  1. I believe it’s Pflugerville ISD’s first medal too. And Del Rio ISD’s.
  2. I think he meant that it’s awesome, simply put (and I agree! Another music caption contender and the show seems a bit more UIL geared than the GN travelers’ shows, although I’m not sure what that’ll mean with design components finally and officially factoring into the rubric and sheets now).
  3. Season is young! We haven’t even had a drumline competition in the state yet ?
  4. Cartwright I’m pretty sure, or someone very close to that sphere of influence unless they changed over the pandemic (doubtful, as they’ve been climbing with good designs from that team).
  5. She of course is, but that doesn’t mean it’s always proper. These are teenagers at the end of the day, and Stony Point is in a kinda weird and probably not fun spot as a sort of odd man out in a district where the bulk of the bands are very successful. It’s one thing when we punch up—nobody’s feelings should be all that hurt by saying (all examples) that Vandegrift is boring and FloMo is stale and CTJ is a mess (but at the very least, *how* those opinions are expressed *here* should matter too!). Those bands and their results speak for themselves above any of our opinions. But going after Stony Point, when the poster is very clearly not a Stony Point parent and likely one of a school near the top of the RRISD pecking order, is probably past the appropriate mark for this forum. Having been a student on this forum (but not admitting to how long ago!), we definitely read it, and sometimes it’s hard for it not to sting a bit. Even if you’re a Hebron or Reagan or TWHS kid.
  6. I imagine Clear Brook takes this without much trouble. But depending on where Clements is, they could certainly challenge too.
  7. Finally got my hands on a CTJ vid and it’s their’s in Austin. It just is. I’m not sure I like the show as much as their 2017 show that also wrecked shop all season, but it might be cleaner now than that one ever got while already being thematically interesting and engaging. One spot in the show somewhat early on loses me, but it’s some of their best design in the last few years, without a doubt.
  8. They’re on higher ground than much of the metro and their community has some of the best flood planning in the area too. They should be okay to compete in a week and a half. They might just lose a day or two of rehearsal.
  9. Understanding that football game videos aren’t perfect, one really interesting and quite unusual thing about Cedar Park is that the visual seems way ahead of the music right now—and generally more involved and complex than it usually is. That’s definitely not the norm for that program, but if their music catches the visual soon, they’ll be dangerous all fall. I haven’t seen Johnson yet, but I have to believe that they and Vandegrift are leading the field. There might be a decent gap before third, which seems incredibly wide open. Considering the normal contenders for that last medal, Vista Ridge is clearly going to be a slow burn this fall, Leander is rebuilding, and Cedar Park is getting their wheels beneath them in a new design style and with relatively fresh staff. On the other hand, Cedar Ridge is consistent, and Round Rock is obviously looking for a surge back to the top 5. Maybe higher! Should be the most exciting Austin in ages—same faces as usual, but much more uncertainty than we’re used to.
  10. The Barber is great, but the Sarcasms drum break is MONEY. Can’t wait for that to clean up.
  11. I would say Lake Travis will not only make finals, but will walk in pretty easily and dark horse for the top half.
  12. There are no guaranteed days for medalists or finals caption winners, but they probably got a Saturday spot on distance.
  13. Wakeland may spoil on the medal podium, but with key director shifts at Highland Park and Burleson Centennial, this is Leander ISD’s to lose. It’s looking a lot like 2015 in that way.
  14. Their school split isn’t super consequential at the end of the day. Wando is still supposed to have a student population of about 4000 students or more. They’ll have plenty of students for a healthy program, and they’re very well taught. The new school, at about 1500 students at full capacity will probably stake out their own path, while not taking too much from Wando.
  15. 6 is hard. Depends on how good you think Wando, Mason, and Blue Springs are. Broken Arrow being on cycle and Tarpon Springs coming throws a massive wrench into things for Texas repeating with 6 or getting to 7.
  16. It’s just as a whole with pretty broad subcaptions on the sheet. As a result, taste and what you’re looking for matters a ton.
  17. CTJ won somewhat comfortably with an ordinal total of 10. Hebron and Flower Mound tied with a total of 18, which Hebron broke. Marcus came close behind with 20, The Woodlands with 22, and Pearland with 24.
  18. I hate that Marcus pulled that time slot. Based on the video I saw, this should have been theirs to lose. I think they'll still medal, but won't be the one they probably should take home.
  19. I might take Wando over Mason (for now) but I don’t think there’s a better six than AvonDad posted. Union came down the year Bedford finals got canceled. But we’ve missed out on many of the other Oklahoma bands. We play nice down here.
  20. I heard this is the week when a number of school districts will announce they’re going non-competitive. Who knows if my rumor mill will bear out, but something to be on the lookout for. I’ve also heard that are a number of other school districts that would be ready to announce a totally non-competitive season as a group, but for one or maybe two schools holding on.
  21. It’s not just one and four on that list alone, either.
