  1. Prosper had a good run. They will be through to semis and IMO are at the top of the finals bubble if they can clean up a little bit. Their strong point music had a little dirt that when they clean up will help them tremendously to getting to finals. What a gorgeous and delicate ballad. Tarpon Springs. I hope I never get tired of being surprised by them. Every year they come out with a high demand visual treat. They sound AMAZING! That fluegelhorn and bari sax soloists are FIRE! Holy guard accuracy batman. Incredible.
  2. M&G Johnson had a fantastic run today. They will be representing Team Texas in semis for sure. Prosper is up in about 5 minutes followed by Tarpon Springs. Tarpon Springs is a 2A school (technically). 2A is a meat grinder this year. My guess is that they will win it but Kiski has put out what is my favorite show from them since the early 90s. Mustang's show this year is another wildly fun presentation. I think they cleaned up a lot since St. Louis.
  3. 2014's battle between Cedar Park and Vandegrift was immensely fun.
  4. I'll be there, but I'm not footing the bill to bring a backing band 🤪
  5. I know it's part of the activity for the foreseeable future. There are a lot of things that can be done with electronics on the field and it hasn't even begun to be explored yet (I've got some remarkably terrible ideas). The organizations have not invested in having proper techs set ups. With discussions I've had with staff and volunteers from multiple organizations tech is always an afterthought. I ran a professional 25,000 sq ft recording studio for many years and am quite familiar with recording electronics dying at the exact worst time possible. Actually after a few years I expected it and always had a WTF just happened backup plan. Unfortunately, I have not seen one organization have a back up plan on field. They may have them and so seamlessly integrated them that we never knew it happened but I have my doubts.
  6. This is why I'm not a fan of so many electronics in shows.
  7. Why not have a State Marching band festival then?
  8. My guess: Hebron Vista Ridge The Woodlands Vandegrift Ronald Reagan Cedar Ridge Flower Mound CTJ Coppell Marcus Pearland Keller Round Rock Waxahachie
  9. Hebron may have left the door open a little bit. A shaky moment and an uncharacteristic dynamic hole. Their soloists are fantastic and the ensemble accuracy is off the charts when playing at speed. This is going to be remarkably close. What a contest!
  10. From what I heard Vista should win brass and woodwind music (with one big Pen Striped caveat). They were very clean movement wise. I was too enthroalled with the band to really watch the guard though. What an great run performing one of my favorite music books of this contest.
  11. Holy Moly. I thought Vandy peaked last night. No, they just hit peak Vandy this afternoon.
  12. Yes, I believe so but covering different captions
  13. I dislike Content and Design as much as I dislike Visual General Effect. Why? The students have no, none, zero, zilch control over this. It becomes a glory spot for the directors and design teams. Are they part of the organization? Absolutely. Should they get a judging slot with such weight? No.
  14. If schools truly are getting a cut (as it appears to be whenever you sign up) I am all for this service. Box5 just goes to the Troopers (I got nothing against the Troopers, I actually really dig 'em) and a fee other investors. This isn't rocket surgery and for this service's first attempt at a band contest they did great. Much better than FLOMarching was 3 or 4 years ago. They heard our cries and put up a high cam. Now it's very small technical issues that can be easily and quickly fixed.
  15. No, that was a pretty clean run. I think they may not have been too pleased with the result at the Super Regional and took it out on the show tonight. This is the best that I've seen them (and I've seen them a lot this year in contests, festivals, and games).
  16. Check your audio outputs. Uncheck any compression (loudness, balance volume, limiter, etc...) in audio processing.
  17. The Oak RIdge trumpet soloist has a tone that you don't hear very often in Texas marching bands. It's more of an Italian soloist tone, nice and rich. Good job on that solo.
  18. I tend to really like the Seven Lakes show concepts and this year is no exception. What a fun show.
  19. Vista with big lush sounds....wow! This is my favorite Vista show ever, yes, ever. I totally dig Tomball's take on Jump, Jive and Wail. Reaching back a little bit Hanna was a great show. Their band's familiarity with the music game it not only a unique sound but one that really allowed them to enjoy the show.
  20. I personally would like to thank Dr. Sheldon Cooper for is strongly worded email
  21. Gheez! The Dickinson guard was on fire today. Great work by them. The movie theme is a lot of fun for a show concept.
  22. That was my first time seeing Midland this season. I love their music selections.
