  2. After being present for the absolute DISASTER that occurred last year at Area I - yes it was not only a good idea, it was a great idea and the best choice for all programs and students involved. Other Areas opted to NOT use their back up date this weekend and had to either, cancel finals, have groups get performances delayed, groups get rained on in performance, while others had clear skies, etc. If the option is present for EVERY student to have a more positive Area performance experience, which is the final performance of the show for most programs, it is absolutely the best choice to use the back up date. Also because I was both upset and curious called both the Katy ISD and Cy Fair ISD central offices after the contest last year - all the groups last year that had THOUSANDS of dollars of equipment, mallets, instruments, electronics, etc. get dumped on in the rain, do you know what they were provided by UIL and/or the district to assist with damaged or destroyed equipment? Nothing. Zero extra repair money. Zero replacements for lost equipment. Nothing. Lets not scoff at seeing some clear skies yesterday and using the reschedule date. Just my 2 cents. -------------------- As for the Area Performances tomorrow - I am REALLY looking forward to clear skies, beautiful weather, and amazing performances from all the groups throughout the day and evening. I do think it'll be a 3/2 split between CyFair and Katy schools for the state spots with it being the CyFair schools in the majority in the end with Bridgeland, Cy Woods, and Cy Fair. Then again, you never know with Area I and all the things that happen in performance. Only a couple updates to my Prediction Ranges: Finalists: 1/2) Bridgeland 1/2) Seven Lakes 2/3/4) Jordan 2/3/4) Cypress Woods 3/4/5/6) Cy-Fair 3/4/5/6) JET 5/6/7/8) Cinco Ranch 5/6/7/8) Tompkins Bubble Finalists: 9/10/11) Cypress Ranch 9/10/11) Katy 9/10/11/12) Paetow 9/10/11/12) Langham Creek 10/11/12/13) Jersey Village

  4. Wylie East here, first of all thank all of you for your support, this has been such a great year and we have no intention of stopping here! Yes, it was honestly hard to come to terms with J as a program, but we’ve since accepted it and have decided it doesn’t matter, not really. We know our job, we do our job, and we’re getting so, so much better. We didn’t perform yesterday for a judge, a score, a placement, or a shot at the Dome. We performed for the crowd, and it was clear they loved us for it

Love the fact the Rockwall schools will be heading to state together. Good luck to both! But for Sachse with all the director changes, and running honestly the hardest show by far they've ran in their 21 years as a school, keep y'alls heads high, because yall have so much to grow for and to become a perennial contender in 6A. On my closing note, congrats to Waxahachie, Forney and the coolest show in my opinion, Rockwall, and Heath (for the first time!)

If this area stays the same (PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD), I think we would see the craziest battle between Sachse and the Rockwall schools 😃 for the 3 and the 4... excited to see the sequel of Sachse vs Rockwall Duo 2026.

  10. I would like to congratulate everyone. This area has improved so much. This year was the strongest I've seen in a while. I could definitely see any of the finalist bands make it to state in other areas. Even those that didn't make finals, y'all did amazing. I will say, one thing I don't like about Uil (in general, not just in area c) is the size differences. I get that they do it based on school enrollment but I feel like some of these bands are at a disadvantage. We have 6a bands with 100-150 people and others with close to 300. Sometimes this is due to a low percentage of the school being in the band BUT other times it is due to the school population itself. In Texas we have 6a schools with a little more than 2000 students but since 6a is the largest, we have multiple schools in the 4000s. Including The Woodlands with over 4500. My suggestion is treating it like football with 6a I and 6a II in the playoffs (this case it would be in area). As far as area c, to the bands that didn't make finals, y'all did great. I unfortunately missed a good amount of the earlier bands but one band that truly surprised me was the Garland band. Y'all did great and I think that yalls placement does not properly reflect yalls performance. I do feel bad that Skyline was not able to perform, I was looking forward to watching y'all. And to all the bands that had to perform after the rain, way to face adversity. I don't remember what band it was but I personally saw 3 people fall... and get up and continue. Way to deal with adversity. Speaking of adversity, congratulations to all the bands that had major director changes. Y'all performed great; some of y'all had the success that y'all wanted while others didn't. To those that didn't have the success y'all wanted, remember that next year will probably do better since the new directors will have time to fully run and plan the program how they want. To those that did have the success they wanted, imagine how much better y'all can be next year with stability in the leadership. Ok so now that I've said that, I would like to share some things that I noticed and liked from the finalist bands. I wrote these during the finals performance; I did start halfway though so I did do the bottom five from memory. Also, since all these schools made finals, it is a given that all of y'all had great shows, woodwinds, guard, brass, front ensembles, soloists, and drumlines. Waxahachie- Great woodwinds Forney- WOW (that's all I wrote) I mean everything was great, and to the girl that did all those flips in the wet field, amazing! Rockwall- Marching, it was so clean! Heath- LOUD (wall of sound). SOLID Solos. (congrats on making state for the first time, Enjoy the trip) Sachse- Great use of the whole field, Great Front ensemble North Forney- Great props JJ Pearce- Clean Lake Highlands- Great soft spots. Great Guard Duncanville-Great props, Great Guard Berkner- Great show theme, Great Drumline Also Contacts to our state qualifiers, I just know y'all will represent Area C Great. Go show everyone that Dallas has 3 great areas, not just 2. I would not be surprised if all 4 of our state qualifiers get close to the state finals, probably 1-16. Once again, congrats to everyone.

