What do u wanna be when u "grow up"?
Keyboard_Countessa replied to thesnareguy's topic in General Off-Topic
I know I want to major in Psychology, but not so sure about after that. Probably something research- or teacher-related. And since I still want band to be a part of my life, maybe I'll marry a band director. -
Since we're always being told to "play louder" during marching season, I can see how mics for the pit would help. But it also means more stuff for us to lug around and the chance of stuff going wrong in the form of "electronic difficulties".

One of the things I love the most about being a percussionist is getting to play really cool ensemble pieces. In the 7th grade we played a piece called "Fresh Trash" on trashcans. We painted our sticks neon-green and lit the stage with black lights so they glowed. That same year we also played "Chiquita Express"; we decorated the stage with tropical stuff, wore leies, and during a drum break all the mallet players danced. My favorite from the 8th grade would have to be "Dance of the Wind-Up Toy", just because I love the way it sounds. So far my favorite piece from high school would be "Phantom Dances", which I played my freshman year in winter drumline. It was a challenge, but well worth the effort, and plus it gave me a chance to get to know some of the upperclassmen better and vice versa. So... what are some of your favorite percussion ensembles that you've seen/heard?

Solo & Ensemble

We finally got our ensemble music this week. "Fugue in G" by Bach. It's an all-mallet ensemble, and I get to play vibes. -

I'm just glad they showed the bands at halftime! Oh, and Go Longhorns! (I'll probably be saying that a lot next year since I'll be a freshman at UT.)

I come on here every few days to see what's up, but what w/ school and all I can usually only log on and post once or twice a week.

You answered "yes" to 45 of 208 questions, making you 78.4% band/corps pure (21.6% band/corps corrupt); that is, you are 78.4% pure in the band/corps domain. Odd... I thought that being in drumline for so long would surely make me more corrupt than that...

After many months of searching through various stores, a slightly disappointing birthday and the anticipation of Christmas, I finally got what I've been hoping to get for a very long time. A Care Bear. (I never had one when I was little. And they're cute. I like cute things. )

I got their latest CD this Christmas... 'tis very cool. I think my favorite is "Christmas Canon" just b/c I totally love Canon in D in any shape or form!

I actually surprised myself and watched some of the game (I'm not much of a football fan). Then again, I was mostly watching so I could catch glimpes of the bands . Anyway, since our school actually played Katy early on in the playoffs (and lost, obviously), it was kind of cool to see them in action again. Congrats to both teams for a great game.

Ohhh, I would love it if that happened! Last year it was so awesome b/c it's the closest I've ever been to a white Christmas!! *sigh* -
Solo & Ensemble

For my solo I'm doing a 4-mallet piece called Monograph IV. As for my ensemble... I have no idea. Our percussion director handles all the percussion ensemble stuff, but he hasn't given us any music yet and probably won't until after the holiday break. -
