LeanderMomma Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 As information becomes public knowledge, can we begin listing who all is losing their directors and/or gaining new directors for the fall? My head is spinning with all of the proposed changes, some of which may or may not be public knowledge yet. I would just like to start a thread where we can talk about each of the changes happening this year as they come up. First of all, I'm so curious how Marcus will do without Amanda Drinkwater at the helm. Was she a major marching influence, or did she leave that to her assistants and focus more on the concert side of things? Will this hurt Marcus or not affect them at all? I guess we will have to wait and see. And there are others as well. All I know for sure is that Leander doesn't seem to be losing or gaining anyone this fall. Maybe... Quote
JeremiahW Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 I'm very interested to see how Hendrickson does with the loss of some of their big directors and designers. Quote

Yes, I just heard about that a few hours ago. Makes me sad for Hendrickson. They were on fire last fall! So now the director is at Bowie???? What happened to the previous director at Bowie? And who is taking over the Hawk Band? Too much to keep straight. Rudedog34 1 Quote

That's interesting since Bowie just lost their head director to Tom Glenn just two years ago. Quote
SamuelCulper Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Vista Ridge will have two new associate directors. One has been announced: Reid Atkinson, currently head director at Grain Valley, MO. He will be the main man for the field show at Vista. Quote
Marching Observer Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 There certainly seems to be a lot of turnover in TX this year so it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out especially since it is a state year for several groups. Will groups opt to implement a UIL or BOA style? That gap has been slowly shrinking but something to think about. Could be a fairly conservative year with groups playing safe to set up their systems. Amusicman Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 The new Marcus head director is Jeff Jones, the current head director at North Mesquite. He has posted a letter on the North Mesquite band Facebook page announcing his new job. Quote

Rudedog34 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 Mr. G has been one of the best and is well respected at Hendrickson. He and Duffy made a great combo. G has always been positve when it comes to Bowie, so when he anounced that he would be moving there, personally, it wasn't a surprise. It may take some time, but G is a good thing for Bowie. I'll be rooting for them. Hope they have a great 2018. Hendrickson should be ok. The past three or four years has been really successful and the 2018/2019 seniors, juniors and softmores along with the amazing feeder schools supplying a wave of talented musicians have got the experience, the talent and desire to keep the ball rolling. It's up to the district to find the right leader for the program. LeanderMomma 1 Quote

Nny14 Posted May 10, 2018 Posted May 10, 2018 His oldest child is graduating from Vista Ridge. Ah. I knew it was some school that made me think why he just didn't teach there. Quote
blueraspberries Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 I heard that Richland's main director is leaving, one of their two assistant director's baby was born recently, and the other assistant director's baby is due soon. After a very good season and making state, I was interested in seeing the direction they would go, but after this major change and them moving to 6A...I'm not so sure. Quote

After a very good season and making state, I was interested in seeing the direction they would go, but after this major change and them moving to 6A...I'm not so sure. The marching band director for Richland is moving into the head director position, so I don't really foresee any big shakeups with Richland. Quote
principalagent Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Yep, knew that was coming. Heard he took a higher position in the administration Quote

MadisonBandMan1 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Well this was announced publicly to us yesterday although everyone knew for a while, so now I can say it here, but we are losing one of our assistant directors to a middle school out of town, so there is an opening there (but apparently they got 30 applications just on the first day sooo...), and we have 3 new marching techs for the fall season, which has been public for a while. MadisonBandMan1 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 And that was about the longest run-on sentence I have ever written in my life. Grr. Quote
herbaflerb Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Yep, knew that was coming. Heard he took a higher position in the administration You are correct. He has moved on to bigger things at the district level. I’ll miss him quite a bit. Quote
RenMacnary Posted June 10, 2018 Posted June 10, 2018 Jack Green, long-time Director at Westwood has just retired. His 2nd director, Thomas Turpin, is moving up to head position. 3rd Director, Brittany Dacy, is moving up to 2nd spot. So not a lot of change over for the students, and I think the whole community is excited for the change. I KNOW Jack is! Well deserved! Quote
LeanderMomma Posted June 11, 2018 Author Posted June 11, 2018 Lots of changes it sounds like. But lots of good ones. Quote

The 3rd director has been announced, Brandon Winters (was a tech for a bit while I still went there), director at Jack C. Hays, is taking that spot. Turpin was the main catalyst to Westwood's growth as a marching band; so Green's absence, while he'll be greatly missed, will probably not have any direct changes to the marching program. Quote
