It's all about Texas this week in BOA-Land! Both BOA Regionals this week are in Texas and we are going to be covering both of them here in the blog today. The two Regionals are 525 miles apart from eachother, that's about the same distance as from Dallas to St.  Louis. There are tons of storylines and subplots going on at these two Regionals and Daniel Valdez covered a lot of them on the two  most recent episodes of The DanPodcast, so check them out.

  4. You hit the nail right on the head! I am definitely super introverted, but I try really hard to act extroverted; that was an awesome way that you phrased that.

That's one of the things that I love about this activity; it's a different world that is in many ways separated from the "real" world and we all get to be whatever we want to build ourselves into regardless of who we are elsewhere. And the stretching of self this has given me has even manifested itself and helped me grow in everything that I do. I can give presentations to large groups at work with confidence instead of curling up into my introverted ball of fear in the corner. The fear still twinges, but the forced extroversion I have put myself through here has given me the tools with which to push that aside and know that no wording is perfect, everyone understands that, and that is ok.

  5. isn't military style very prominent there as well?

Yup, South of I-20 and East of I-45 has a high likelihood of being Military. I still love the legendary Kingwood 1998 show that won both 1st place Marching votes in 5A State Prelims and only barely missed 5A State Finals (largest classification at the time).

I saw that show live from the stands of Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco my senior year and I was amazed.

  6. I know it's more than a bit late, but I was reading through this thread again and wanted to check off just how many of these things actually happened.

Plausible and not altogether unlikely scenarios:

    (1) Coppell places fifth or higher in finals.

    (2) Haltom places third or higher in finals.

    (3) Either Keller or Duncanville does not place in the top three in either finals or prelims.

    (4) Duncanville places over either Keller or L.D. Bell in either prelims or finals.

    (5) Either Trinity or Fossil Ridge makes finals.

    (6) Keller Central places fifth or higher in finals.

    (1) Coppell placed 4th in Finals

    (3) Keller placed 4th in Prelims (1st in Finals, though)

    (4) Duncanville was 1st in Prelims and only behind Keller in Finals

    Plausible but less likely scenarios:

    (1) Haltom does not place in the top five in finals but two of Martin, Coppell, and Keller Central do.

    (2) James Martin, Haltom, and Keller Central place in the top six in finals while Coppell does not.

    (3) Duncanville places over both L.D. Bell and Keller in either prelims or finals.

    (4) Keller places over both Duncanville and L.D. Bell in either prelims or finals.

    (3) Duncanville was 1st in Prelims and only behind Keller in Finals

    (4) Keller was 1st in Finals

    Possible, but very unlikely scenarios:

    (1) Two of L.D. Bell, Keller, or Duncanville tie either in prelims or in finals.

    (2) L.D. Bell places third or lower in finals.

    (3) Timber Creek places higher than either Coppell or Keller Central in either prelims or finals.

    (4) Both James Martin and Haltom place in the top three in finals while neither Duncanville nor Keller places below fifth.

    (5) None of Haltom, Martin, or Coppell takes third or fourth in finals, but two of L.D. Bell, Keller, Duncanville, and Keller Central do.

    (6) Haltom places first or second or ties for first or second in either prelims or finals.

    (7) Finals is rained out.

    (1) Close but not quite. LD Bell tied Coppell for 2nd (Bell won tie breaker).

    (2) LD Bell was 3rd in Finals.

    (3) Timber Creek placed 7th and 6th ahead of Keller Central which was 10th in both.

    Very improbable scenarios:

    (1) Only one of L.D. Bell, Duncanville, Keller, or Haltom places in the top three while both Coppell and James Martin do, in finals.

    (2) Either L.D. Bell or Duncanville does not advance.

    (3) A band placing lower than seventh in prelims advances to state in finals.

    (4) Coppell places fifth or lower in prelims, but then places third or higher in finals.

    (3) Plano East was 9th in Prelims and 5th in Finals to advance to State.
  7. There is a James Madison HS in Dallas. As far as other bands "in the city of Dallas", that really depends on what we are talking about. Dallas ISD? Dallas city borders but can be other ISD's? Dallas County? Dallas Metroplex? DFW Metroplex? Exurbs like Frisco, Denton, and McKinney?

If we are just talking Dallas ISD, then Skyline is probably the best.

The city of Highland Park is wholly surrounded by the city of Dallas as is pretty close to Downtown, so if we include them, then Highland Park is the best.

If we want to talk ISDs where the HS campus happens to be within city of Dallas' borders, then Lake Highlands from Richardson ISD is also up there.
