  6. The bands were great ... McKinney North show is another jazzy Broadway show..... Lone Star sounds great... their woodwinds are killing it this year in my opinion since last year.... the brass is sounds amazing full rich tones... they are still working on their drill.... which makes me nervous..... they really need to step it up and get things going..... they're running behind in my opinion.... since their drill isn't done there's a lot of park and bark....

  7. Well since I can’t go to Melissa anymore, I’ll be watching all of prelims instead on Box, so I’m very excited for the weekend. Anyways, here’s my guess: 1. Vista Ridge (music/GE) 2. Vandy (visual) 3. Rouse 4. Cedar Park 5. Cedar Ridge 6. Dripping Springs 7. Leander 8. Westlake 9. Round Rock 10. Lake Travis 11. Westwood 12. McCallum I have no clue how this will turn out. I could it going soooo many ways, and the gaps are my somewhat interchangeable preds. Vista has really impressed me so far and honestly seem to be a big cleaner than Vandy rn. I think GE will be the thing that may hurt CP the most, but musically and visually very strong. Haven’t seen Rouse but u know. Very excited for Saturday and hope everyone has a great week of rehearsal!!

  11. Most interesting head to head I see coming out of this competition I think will be the Emerson/Heritage vs Panther Creek battle. Emerson/Heritage has been competing with the Area B 5A bands the past few years, but I was impressed with Panther Creeks state performance last year. I tend to try to wait until first round of competitions finish before making many public predictions, but I would not be shocked to see Panther Creek getting the silver here.

Given my nephew's involvement in the band, I offer constructive criticism, although I acknowledge he might not relish it, because I am eager to see the band thrive and become a formidable competitor, particularly against Wakeland. Additionally, the color guard demands considerable refinement, as its present condition may compromise the band's future success.

  14. Just saw recordings of Walnut, Reedy, and Emerson. Reedy was pretty solid, but Walnut and Emerson really surprised me. Huge improvements since the previous runs I saw, and honestly think either could really surprise and do super highly this year, like 5-7 and possibly 4th

  24. At the Cinco vs 7lakes game we were going to do both movements one and two but ran out of time, we had 8th grade night, but this week we will have both of them on the field.

  25. Got to watch some more soundless videos. I don't have a subscription, so I'm reliant on charity. 😅 Flower Mound looks great -- definitely more in line with their 2023 and 2024 shows than, say, 2022. And it seems like they may have performed nearly the full thing. Lots of cubist (?) faces backfield, and a couple of neat stages that get moved around, but my favorite are the mobiles that they carry, with the dangling face parts. They're like ghostly, disassembled faces floating throughout the drill. It's very cool. The drill is classic FloMo. It commands the full space of the field, with lots of aesthetically appealing folding files and long follow-the-leaders. Not the most demanding thing compared to, say, Vandegrift. They don't fly around as much. But I think they'll be able to get it very clean, which is an effect in itself. I think they're going to have another great season. I don't know what Cedar Ridge's show is called -- I'd have to go back and check -- but it seems horror-adjacent, with blood-shot eyes backfield and the guard in blood-red burkas, or something that resembles a burka. (Cloaks, let's say that.) They're moving around a bunch of shark-fin-looking things that make the field quite craggy, I suppose. It's all kinda gothic feeling, just based on the visual. It reminds me positively of that gargoyle show they did a couple years ago. They seem to be reaching a place of consistent quality again.

  30. I know their is a hype train for them and all. But I have to agree with this. The video isn't honestly that really impressive to me. Not to hate i like the lemons show design but I didn't think it was as clean as it's placed.

  34. It sucks that BOA-SM is pulling some of the talented schools away, especially the SA programs, but this contest is still so loaded. It's going to be a lot of fun. I like this prelim time for CP, and with a bye the night before the kids will be well rested. Last year it seems like there were a lot of very early call times following late night football games. Both of my kids were absolutely exhausted from about September 15th through November 20th. Took 'em several days to recover after Grand Nats. It was an amazing experience (for the kids AND for the parents!) but honestly I'm glad we'll never have to do that again.

  35. From what I understand UIL takes a snapshot of attendance in the fall and uses that number to determine placement. Placement is for 2 years I believe. So, if I am correct, attendance this fall would impact alignment for 2026-2028. Those with more expertise, please feel free to correct any issues with my limited understanding

  36. Dawson probably will miss state with this show. A lot dirtier then they have come out before. I have heard it is an "off year" for them.

This is true but there are only around 4 really strong programs in Area H that will obv make state, as for B, lots of competition as the North Texas region is full of prodigy's. (Frisco, Plano, Wylie, Lewisville, Mckinney etc.) But when it is Lone Star and Wakland against CP and Rouse, the Leander schools come out on top. I personally believe Wakeland has a strong shot at 3rd place this year. They deserved it last year.
