Area Predictions?
borchnork replied to drumajorfernando's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
All I know from Area A is Fossil Ridge, and I firmly believe they've got it pretty much set. -
4A Rankings after this past weekend

I agree. It's not fun. =[ I think the fourth mvmt for us is now to a level where it's acceptable for performance. It's not quite at the level that would be shocking yet, but I think by area it'll be there. -

I don't know, but I hate the fact that it's solid concrete underneath the turf at PHP. It hurts to march on... -
4A UIL state

yah, it just wasn't successful. I think that's one of the factors that led to us eliminating it this year. -
Centennial Marching Festival

that's what I heard. Pizza hut park... *my mom's on the board that's coordinating the contest* What we would hafta do w/ memorial was have the bands that performed earlier sit on the visitors side of Memorial, and they wouldn't be allowed to sit in the home section. So PHP seems like the best option. but I hear there's quite a bit of conflict... -

I believe it is as well. We tried to do something like that last year where we had a woodwind class and brass class during marching season, but I think it caused more trouble than it was intended to. Ben, I love the pun. =] -

I heard a rumor that they may hafta change the location because Memorial Stadium was not big enough to hold everybody. crazy! -

I don't feel like Boyd has quite what it takes yet. I favor North out of all the Mckinney schools. Plus, Southwest has a very high chance as well. Remember that out of Area B Centennial and Southwest were the ones who placed highest in Honor Band recordings, so I think when it comes to music scores, those two will be on top. -

Yah, it's scary. I'm sure you guys will pull it together. And plus, it's only supposed to rain in the morning tomorrow! -
hahah. Sad but true that our society has people that feel like stealing is the only way to get what they want. The good solution to the problem: Get a job, save money, buy wanted object...

Sherman: Unknown... but to beat Poteet they must have SOMETHING going on there! Aledo: VERY GE oriented. Marching is executed EXTREMELY well. Music is a little lacking. Colony: Unknown, but they beat Aledo at the first competition... Centennial: Pretty good right now. The show is made to highly appeal to UIL judges and scoring. I think now that we're fixing our musicianship on the field and modifying a lot of the show (AND PUTTING THE CLOSER OUT FINALLY!!!) it'll be very excellent. Birdville: Honestly, I haven't seen them in three weeks so any comments I have would be pointless. They had a lot of drill issues when I saw them, and (like I've said before) I think playing Percy Grainger music for their show is highly highly risky. But it's been three weeks, so I'm sure all the little things are worked out. -

our band director controls the weather. I firmly believe this, even though it sounds like some sort of freak theory. it stopped raining for our practice today, even though it was cloudy and scary. And I think if I can hear correctly, it JUST started raining now! 45 minutes AFTER practice ends. While this may seem like just a coincidence, IT'S HAPPENED EVERY SINGLE DAY IT'S RAINED!!! (with the exception of 2 days, but I think he wanted it to rain to give us a break. =] ) -
wow. nice!

thank you for saying that. If we make state, I want to see and compete against Connally! you guys are more than capable of doing it -

wow, Conally's placement is shocking to me. I know that some of the kids from the school have been saying they don't expect to make state, and I was kinda ignoring it for a while, but after that... scary. -

I agree w/ David about Waxahachie. I was really stunned to beat them. Not that we were bad, but that they were just SO good and spot on. I think that we can do well at Area B now with all the edits we made to our show this weekend. Now we have a "drum break" (all we did was just removed the winds from their parts for about 4-5 sets and just kept the percussion playing, the audience bought it though and thought it was a real drum break) and during this break we're actually adding visuals! SCORE! and if we can get the 2nd mvmt. sounding like it did during warm-up I'm sure that our music scores will sky rocket. -
I"m not a percussionist, but for a long time I practiced w/ incorrect hand position and it caused me to get really bad tendinitis. I was actually supposed to stop playing for like a month, and I didn't. oops.

wow. then what can an extra 70 thousand dollars buY???