  15. Kid from Plano ISD here. being in area J as a 2 year school gives us a huge disadvantage even though some schools like PESH that have an IB and adds a good 20+ kids into the it's still a huge disadvantage for west, senior, and east to go up against all the 4 year schools. But just like the Wylie East kid said before " We know our job, we do our job, and we’re getting so, so much better. We didn’t perform yesterday for a judge, a score, a placement, or a shot at the Dome. We performed for the crowd, and it was clear they loved us for it" If the crowd loved it, that's all we care about at the end of the day.

  19. My main concern with this area is the balancing of DFW as a whole, in which if every area was sending about an equal level of talent (or as close to what we can expect), I really wouldnt be too concerned about it. But area J just sends WAY more talent to state than C, which is the bottom line. We will have to see if Waxahachie even makes area finals, but regardless its frustrating that C only sends a single finalist in a given year now while were probably going to see 2/3 medalists from J, and 2-3 finalists from Area B, 2 locked at least. Im not sure what would be the best solution, I think if we ignore geographic location for region zoning, LewisvilleISD being in C with 5-6 state slots while Coppell goes to J with 4 would be my ideal scenario since now area wouldve looked like this: J: Coppell, Prosper, WEast, Wylie C; Hebron Marcus FloMo Waxahachie Forney and/or Rockwall B: Keller TC SLC Bell Now obviously if we JUST did what I said J would only have 3 slots, but even with 3 it would still be a net improvement for representation compared to last and this year, and if they did the medalist rule or decide to lower the amount of area qualifiers needed for state slots then it would be an easy fix (which would also be foundational for 7A). I know people know my alignment with the McKinney schools and may think Im trying to give them a win, but Ill be honest when I say I dont think either of them shouldve made state. They were REALLY good this year but they werent the ones I wanted to represent Js bubble bands. I think in finals WEast and Wylie were PERFECT to represent the middle bubble in state qualifiers, with WEast potentially being in that 20-22 range if they cleaned up the closer and features, and Wylie being in the 22-26 range depending on content scores. I dont want free wins, I want every area to be roughly equal in who we send to area and not have huge disparities from areas not even an hour away from each other.

For finals dont think Waxahachie and Forney are gonna let go of those 2 spots anytime soon. Well actually I take that back. Waxahachie does have a new school that’s expected to be opened in fall of 2027. Time will tell what will happen there. Rockwall, since their 2018 state run have stayed really close to that state qualifier so they’re probably consistent enough to stay around there. Heath ? No finals in 23’, finals in 24’ state in 25’ ….26’ To be continued. the dark horse or horses I feel will come out of one of the Mesquite schools. Idk if it plays a part but their 5A programs are solid. We could very well see all 3 of their 5A go to state this Saturday. Does that put pressure on the 2 in 6A? Idk, but they’re both trending in the right direction. If not Mesquite, I’d say Royse City or Tyler would be the ones to get in. As far as advancing, Waxahachie until the new school opens, Rockwall barring something crazy happening, the 3 and 4? Way too early to tell but I could see a Berkner or a JJ Pearce taking one of those spots. Should be interesting.

  26. finalist predictions in order 1. Flowermound 2. Hebron 3. Vista ridge 4. Vandy 5. Marcus 6. Woodlands 7. Pearland 8. Seven lakes 9. Dripping springs 10. Cedar ridge 11. Coppell 12. Bridgeland 13. Prosper 14. waxahachie Bubble: Westlake, Keller i think vista ridge can medal this year, they look and sound really good. Vandy could also get into the top 2 and maybe even win if things go their way, but I think the top 2-4 is pretty interchangeable. I believe flower mound is clearly the best band in the state so I have them in 1st. Seven lakes is extremely good this year and I think they could do really good in finals this year. Coppell imo isn’t as strong as they have been, but I’m not speaking down on their program and the work they have put in. Prosper beat waxahachie AND keller in boa. That being said, the 2 are obviously judged differently. However, I think prosper could sneak into state finals this year. Waxahachie was 1st out from finals last year and I think they can get back in this year.

  35. I know it is kinda late for a prediction but this is what I think(hope) is gonna be the placements tomorrow- 1st - Pearland, water beats fire 🤷‍♂️ 2nd - Dawson, really good and clean this year but i'm not too sure they can upset Pearland this year 3rd - Dickinson, ALOT cleaner than early season and im sure they can pull a 3rd place 4th - Austin, really like show concept and pipe props + they sound rly good 5th - Clements, I definitely don't go here but they seem pretty good and can def pull a state spot if their run is solid 6th - Foster, they seem really clean and i really like their hits, but they were a little bit late on getting their full show out and got really unlucky with performance time 7th - Clear Brook, it feels illegal to put CB this low, but their low boa rankings kinda worries me 8th - Clear Lake, take this with a super grain of salt because I haven't seen their show but I can guess them to be around 6,7, or 8 9th - Fulshear, tbh i haven't seen their show so maybe they could be higher 10th - Elkins, peak elkins band this year, they can definitely become a major contender for the top 5 if they keep up how they are doing this year, but because this is their first year being exceptionally good, the highest I see them is 9/10 This is a pretty mid ranking and please take with a grain of salt, all these bands stepped it up this year deserve to all advance to state, it is a shame we can only take half.

