I do believe you’re right, but really I don’t know. Also, rezoning is at the end of March, and they will be balancing the areas out. I asked my director about this just now, and he told me that he did talk to the people who do the areas and such about this. What may likely happen is some area B schools would come over to this area. As for 6A, I don’t know the details about that. I just know some details that I am probably going to have to withhold.

OMG IF THIS HAPPENS THAT WOULD BE HUGE!!!!

They have needed to do this for a while, so I’m glad it sounds like something will change

So assuming everything stays the same, Highland Park wouldn’t be over at Area C unless they do decide to do balance changes. I won’t try to predict this area until there’s a finalization on the Areas

I could be completely wrong about this, but I’m pretty sure it’s all based on location, not what area you were previously in, and it seems C is the area for Dallas ISD schools, so I think they should be coming back here. For example, if a school like Aledo went to 6A, they’d probably go to Area B or C for 6A, not 6A area F. It all (I’m pretty sure) is just based on the UIL zoning

I agree, I do hope there are some balancing changes, I just don’t know who would come over besides Highland Park.

I think they could bring the Region 25 bands, so Lovejoy, Sherman, Denison, Melissa, and Anna (might be missing a couple more) to this Area. They used to do this until 2017 when these programs became apart of area B, but I doubt we will see any big changes like this soon.

Also- with Wylie High hosting WMI the same day as the McKinney Marching Invitational (which is surprising to me since these programs love having the other(s) in attendance), that means there will be a new champ at MMI.

Yes this is true. They’ve won all of them (don’t count 2018) except 21 when Highland Park to them, and they placed 2nd. I’d say Wylie East, assuming they go back is the current front runner, as they’ve placed 2nd the past two in a row.

I do know they were moved out of Area C before the realignment, but would it make logical sense for them to come back after just 1 alignment? I genuinely do believe they could come back, it just wouldn’t make sense for them to.

I just personally don’t see them going to B. Mesquite stadium is way closer, and B is already stacked as it is

This is already nuts, between the McKinneys that took up most of the bubble, Bentonville and Jenks, the previous top 4ish, and the rest being very strong and upwards programs, this is going to be an insanely competitive BOA for sure, probably the toughest overall for regionals, we will have to see who else gets confirmed

Yeah, fhis regional may end up being the stronger dfw regional considering their are a ton of local comps on the 5th

Just to put some variety into the flooded US bands and BOA front page lol, if you looked at what the spring UIL meeting entails, they may potentially change the 5 judge system to have Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Vis. Ensemble, and Vis. Individual. How do you guys think this may change the competition in terms of potential finalists, and state qualifiers?

I think personally (grain of salt, of course) we will see Marcus take 1st much more often considering their percussion and visuals place higher generally more consistently than Hebron, especially this year, I could see Prosper maybe taking ground from Flower Mound happening sooner unless they beef up next year, and Boyd will likely place consistently higher considering their percussion is one of the strongest programs (and from what Ive seen from their band they are going to be insane this year along with McKinney High), otherwise I cant really say and would like to hear some other peoples opinions, and maybe how it may affect some lower placing groups into maybe going way higher, curious on what other people think about it

I think we definitely could see some new faces become more consistent programs, however, I wouldn’t imagine it would have to much of a change to who makes state consistently, at least the top 3 or 4 spots, but it definitely has the potential to shake things up and would bring some exciting change

This does not seem likely. Region 31 will still contain Southlake, Coppell, Bell, Trinity, and Haltom. https://align.tmea.org/Align_2426/tmeamapregion.php?region=31

True, so they’d either have to put Coppell elsewhere or make a new region idk, they wouldn’t move Bell and Trinity since the current B is at their stadium, but still something needs to change

They are looking for a new head director, yes. From what I've heard it wasn't exactly his choice to leave.

Interesting, I wonder why? They had a VERY successful first season, 3rd in AA at prosper, 7th at the Mckinney marching comp and made finalist THEIR FIRST YEAR at area B, which is arguably the most competitive 5A area, all of this in their first year of existence is something very hard to do. Maybe he was super strict or something, idk, but I don't know if this was the move

I had a similar thought when I heard the news. But thinking about it some more, I'm glad we are going. It's not like the grand nationals are something you have to qualify for, or even be good to attend. You just sign up. Lots of bands that are good, but not great, attend every year. The only question is whether the program/boosters are willing to fund the trip for what might be an underwhelming outcome. And that's up to the individual program, if they want to take that kind of calculated risk. In Bridgeland's case, the performance the past couple of years has been solid. In my view, if you can make the finals at BOASA, you have a good shot of making them at GN.

100%! If anything, they are still “young”, and have had only one year of making finals at the big shows, which is still something to be super proud of as they have done what programs have dreamed of they have been open for years longer so fast, but personally I think they will be just fine here

wait that's actually so funny lol! But yes, this is looking to be another super stacked GN's, finals will once again be SUPER tight to get into to, but I know our Tx bands are gonna kill it as always! Really excited to see how AAA turns out, cedar park might be taking home their first AAA class championship from nats!

My kid is a student there, and the directors told them. I also have other hard evidence confirming it. They haven't shared it with the boosters yet, but I imagine that will happen at the next meeting. I don't know if this changes anything about BOASA, BOA Webster, state, etc.

Wow this is so exciting, super excited to see your kid and the rest of the band perform in Indy next season!!

  13. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the lineup for this event turns up being outside of the normal finalist. There are THREE other major local contest on this day now, the McKinney and Wylie invitationals and the Don Hanna comp in Denton. I’d imagine McKinney will still be fine, but the WMI tends to pull some notable bands that also come here, such as Lonestar and Lebanon Trail. I’m not concerned as much as I am curious as to who will chose what to go to, but we may see some new faces in finals this year
