This is unbelievable... not only does our team not suck this year, but we're first in district! We might make it to the playoffs! I don't want to go to playoffs! That means more football games for band to go to, and I want marching season to end when it's supposed to so I can better focus on other stuff like region music and drum corps auditions. [/rant]

Katy Band Contest
Keyboard_Countessa replied to mnkyman's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I'd do that if I could only find their website... both the district site and Google have failed me. My BD is supposed to be getting me a copy of the schedule. If no one else has found anything by then I'll go ahead and post it. -

For two years we had 3 concert band classes, a colorguard class and a percussion class during marching season. One year instead of 3 concert bands we had a brass class, a woodwind class and regular Symphonic Band. This year they split up the percussion class so battery has it one period and pit another.

Wow... I am so jealous.

Made it back home, and the worst thing that happened is that our yard and pool were a mess. But at least I had a house to come back to! We don't have school today or tomorrow, which means we'll have about 3 days to learn and memorize the music and drill for our show's 3rd movement before our first contest on Saturday. Yeah, something tells me the BDs will be in a really good mood this week.

I thought the same thing when I bought that shirt . And if you think cymbal glove tans are hot, you should see my mallet tan! (The back of my hand is tan but the tops of my fingers that curl around my mallets are completely white.) -
Our homecoming got rescheduled to Oct. 1st too, which is the same day as our first contest (Galena Park Invitational). I seriously doubt our school will change it just for the band, though. At least we're going to the contest early in the morning!

My family and I evacuated to stay with family in Dallas. It took us 9 hours just to get to Montgomery! Our homecoming was supposed to be this weekend... in fact, were it not for the hurricane I'd be at the football stadium in my uniform right now. But at least there might be not quite as much damage now that the storm's moved more east. I hope everyone affected stays safe.

This semester 1) Economics (why do they give me the most boring class right at the beginning of the day when I'm in no condition to think?) 2) AP Psychology (I LOVE this class! I'm gonna major in psych. at college) 3) Newspaper (access to computers at school means I can post here whenever I want, like right now ) 4) AP English IV (I always want to fall asleep in this class since it's right after lunch) 5) BAND! (pit percussion gets their own class period, cuz we're special!) 6) AP Calculus AB (equivalent to one semester of college calculus) Next semester 1) Fine arts student assistant (i.e. more time in the band hall ) 2) AP Calculus AB 3) Newspaper 4) Symphonic band (our top concert band) 5) AP English IV 6) AP U.S. Government

Definitely love the Killers. And not just their music. I swear, their lead singer is the most beautiful human being in the world! [/end fangirl mode]

A good one for me might be "Devil in Disguise" by Elvis. Just because I'm shy, quiet and a goody-two-shoes doesn't mean I don't have an evil side.
-
That gives me lots of evil thoughts... like buying the Cavaliers' pit and making them my minions! *insert fangirly evil laughter*

I'm not sure if our band has always done this and I just never noticed or if it's a new trend, but a lot of the different sections in the band have special dances they do for drum cadences. The sousas do a sort of swing thing, the flutes row their flutes (think rowboats) or do "the shower", the color guard has hand motions, the trumpets/mellos have a weird version of the Macarena, and some of the saxes just spaz out. And one of our lovely and talented drum majors has a very "unique" conducting style for when we play Shout it Out... the football team loves it.

SENIORS!!
Keyboard_Countessa replied to cookie_monster's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
This is one of the reasons I liked being an underclassmen: you always have next year to look forward to. But now that I'm a senior I'll be leaving all the great stuff about high school band, and I'm really going to miss it (and I'm sure the BDs will miss me when it comes to organizing the percussion room ). I'm sure that when I do band in college (or drum corps, depending on how my audition for Revolution goes) I'll have even more great experiences, but none of it will be like what I'm doing right now. -

"We will be playing the second movement of the show at the football game." That's what they told us last week... never happened. Wonder if it'll be true this week. I guess I'll find out, since tomorrow's game day.

"release the penguins"!! I love it!

The Daily Show ROCKS!!! I don't really watch any specific genre. My tastes range from Law & Order: SVU to Teen Titans to Animal Planet!
-
My BD used to have that posted in his office window! It's nice to see it again, and now I can actually read what it says! ("If arm falls off, reattach and play much slower" )

Keyboard_Countessa replied to TRtrumpet's topic in General Off-Topic
--when the BD tells you that we won't be going to a drumline contest this year b/c it's the same day as homecoming and the only way we could go was if we all met at the band hall at 5 a.m., and you're disappointed -- ...until you realize that you can still go as a spectator