Sachse is an amazing program and is one of the most consistent programs in the state, so no matter the results from yesterday, every single one of those kids should be proud of the program they've helped build. Director changes are unfortunate, but I'm sure with more stability going into next year, they could very well take that state spot back. They had an incredibly demanding show this year, and they did amazing.

those areas are more predictable, there are DEFINITELY gonna be some unexpected events and upsets within finals. thats the main reason I take this area’s predictions with a grain of salt because especially with this area, there’s no guarantee. I am definitely anticipating what the final results are, as regardless of the outcome I feel it’ll be interesting

  40. I agree. I think the biggest changes from last year will be from the 5th-10th range- probably some new faces in finals. Regardless of how it plays out, I’m super excited to see everyone’s completed shows!

  42. Gonna throw out some crazy predictions and go through all of prelims cause I feel like this year will be super unpredictable and anything could happen (so don’t take me too seriously but i’m not just guessing) 1. Lone Star (Obviously Wakeland could take 1st but i’ve got a good feeling about Lone Star) 2. Wakeland (Duh top 2) 3. Lebanon Trail (Showed up early and proved they want it, don’t think any of the other bands below can beat them) 4. Walnut Grove (I haven’t seen anyone put them this high but despite show design they’re performing at a very high level and some of their individual captions reflect that despite placements) 5. Argyle (Same as WG regarding show design, but they’re still very good) 6. Reedy (So much improvement, clean, nice sound. See them bouncing back from last year. Could overtake Argyle and WG but i’m feeling them in 6th even though they had some great results early season) 7. Emerson (Same as Reedy. Insane progress in whatever amount of time it was since MMI. Could actually see them getting higher if the improvement doesn’t stop and the performance quality increases) 8. Mckinney North (I know, very hot take. Not to say anything bad about the program but I just don’t feel it this year for them. A ton of other bands in this area showed they can beat them) 9. Independence (Also same as Reedy and Emerson. Not overrated but I think they’ll land around this range. 8th could happen, but 10th could also. Love the brass) 10. Liberty (Very solid. Again, not overhyped, but I see a solid 10th from them, don’t see a world where they are out of finals but also don’t really see them above these other schools) 11. Heritage (Good band but in a very tough area. I can’t see them above Liberty and that means I see them just outside of finals. Also not sure how they got a 2 at UIL) 12. Melissa (Love the music, visually somewhat weak and lacking in difficulty but I love their sound and ballad soloists) 13. Lovejoy (Small but nice show) 14. Memorial (Nice program, director change affected them I think) 15. Centennial (Haven’t seen them since showcase but this feels somewhat right for them) 16. Anna (Like lovejoy, small, very unique design but not bad at all) 17. Frisco 18. Denison 19. Sherman 20. Ryan 21. Denton If you disagree that’s fine but i’m somewhat going wild here. Not entirely though, as I do feel like this could really happen. Obviously the most flexibility is in that 4-8 range, where honestly any of those bands could take the 4th spot with the right mindset going into this last week. And like everyone is saying, deeply sorry for the people at TC unfairly affected by this. Would’ve had them in that back half of finals range, excited to see them next year!

Pack it up? Time to for that program to give up any hope of making state? What do you mean? This is a mean spirited comment. This area is truly unexciting. You have 2 state champions, 1 bubble band for state finals, and Lake Travis, which is a fine program, but not yet at the same level as the top 3. If there's gonna be a band falling out of the top 4, realistically it'd be LT, and the band taking its place would realistically be Brandeis. It's kinda the ONLY interesting point of conversation in this area. Now, I actually believed both were weaker this year, so I thought another band might take their place. Looks like they had weaker early season performances (though I wouldn't call TMC early season). I'm not in favor of redistricting btw. Vandy and Vista likely won't be as dominant in 20 years. Westlake has been up there forever so they might tbh. Marshall used to be a powerhouse for UIL (their 1990 show could still make state finals). Taft has made BOA SA finals (given it wasn't a super regional then). O'Connor was a bubble band for SA Finals in the early 2010s. You never know where the next powerhouse will be.

As a kid from a finalist band in this area that didn't make state, it is VERY difficult. It really hard to not feel like a disappointment or a failure in this area when you don't make the top 4, but its also important to have perspective. its easy to feel hopeless, but there are bands in this country that dream of being half as funded or big or strong as the bands in this area. I do also think that making area j was a mistake, its very unfair to the kids that are working so hard and deserve to have the opportunity to go to state, however in this area its just hopeless for anyone outside the top 4.
