Given that the judges themselves didn’t find them too distracting I’d have to chalk this one up to “skill issue”.

 I gotta say that I am such a Cedar Ridge fan and I can’t ever take my eyes off their guard. They just do such an incredible job incorporating them into the fabric of the show. The band seems bigger this year which makes me happy. I love this show!

Some of my favorites of the night were Cedar Ridge and Dripping Springs. Dripping Springs is cooking up something really good this year to get them into Nats finals. Cedar Ridge just blew me away with their visual package for their show. I wish they had gone on a little bit later into the night, so I could have gotten the full effect of it. Also, both groups had some of the best guards I saw today, with Cedar Ridge having their guard spin and toss with those vails on for most of the show during prelims, which looks really impressive from the audience perspective, and Dripping Springs Guard doing some of the most challenging rifle and sabre work that I saw at the whole contest

Excited to see both groups at san antonio and state

Of all the placements, Cedar Ridge surprised me the most.  I thought their show was great

I said something similar to this after their prelims run, but I think this show is one they're going to grow into over the season. It's probably my favorite show I've seen so far this season design-wise, and leans into all of my favorite things Cedar Ridge been doing recently, stark visuals, killer percussion moments, atmospheric music and a heavy focus on the guard. I just think it holds a bit more challenge musically than some of their other shows have this early on. Once there's some more ironing out I think it'll really start to shine. 

I'd also like to say I thought Round Rock's show was pretty compelling on second watch! Some of the quieter musical moments hold a little bit of apprehension at the moment, but if they lock it down, it'll be special. I think both them and Dripping Springs have a huge amount of room to add awesome visual components to align with their themes and also have the room in the design to grow to be rad shows. 

It felt to me like they were the three shows at this event that were oozing potential, and I really hope it gets realized!

Is it just me or did cedar ridge get way too low of a placement? There were definitely some small problems but they were my favorite of the night, not to mention bottom half and losing to both Westwood and westlake, who they dominated at Waco last year.

CR was absolutely great but Westlake was on a different level Saturday. Also, no need to throw shade towards other programs here.

Sincere question, how is their comment throwing shade? Seemed like a simple comparison based on historical results.

Oh one other thing I meant to mention about the contest-- it was interesting hearing Westwood's version and then CP's version of Children Will Listen from Into The Woods, in back-to-back prelims performances, no less.

They were clearly very different arrangements, and it was fun to hear how each show arranger interpreted the music and incorporated it into the show.

I have to say I absolutely love our ballad, it's probably my favorite since my kids started at CP.  Watching the band come out of that into a much more upbeat and chaotic Part 4, is going to be a lot of fun.

I am looking at the scoresheets for the first time and see some weirdness for Vista Ridge.

In Finals, Vista was 8th in individual music, after placing 2nd in Prelims. 

The judge that had them 8th was judging Music GE in prelims and had Vista 8th there as well. The 2nd judge doing Music GE had them 5th. In Finals, their Music GE scores totaled to 2nd.

8th is the lowest placement Vista got from any judge, and they got it from the same judge twice. 🤔

Yeah, before the results I expected Vista to take the music caption and Vandy to take visuals and general effect. That single score took second place and the caption away from them

Also in finals, Vista scored 1st in Music Ensemble while that judge had them in 8th for Music Individual. Placing 1st in Ensemble with an 8th place Individual score seems like it would be quite remarkable.

It's going to be very disappointing if that same judge is at BOASA.
