of course we've worked closely with him for years as well. lhbenlee, Bdc22 and LeanderMomma 2 1 Quote

This video provides a lot of insight into how they were incorporated into the show design and how it’s evolved over the course of the season. This was a great watch, thank you for posting it. I also didn't get a chance to see Leander's area performances so I really appreciated getting to see some of the new design elements they've added since TMC. I know the screens weren't generally well received by the community at large at first, and admittedly I was a little thrown by them too in the beginning. My eyes kept getting drawn to them or only the students who were right up front instead of the band and I ended up feeling like I'd missed most of the show. And yes, they were also very bright at night. But, as with all shows, these things evolve over the course of the season, and there will always be things you might notice later that you didn't notice before. I rewatched one of my favorite Moe and Gene shows recently (Young Person's Guide to the Neitherworld from 2021), and STILL found things I didn't notice before. Also, Leander's show looks incredible from the box even when it was still early season. Sitting down low puts you kind of at a disadvantage with this one. The thing I love about Leander in general is how their shows pull you in. They consistently add really unique and fun soloist and section work (remember Jack from Ripple?), have a stand out guard, and excellent musicians on top of shows that always left me feeling like I'd been taken along for the ride. Leander's shows linger in my memories in ways others might not, not because they weren't done well, but because Leander just consistently does things with a unique twist and invite the audience in. Most importantly, Leander's kids are obviously having fun while they perform. This is the clearly the intent and they execute it perfectly in my opinion. Love me some Leander. 😊 Here's a link to that famous Jack moment for anyone who wants a walk down memory lane: https://youtu.be/C3GPTyQ7r7Q?si=NLKZW0Aent8hZ-oB utee94, Bdc22, ElectricTuba and 2 others 4 1 Quote

utee94 Posted November 6, 2025 Posted November 6, 2025 There are some pretty spicy predictions coming out now, I love it. Really looking forward to this one, and then 5A State a couple of days later. It's going to be a marathon, I think I've estimated we'll do another 13 load/unload cycles of instruments and props between now and Tuesday night. Good luck to all the bands competing at BOA-SA, I'm really looking forward to seeing in person, so many of the shows I've only seen on youtube or NFHS so far! Tubalord11 Posted November 7, 2025 Posted November 7, 2025 Good luck to all the bands competing today! Unfortunately was not able to make it as originally planned but if work allows I will def be here next year. And unfortunately our game next week is an evening so no grand nats on Box either so I’m basically done for the year. Should be able to catch most of 5A and some of 3A state though dullbanddad 1 Quote
