  2. In 2014, 6A Area B was held at HEB's Pennington Field, had 22 bands in Prelims, 10 in Finals, and advanced 4 bands to State. Marcus, Hebron, Flower Mound, and Haltom. LD Bell was the Alternate.

Since then, the Regions and Areas have been re-aligned and Marcus, Hebron, and Flower Mound (all State Finalists) have been moved out of Area B, but Duncanville, Coppell, and Keller (also all State Finalists) were moved in.

2016 6A Area B will also be held at HEB's Pennington Field and looks very likely to have

  3. Duncanville: Postcards From Paris

Music from: Satie, Milhaud, Delibes, Ravel and Offenbach.

A very, very different sound from Duncanville this year, excited for what's to come!

    Gymnopédie No.1 - Erik Satie

Suite Française Mvt #3 - Darius Milhaud

Pizzicato from Sylvia - Léo Delibes

Pavane for a Dead Princess - Maurice Ravel

Infernal Galop from Orpheus in the Underworld - Jacques Offenbach (commonly known as the Can-Can)

  4. Will any staff members be there at the event? For some reason I had some vague memory of something remotely like that happening at some point in the past. But maybe I'm just fooling myself.

Maybe I'll try and watch on FloMarching or something.

Daniel (Xenon) blogs Nationals pretty much every year from Indy.  Other than that, we've never had staffers at out-of-state regionals.  I think Zach blogged a Colorado invitational once when he was at UC Boulder I think in 2007 or 2008, but never a BOA regional.

Music for All recently started contracting with Indiana Marching to send their people to the various Super Regionals....that might be what you're thinking.

Yeah, at least one IndianaMarching person will be at BOA STL running a live blog in addition to the FloMarching video stream.

I'm going to be running the scores booth at DMI on the 22nd, so I won't have time to run a blog, but I'm hoping to be able to tweet some pictures @TxBands like I did this weekend from UIL Region 20.

  5. I wouldn't say they were comfortable on top for finals at BOA Arlington, while they beat hebron by over a point in prelims, they won finals by .1, mainly because of their GE advantage.

I meant that they were able to keep a comfortable enough lead to stay in the medals at BOA SA last year even though they already had a complete show at BOA Arlington. Although, comfortable is very relative.
  6. Thank you for putting this all together and for submitting suggestions in the first place! I know that most of these have been talked about before here, but I think this is the first time they've all been in one place.

I am super excited about having 12 bands in 6A Finals (assuming 36 bands which is likely) and Full Retreat too!

And having 6A Finals on Wednesday is going to help a lot with being able to have good performances with kids that are awake. Last year's 1A/5A competition on Tuesday was an absolute beast running from 7am to 1am; kids that performed around 8am in Prelims were asleep on the field when they had to perform after midnight in Finals.

  7. Yeah, the FloMo Gap was real. That was crazy end of year level cleanliness for most groups that will be in Finals at BOA SA and fully deserved to score 90ish if it were to stand completely on its own or was against BOA SA level competition.

FloMo did have a completed show this year while most others didn't, but they had that last year too and were still able to stay comfortably on top. And they do have quite a bit to add, especially in the musicality department where they can add a whole lot more dynamic range and interpretive nuance beyond just musical/visual cleaning. I do agree that the gap will likely get closed quite a bit, but I'm not sure that anybody will be able to fully catch up and pass them before BOA SA.

  8. The number of bands that qualify to advance out of the Region round determine how many will advance from Area to State. An Area gets to advance 1 band to State for every 5 bands that qualify for Area.

    6A Area A: 15 (Advance 3 to State)

    Region 1: (1 max) - 1

    Region 6: (6 max) - 6

    Region 16: (1 max) - 1

    Region 22: (7 max) - 7

    6A Area B: 25 (Advance 5 to State)

    Region 5: (7 max) - 7

    Region 20: (10 max) - 5

    Region 24: (3 max) - 3

    Region 30: (6 max) - 5

    Region 31: (5 max) - 5

    6A Area C: 26 (Advance 5 to State)

    Region 2: (6 max) - 6

    Region 3: (13 max) - 12

    Region 21: (4 max) - 3

    Region 25: (6 max) - 5

    6A Area D: 28 (Advance 5 to State)

    Region 8: (7 max) - 5

    Region 12: (11 max) - 10

    Region 18: (6 max) - 6

    Region 26: (8 max) - 7

    6A Area E: 40 (Advance 8 to State)

    Region 13: (9 max) - 7

    Region 17: (9 max) - 9

    Region 23: (14 max) - 12

    Region 27: (15 max) - 12

    6A Area F: 29 (Advance 5 to State)

    Region 9: (9 max) - 9

    Region 10: (1 max) - 1

    Region 19: (12 max) - 7

    Region 33: (13 max) - 12

    6A Area G: 24 (Advance 4 to State)

    Region 14: (4 max) - 4

    Region 15: (14 max) - 12

    Region 28: (8 max) - 8

    6A Area H: 24 (Advance 4 to State)

    Region 11: (9 max) - 9

    Region 29: (10 max) - 10

    Region 32: (5 max) - 5

  9. Looking at the list of 31 possible bands for Area B, I see losing anywhere from 4 to 7 of those. If we lose 6, we still have 25 and can advance 5. If we lose 7+, we can only advance 4 to State.

We won't fully know until after Region 24 has their contest on October 22nd, but the Region 20 and Region 5 contests on October 15 and 18 respectively will be very telling.

  10. Bell, at least on the webcast, was a notable step up from earlier today with a much better musical run. I think we all know winning is out of the question, but would love to see a medal for them.

Absolutely. Tonight's Bell run was hands down incredibly much better than the Prelims run. It is so hard going on that early in the morning, but tonight they showed exactly why they are who they are.

Also, the Commandant's Own was Incredible! Feste Romane and Church Windows to no end!
