  1. The Mansfield Preview of Champions will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at Vernon Newsom Stadium in Mansfield. I haven’t seen a schedule yet, but will keep looking!
  2. I was looking at this very helpful spreadsheet. Remind me what the colors mean. Green means advanced to State in 2021. What about the others? Thanks for putting this together!!
  3. It was great! Happy 1st Day of Band Camp to all. Stay cool...
  4. I kind of wonder if there is a revenue driver at play here. I'm sure the state contests bring a ton of revenue to San Antonio. I'm sure they want more of it. My daughter's band just moved from 5A to 6A, and when she learned that the coming year would be another UIL state year, she had mixed emotions. Aside from the grueling work that all band kids put in on the road to state, there is pressure to succeed, conflicts with academics, and the cost. It's a lot. I'm landing in the every other year camp. BOA provides annual competition and having UIL state every other year makes it something to really look forward to when it arrives.
  5. Thank you so much! I appreciate the information.
  6. So this is a dumb question...but what is Honor Band? I'm not familiar with it. How is it different than All State?
  7. Hi band parents. I was cleaning out our band uniform and storage room today and we have SO much old gear. Bibbers from two shows ago that we probably won't use again, a full set of retired marching jackets, pants and plumed hats... Are there schools who need or want older gear? We could donate it to Goodwill or Salvation Army, of course, but I would love for a band who needs it to have it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
  8. Just reading through all these posts...I'm totally knocked out. Things sure have come a long way since I was in Flag Corps back in 1986! 🤣 We didn't even have our own competition. Can't wait to see and learn more about this talented world of colorguard!
  9. Congrats to Highland Park percussion. 😊 They were a huge part of HP’s scores at state. Those are some awesome and talented kids.
  10. What is the difference between the two different divisions?
  11. I'm just curious...has the Texas SR always been in San Antonio? I wonder if it was in the D/FW area if more out of state bands would attend since it would be a little bit closer (I'm thinking OK, IN bands...)
  12. This is horrible and absolutely heartbreaking. I think every band in Texas is saying a prayer for them right now.
  13. Well I sure would like to see Hebron go.
  14. No kidding! Should be a very good and thoroughly entertaining contest!
  15. What is the title of their show? I haven't seen it yet but that's a fun theme!
  16. They realize that they are champions in a field of champions. Love that they get this moment.
  17. Hebron seals the deal. That’s about as far as I can go. I know the placements matter but they kind of don’t since so much is subjective. Mind blowing performances.
  18. The upper level was open in the 5A competition. It was nice to sit up there!
  19. I loved the Rouse show at 5A state. Very happy for them as well!
  20. There was a full band retreat for 5A state...and it was AWESOME. Yay for full retreats again. I assume they'll do one for 6A as well.
  21. Hi band parents/boosters - I have a question for you. Our 5A band is one of the only ones I've seen that does not have a semi/trailer truck for props, equipment, etc. We have three small UPS sized trucks that we own, and they aren't ideal for large props, instrument storage, etc. Does anyone have experience buying/renting/getting a semi/trailer for your band? If so, I'd love advice on where to start for our band to try to get a vehicle like that. Thanks for any insights you may have. Our district funding is limited, so we'll likely have to raise funds or figure out a funding model.
  22. In addition to waking up with HP's Sugar Rush music in my head (b/c that was my kid's show, so it's been in my head since August), I also have Rouse's music in my head. 🙂 Again, every performance was truly outstanding yesterday, but Rouse's show was especially lovely IMO...really loved that music book! Congratulations to all the finalists and to the medalists! It was such a wonderful experience seeing all of those shows in one sitting, and seeing the full band retreat at the end. I can't wait to follow along for 6A...
  23. Yes, thank you!!
  24. Can someone explain what the individual visual score is, exactly? Thanks!
  25. I’m proud of our HP Highlander Band! They did all they could with a lot of joy! What an amazing day. Every performance by every band has been so outstanding!
