Yeah...the drill design is baffling. The kids can do SO much better than what they were given to work with unfortunately.

Yup, that's the part that makes me the angriest. They're probably being yelled at day after day to clean something that is virtually uncleanable.

That said "elephant in the room" band.........  don't count them out yet.  It ain't over till it's over.

Of course not. Anything can happen. Also, there are realities that will play out and likelihoods that are already in play. And this is a trend that started years ago. Do the research and you will see it. Not saying I want this, but I can see it and I have seen it coming for a long time. I actually really want to see this change for them very much.

Why in the world would you be "angry" - unless you are part of that band which I'm assume your not.   "They" which I'll assume you mean the kids ARE doing the best they can with what they are given - props and electrical mishaps - not their fault.    "Being yelled at" is a pretty strong accusation that again is  rude and disrespectful.    Period.

Don't hide behind "I'm allowed to have opinions" - what you said wasn't an opinion it was a rude comment. "your bad"

Nothing was said about the band's performance ability, which if I'm correct in assuming which band we're speaking about, is at a high level. Sometimes you have to be honest and admit when a show design isn't fantastic. Of course the way he said it was blunt and to the point, but I don't think it was rude.

I WAS part of that band. I agree, the kids are doing their best as they always do. I understand the events that have happened are not in their control, nor have I blamed it on them. I'm simply calling out a product that I don't think is very good, competitively or just enjoyable in general. Again, NOT because of the kids. As for the yelled at part I didn't mean to imply the kids are being verbally abused in any sort of way. The educators there are great people and have always been respectful to the students, so I apologize for that exaggeration. However, I will not apologize for my feelings on the product this year. The reality is design is THE most integral part of a successful marching band show, and there is only so much effort from the kids that will improve that.

Very rude and disrespectful.

I don't think he meant any disrespect, he was merely commenting on the quality of the show itself, not of the directors, of the students, or of anyone else involved in this program. A bad show can severely limit any good band's ability to compete. I think that was his main point. We are likely advocates of your program way more than you know.

Thank you. I'm definitely a blunt person, I'll acknowledge that. Just know I take no pleasure in harping on their chances of success, but realistically that's just the current situation.

Old proverb: it's not what you say..it's how you say it.   My oldest son was part of the band during the Raven = so yes, I have a soft spot for this band.  I know that those kids read these forums and trust me, they do not need to be told their show is a bad.  Who does that knowing that?   The adult thing would have been If your going to say something negative, try to at least say something positive.  I'll agree that it seems to be taking it's time to get to peak and there has been some missteps along the way - but they have one of the best drum lines in Texas and the tenor split during Two zoos is incredible along with the baritone solo.  Who wouldn't  smile during that set?

Agreed. As a CR Alumni, I have a lot of friends in the program, and they're kinda like our sister school, and I know the absurd level of talent in there, so I have no doubt they'll still find success this year. They're hardworking kids.

Exactly. It's not fair to these kiddos to crap all over their shows when we can clearly see they're putting their best foot forward regarding performing.
