  1. Who's the best rhymer of them all? I wonder what the mirror will say...
  2. I remember the snow of Christmas Eve '04... it was only a sprinkling where I live (there was more snow further south; how weird is that??), but it was the closest I've ever been to a White Christmas. As for now, I get to look forward to walking to my classes in icy rain. Snow, I like, but not icy rain.
  3. Yes, Monograph IV is long AND hard... I played it my senior year at the behest of my lessons teacher and I swear it almost killed me. But it was such a good feeling when I got something right, so it was worth most of the stress in the end. So, good luck with that!
  4. You're gonna make me rhyme with "football"?? Nevertheless, I hope the Cowboys win that game,
  5. I'm a psychology major at UT Austin. Although I planned to continue doing music in college, I found out the hard way that getting in a music class when you're not a music student can be more difficult than one would expect. I didn't join the marching band because they didn't have a pit and there was no way I'd play a battery instrument. Instead, I was going to take a private lessons class and then try out for the concert band in the spring. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into the lessons class, and now I can't try out for the concert band because I can't practice (only people currently in a music class can use the practice rooms). There is a bright side: I recently found out about a local percussion group and have been going to their camps, so I still get to play music after all! (Even though they keep putting me on bass drum because I'm the only pit person there .)
  6. Sophomore year: at the beginning of the show one of the DMs is conducting backfield, but at one halftime he got off from the head DM, throwing the whole band off. And the first halftime show my junior year... not fun. Half the pit was off for about half of the show, despite my efforts to keep everyone on the same tempo. Afterwards everyone was upset, the pit instructor was definitely not happy, and I felt like I had failed as a section leader.
  7. You know what would be cool? 12 basses, each tuned so that in sequence they would play a full chromatic scale!
  8. Considering I love Firebird Suite in every shape and form, I wouldn't be surprised if, by the end of the summer, I add Phantom to my list of favorite corps.
  9. The Dallas Cowboys winning on Thursday made me happy. UT losing to A&M made me very, very sad.
  10. My favorites were (and still are) marimba and vibes.
  11. I'm a die-hard Cavies fangirl . I also consider SCV and the Bluecoats to be favorites of mine.
  12. "My Humps" Last year on a school trip to Chicago one of my roommates would play that song ALL the time... now whenever I hear it reminds me of all the fun/crazy memories from that trip.
  13. Me included. In fact, a while ago I saw this clip from the Cavies' 2003 show where one of the marimbists played this GORGEOUS 4-mallet solo, and the only thought going through my head was "OMG I'M IN LOVE!" That's when I realized what a corps **** I truly am.
  14. More than ever do I wish to be able to participate in UT's music program. (All their ensembles require an audition and therefore practice, but I can't use to practice rooms because I'm not currently in a music class. )
  15. March/play another ww instrument, march/faux-play ww instrument, drum major, pit, or cymbal line (back when we had one).
  16. Yeah, that really wasn't a good feeling. But look at the progress Creek has made: 2nd division at region two years ago and this year two places away from finals! And good luck to those bands who will be representing Area E at state!
  17. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I saw Sealy at the Region 27 competition, so wouldn't that put them in Area E? Or is there more than one Sealy?
  18. I wish I knew more about these bands so that I could make valid predictions, but I hope that Cy-Creek at least makes it to finals, for obvious reasons (points at signature).
  19. I am an alumna of Cypress Creek H.S. in Houston, Texas and am now at the University of Texas in Austin, which has no pit in their marching band. This makes me a bandless band nerd.
  20. We didn't have a "drum room," persay, but we did have a room for the pit and large concert band instruments, informally known as the pit room. It's fairly squareish and I was always super-picky about all the instruments being put up in the right places, to the point where I probably knew the layout better than the band directors. The battery used to have to put their instruments at the back of the band hall, but when the orchestra got a new classroom the band got the old orchestra room, which is where the battery stuff and drum/stand cases are kept. Other percussion paraphenalia are kept in the percussion director's office.
  21. Pretty much anything from the Killers' newest album. They're my favorite band in the world! Well, favorite non-marching band.
  22. Yeah, that's what I meant. I'm not that familiar with the BOA terms and got them mixed up. Thank you.
  23. Would anyone happen to know the results for the 4A bands?
  24. Sorry I didn't make that more clear. What I meant was that since Creek hasn't always done well (we have our ups and downs from year to year) it was a pleasant surprise to see them scoring above a BOA contender. So I guess that's closest to the last one; excited to finally beat them.
  25. All I know is that Brenham got Outstanding Percussion. In other news, when it comes to finding info. on marching contests, Google fails.
