Everyone needs to calm down. The situation is very sad for the kids, everyone can agree with that. To say it's a lesson for life is a little bit much, I'm sure the kids are already upset, there's no need to be rude about it. Yes, there was a penalty administered, but there is no way to tell what happened unless you performed in the show. This drama needs to settle down.

It is enforced at Area and State Prelims, but not State Finals.

I completely disagree with this, we've seen some weakness start to show in Wakelands program. Lone Star and and Forney have beaten them in music, this competition wouldn't have just been a lock. I really think that Lone Star has(had?) a good chance of beating them if not coming very very close to it. Duncanville should be a good competition for them though.

If I was a wakeland kid I would much rather go to duncanville invitational then area. No competition for them at area would be a free win.

That’s why I said life goes on. Everyone wants to make it all dramatic like someone got cheated. I’m also saying everyone should settle down. Hopefully the director will use it as a teaching/learning experience. I have watched the video back multiple times, so I know what happened. We went over time. We were penalized. Now life goes on. It’s not being rude. I have compassion for my kids feelings. It’s sad for them. But it’s not life-altering. That’s all I was trying to convey.

I agree, but I would still say that if wakeland had another mediocre run, it would be very possible for lone star to swoop in on them and come pretty close to winning.

As great as Lone Star is I don’t think they’d have beaten Wakeland. They immediately rectified their poor music performance to sweep all music captions in finals. Looks like they cleaned up those weaknesses pretty quickly. Wakeland was also four points ahead of Lone Star at Bedford. Great work to Lone Star this season, but I think Wakeland had it in the bag had they competed here.

Somebody is happy that Wakeland didn’t make area

I feel like 7 judges wouldn’t be needed(it would be hard to find that many for each area) but maybe they did different sheets? Like for marching do individual and ensemble, and for music maybe individual ensemble and percussion, or I guess woodlands brass and percussion, but I feel like them doing more like state wouldn’t hurt, it’s just they’ve been doing the 5 sheets for so long, but I know a LOT of people don’t agree with how area judging is, but UIL is doing their best.

Results from Region 31 are in. No surprises, but here are the updated #'s: 21 with 1's: Arlington, Cedar Hill, Lake Ridge, Legacy, Mansfield, Martin, Paschal, South Grand Prairie, Boswell, Keller Central, Chisholm Trail, Fossil Ridge, Keller, North Crowley, Timber Creek, Weatherford, Southlake Carroll, Coppell, Haltom, LD Bell, Trinity, 7 remaining bands certain to score 1 at Region: Berkner Lake Highlands Highlands Park Duncanville Waxahachie Richardson JJ Pearce 2 or more needed from these 5 to have 12 Area Finalists and 6 advance to State: DeSoto (1-1-1 last year) Nimitz (1-1-1) MacArthur (2-1-1) Irving (2-1-2) Skyline (DQ'd) DeSoto and Nimitz will almost certainly get 1's again, so the chances of 30 total bands (or more) is high!

wouldn't put it at horrendous, but at least don't give them a division 1 rating at first. all the wakeland kids thought they were going to this competition just to have it changed up on them last second, although i would say it is technically "fair" if you think about it straight on but i do see where people are coming from when they argue that it isn't. at the end of the day it did happen, and the band won't get the chance to go whether people think it's fair or not. excited for duncanville with wakeland though for sure

It seems like it happens to some band every year - technical issues delay the start of the show and result in a time violation and a 2 at Region. I've always wondered if there would be some wisdom in the band setting up an emergency ripcord signal. Have the band pre-determine an emergency stopping point, like before the last part of the show - a place where they would have stopped before they had the entire show on the field earlier in the season. When there is an issue like that delaying the start, the director tells the drum majors and they give a signal to the band right before starting the show so that everyone knows they are stopping short. Is that at all feasible? Just a thought in my head.

So leandermomma moves to Bentonville and they suddenly get 3rd at St. Louis???? They’ve made finals before but never that high!

UIL rules are clear. They never should have given 1’s to begin with. Wakeland went over time. They get 2’s. The show is too long for UIL. There should have been cuts to make it compatible with the rules. The show is 8:20. The time allowed is 8:00. (Other times their show has been clocked at 8:45 if the tempo dragged.) It was poor planning.

Because they are going to Grand Nats, they have chosen to go to BOA Waco that weekend instead.

The scenario is with three music judges, lone star comes out on top musically, like they did at boa dfw.

I believe they dropped Duncanville and are attending Area.

We’ll agree to disagree, I just really can’t see a scenario where Lone Star could get close to the level Wakeland is at right now. Lone Star will continue to grow but for this season at least we’ve seen Wakeland have a bad run (Bedford Prelims) and still place solidly ahead several groups.

I think it’s ridiculous that they were told they were going to be able to perform at area and then get it taken away from them. I cant imagine how those kids must be feeling right now. The timing rules are not tailored for all bands and it is not their fault that their show was a little longer than 8 minutes. For a band that is doing so well this season I personally think it’s super unfair that they were given sweepstakes just to get it taken away. Yeah there were technical issues but that wasn’t their fault either.

Man that is brutal for Wakeland. They would've won here easily, but now that they won't be participating that opens the door for a couple different programs at the top. Good thing it isn't a 5A State year.

Wakeland might have had some technical issues but went over way more than that. I was in attendance and I would say they where at least 1 minute over time.y And if you time their DFW BOA performance their show is already over 8 minutes. I think they simply gambled and lost. It's also worth to mentioned that they initially got a sweepstake 1 rating which wasn't charged until this afternoon.

Just heard the news about Wakeland. Although I think it's HORRENDOUS that they aren't getting the chance at Area, it's good to see them going to another contest to end their season

Incase anyone is interested there's currently 19 bands that received 1's with Rockhill not having a score on texasmusicforms but I'm gonna assume they got a 1 so 20 bands. There's 12 bands in Region 3 so it's looking pretty solid for 6 bands to make state. Only band of the 12 to not make a 1 last year was Naamen Forest.

I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about this Area. This area is so stacked, there is potential here for a band like Bowie or Westwood to not even advance to State.

Yesterday, a post on facebook started making the rounds and caught some steam. A person, (I say this because they honestly seem like a bot) had pics from Cedar Ridge's show and guard and went on a tirade about how the "devil," was being incorporated in our schools. This person stated that the school district was trying to teach our kids devil worship. She posted the phone numbers of the band director, head of RRISD fine arts and all of the email addresses of the school board members. This person did stated that when she spoke to the director, that he told her that they were gargoyles, not devils. Of course, they weren't satisfied with that answer. Last time I saw the post, it had been shared over 100 times before they took it down, however, someone else copied the post and reshared the details verbatim. I've made it known that I am a RRISD parent. Well I was since my kiddo graduated. But I still support all of the fine arts in the district. They have done a phenomenal job and do an outstanding job with their bands. I'm beyond pissed that some folks have nothing better to do with their time than to cause trouble. I post this here so that #1, the folks at Cedar Ridge can know that a TON of us current parents and former parents have your back! #2, we can help educate some of these folks who don't understand what a gargoyle is, and kindly point out that all over churches and buildings in Christian churches across the world have gargoyle statues placed in them.

Except the OP wasn't just praising a program. They brought up whether or not Westlake was the favorite to win and mentioned some other programs that could challenge. @yayband914 replied with another band to watch out for. No need to be peeved in this situation.

Some equipment broke apparently so they had to delay their start, and UIL says no exceptions.

Apparently Wakeland went over time at Region and got 2’s so they’re not going to be at area.
