Galena Park ISD Invitational
Keyboard_Countessa replied to mbui's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Yes, they are going to GN, which makes it ultra-exciting that my old high school (Cy-Creek) scored above them! -
Funny corps rivalries within your band
Keyboard_Countessa replied to QuadraticBeats's topic in Drum Corps Forum
I wanted to get one at this year's DCI Southwestern but none really appealed to me. I'm more than happy with my Bluecoats hoodie . I didn't really know that many people in my band that were really into DCI. Well, there were a couple of people who marched Revolution, bu we didn't talk much. -
Crossmen Announce First Staff Additions
Keyboard_Countessa replied to Moose's topic in Drum Corps Forum
While I'm glad to hear about some of the staff, this announcement just makes me more eager as to who will be on the percussion staff. -
This. Is. The. ULTIMATE. Coolness!! I always thought Texas wouldn't get a Div. I corps until Revolution had properly matured and evolved over the course of several season. The possibility of a current Div. I corps relocating to Texas totally slipped my mind! Makes me wish I had the resources to try out...

I was looking at my high school band's website recently, and their first contest is the Foster Drumline Contest on the 30th. The same drumline contest that we didn't go to last year. My senior year. It made me sad.

UT vs. North Texas this Saturday. This is the first time in 4 years that I have the option of not going to football games since I'm not in the university's marching band. I feel sad, now.

The heat.
Keyboard_Countessa replied to QuadraticBeats's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
If I recall, the only time the drill team brought the band popsicles was after practice on the day of the UIL marching contest. They'd also make a banner that said something like "Good Luck Band!". They were okay. -
I must admit I'm relieved; a Laguna Beach-esque show about band would just be plain painful to watch. Now if someone were to do a band show like "Totally in Tune" (an old Disney Channel series about kids at a performing arts school), that would be good.

I think it's safe to say I was extremely biased when voting for this particular poll.

I have the same feelings about this as when I heard about "American Pie: Band Camp". I want to see it because it's about band, but I don't want to see it because it's MTV.

In high school the biggest rivalry I know of was against Cy-Fair, but it was (mostly) friendly. Now that I've graduated I get to experience UT's rivalries against A&M and OU. (HOOK 'EM HORNS! )

For I though I would try out for the new senior corps in Austin, but then I found out they won't be active until 2007-08. I'd like to see if I could try out for Revolution, but the only way I could do that is if I found someone up at UT who's auditioning and willing to drive me to San Antonio (I won't have a car on campus). Of course, I could always try out for a Houston-area DCA corps and "visit" home a lot for their spring camps. All in all, it will require much thought.

DCI Div II World Championship Results
Keyboard_Countessa replied to euro_euph06's topic in Drum Corps Forum
Danpod has a point... it may be disappointing now that Revolution got 2nd, but 2nd is still pretty darn good. I eagerly await to see how just how far they'll go next season. -
DCI Division I World Championship Finals
Keyboard_Countessa replied to mbui's topic in Drum Corps Forum
I'm rejoice-ful for the Cavaliers, shocked and awed by Phantom's bunny hop into second, and conflicted over the fact Bluecoats finished in the top 5 and SCV didn't. -
As far as I know, Cy-Creek's line is as follows: 4 snares 2 tenors 5 basses 8ish pit I'm not sure about the pit numbers since I don't know if any double-reed players will be in the pit this year.

Its Official....DCI Headed To INDY For 10 YEARS
Keyboard_Countessa replied to euro_euph06's topic in Drum Corps Forum
Wow. *Adds "visit Indianapolis" on list of Things to Do In Life.* -
Yay for SCV breaking 90! As for making it inot the top 5 for finals, I'm crossing my fingers...

"Hey band!" "Hey what!" "This is ___." "Hi, ___!" "S/he's a [officer]." *yelling* "S/he's a [grade]." *yelling from [grade]* "S/he plays the [instrument]" *cheering from [instrument]*, trombones: "TROMBOOOOOOOONE!" (they do that no matter what the person plays ) "And his/her favorite cereal/cartoon/ice cream flavor/etc. is ___." *cheering from people who like same* Sometimes when the person is about to leave some random group of guys will yell "What's your number???" My band is silly.

Wow! With that many kids in pit, why not just have some of them on cymbal line? A couple of years ago I would've killed for enough percussionists to have a full cymbal line (we didn't, so the pit had to play cymbals at pep rallies and for stand tunes ).

It's a ninja. Why did I bother to read this entire thread before posting in it?

Why I am a Cavaliers fan: When I was a sophomore, my lessons teacher let me borrow his tape of the 2001 World Championships. During the Cavalier's show, the camera focuses on the pit for a moment and all of the board players had the exact same mallet height. After witnessing such pit perfection, how could I not love them? It may not have been my first exposure to drum corps (band director showed a couple of tapes before holiday break), but it's still one of my most memorable.

Let's see what I can remember without my notes (yes, I took notes during the performances, I'm that much of a band nerd ). The Blue Knight's show intrigued me because it was so pit-heavy. The program said that their show was based on a piano concerto and the pit acts as the piano, but seeing and hearing them made it really come alive. It's a different way of incorporating the pit, and I liked seeing a change from the usual. While I have nothing against the Cadets, I just thought their show was way too busy. How can I observe the pit's technique when there's guard girls jumping off of tables?? Santa Clara Vanguard failed to disappoint . Having seen their show in Houston already, I was better able to appreciate their visual themes and still enjoy the music. I will admit that I am biased when it comes to the Blue Devils, so I was more critical of their show. The thing that bugged me most was the lack of dynamic variation in the pit; they were either loud or not loud with not much in between. Also, I thought the marimbas tended to dominate the sound. The Cavaliers ROCK MY SOCKS OFF!! Everything about their show expressed their theme so well, even just coming onto the field and the stuff between movements. And though I will love the Cavies until the day I die, I was shocked and awed by the Bluecoats. It seemed like every time I looked at the pit they were playing another lightning-fast run, and is has firmly cemented my fandom of the Bluecoats. And getting to "bloo" for the first time was fun.

Does anyone know if this will be open to the general public? I've tried to find out on the website, but it sounds like you have to be a registered participant or something of the like.
